Machine Head Announce Lack Of US Headline Shows For ‘The Blackening’

machineheadtheblackening_901Phil Demmel speaks on grumbles that the US haven’t had a headline run on ‘The Blackening’ tour. Get news of Machine Head’s forthcoming UK headlining tour!

Phil Demmel has posted the following on Machine Head’s official message board:”‘Blackening’ Europe U.K. shows: 117; ‘Blackening’ U.S./Canada shows: 155.

“I was wondering which support slot we should’ve turned down to go out and headline? Lamb Of God? Heaven & Hell? Hellyeah? The Mayhem fest? Metallica? Slayer/Megadeth?

“Any suggestions?

“We tried putting something together (around the time of the Hellyeah tour) but could find NO bands to take out. (The Hellyeah tour) was amazing for us in reaching new markets and fans and set us up for returning and headlining.

“Timing is a huge factor in picking tours. I feel bad for the U.S. but everything we’re doing is setting up what comes next. We ONLY headlined up until this record and when it came out the biggest names in metal wanted us out with them. FINALLY. If we don’t take support slots we’re confining ourselves to playing the SAME clubs and theatres forever.

“Yeah, the setlist was pretty similar for a lot of the runs in the U.S. We had to put together songs that would be best for people who’d never seen us before. We’ve been better and cognizant about mixing it up this past year. That will continue.

“I understand the frustration. We haven’t ‘forgotten’ about North America. We’ve just been made offers that we (or ANY metal band) couldn’t/wouldn’t refuse. Europe/U.K. is simply more crazy for this band. In a sense, the U.S. has been the priority, raising our profile and reaching new fans via support slots was the vehicle to do this.

“We’ve been killing ourselves (almost literally) out on the road just so we can still be a band. Things are done for a reason. We’ve always been one of the most fan-friendliest metal bands out there and always will be.”

The last three gigs I have been to where MfH were not headlining I went simply because they were THERE. I went to sonisphere because MfH were there (at last- I knew you wouldn’t let us down) Utmost respect for touring for so long- see you in February!!!!

kingOli

I love the way we (the UK) are separate to Europe!
Cannot wait til Feb!

Good words, GREAT BAND!

Hope to see you guys in Feb.

Don’t ask me where I found this, but here’s a link for the Brixton gig where you can order them on presale (ie. before 0900 2/9/09): http://tinyurl.com/lweh9u

Don’t say I’m not good to you!!

As long as I can see MH and Hatebreed fucking tear the Birmingham Academy a new asshole, I’m fine with it

I understand the frustration but people should still be grateful that they’ve had the opportunity to see MFH. The only time I’ve seen them was in support of Slipknot, I went mainly for them and I have to say they made Slipknot look boooooooring!

T-Rocket

New album please!

Sonisphere was great the Black Crusade too,the Metallica gigs at O2 the sound just seemed off for MH i don’t know why that was

Metalbeast

Machine ‘f*****g’ Head headlining the UK….oh yeah!!

Stop getting news from the Frontlines Message Board.

Why do I get the feeling that, because The Blackening was such a spectacular album, that Machine Head are afraid to enter the studio in fear of never being able to create another album as good, and so are touring and touring to put off going in?

Nothing against them, don’t get me wrong, but they’ll have been on the road in support of the album for about 3 years by the time February comes round…

Nick89 you are so right about that gig and Slipknot had 2x as many people onstage. Got my tix thanks to certain mobile phone company and in the same week as Lamb of oh my fucking god……….

mh were awsome but better than slipknot i dont think so… they destroyed cardiff when they played!
