Machine Head Pull Out Of Sonisphere
Machine Head have released the following statement…
“It is with the utmost disappointment that we must announce that Machine Head will not be playing the Sonisphere date at Knebworth in the U.K. on August 2.
“In a turn of events that has left us absolutely baffled, the promoter of the U.K. Sonisphere festival recently placed, unbeknownst to us, Limp Bizkit in our third slot on the festival. Seeing as the running order was a significant part of the negotiation and agreement between us and the promoter, and the fact that we had been advertised in that slot since the festival’s announcement, you can imagine our surprise when we were ‘told’ that we would now be playing in the fourth slot, under Limp Bizkit, and bizarrely, it was actually expected that we would quietly move down the bill without issue. We will not.
“Machine Head turned down the U.K.’s Download festival, a festival we are very fond of — which, incidentally, had us above Limp Bizkit — to commit to the Knebworth festival, as we felt a closer kinship to the bands performing this year. In an effort to make this situation in Knebworth work, we have spent more than a week striving to resolve this issue in a proper manner. Unfortunately, that did not happen.
“So we have regrettably been left with no choice but to cancel our appearance rather than stand for the disrespect and indignity offered by a promoter who won’t honor our agreement. While we know that our fans will be furious about this situation — as are we, beyond words — we trust that you will all understand our position, and we encourage you to voice your opinion about it as loud and clear as possible.
“The rest of our festival dates across Europe, including the other Sonisphere dates, as well as our headline of the Wacken festival remain unchanged.”

Yeah, I’m still dead happy LB are playing. I’ve seen MH about 6 or 7 times over the last couple of years and they’ve got progressively worse each time. Frankly, if they’re happy to let all of their fans down like this, then they’ve dropped even further in my estimation.

This is not LB’s fault, they were put in that slot clearly because of their immense come back at Download festival. Machine Head are clearly being pre-madonnas about this whole situation, any band, if they enjoyed playing, wouldn’t care where they were on a slot. Yes it would be a punch in the face, but rather than pull out of the festival they should have focused on upstaging Limp Bizkit and entertaining their fans. Bullshit. Really? Higher Billing on the Second Stage? Still hhit compared to Third on First Stage. Hate to say Limp Bizkit do not deserve third Billing for any reason, even after there supposed ‘Brilliant’ display at Sonisphere. They lack any good songs whatsoever, and they also act like dickheads. so yeah, even though I don’t particularly like Machine Head, but good on them for standing up for their beliefs! A band who have done something current deserves a higher billing than a band who turn up again after doing nothing for 5 years and demand the world back, for doing NOTHING BUT TURN UP AGAIN LIKE THEY’RE DOING EVERYONE ELSE A FAVOUR!

what a fucking shame! although they were offered more money and a higher place on the bill (granted on the other stage) and even a longer set, fair enough they’re sticking to their guns but if they had a bit more respect for the fans, they would play anyway! I think its time they had a rest anyway and come back in a year or so with another kick ass album!

IMO i’m disappointed at MH… they could have still played regardless. Christ Motley Crue at download were not on the main stage. They didn’t give a toss!!

Machine Head are one of the best metal bands around, The Blackening is one of my all time favourites and theyve been knocked for a shit nu metal band who everyone hated until they were announced for Download! Yes its funny to sing along to ‘Rollin’, but has everyone forgotten that that song is TOTAL CRAP????
This was obviously coming. There’s so many huge names on the bill that somebody was bound to get upset, given the way the festival is set up.
I’m with Machine Head on this one. As a fan I’d be really pissed if I was going to this fest and suddenly MH are either going to get less time on stage due to Limp Bizkit’s late inclusion.
That they were blackmailed into taking more money to stay on the line-up doesn’t cut it. Money isn’t all that important and Machine Head had the chance to play a potentially defining set, only to be usurped by what I can only currently describe as the flavour of the week.
If you want a scapegoat, blame Galbraith – under him, Download progressively got worse – doesn’t take a genius to figure out that since he went, Download improved – and its quite clear he doesn’t know the meaning of honouring the contract of one of the bigger and better bands on the line-up.
I feel really sorry for the Machine Head fans who were going to Sonisphere mainly for MH – but at the end of the day, don’t blame them for the organisers’ lack of respect, in this instance. Machine Head have left much more of the mark on the hard rock/metal community than Limp Bizkit have on sales of red caps. You only wish they’d have actually realised that, instead of messing them about.

I agree with Nick – Limp Bizkit were the target of many nu-metal jokes and generally despised until the novelty of seeing them at Download was announced. I’m not sure that Fred Durst is aware of the sense of irony we Brits have – we’re laughing at you! Anyway, all props to Machine Head for sticking to their principals. Gutted if you were going there to see them, but I think it’s fair to say they’ve earned their respect and they shouldn’t throw it all way so the organisers can promote Mr.Durst, Mr.’I'll never play with Limp Bizkit again’ Borland and their comedy ‘band’.

After several albums where they promise a return to form and don’t deliver, their music is now lame e.g. ‘Halo’ compare it to the energy of ‘Davidian’ or ‘Old’ etc and they’ve lost it. No loss to Sonisphere. Get Exodus in instead if you want some hi-energy moshpit asskicking music.

I went to Download, and also have tickets for Sonisphere-I was REALLY looking forward to seeing Machinehead,and am SO pissed off about this!Do they realise that single mothers, like myself, have spent a fortune on tickets, to see one of their favourite bands (Machinehead)only to be told that they are not playing anymore?!!!Do Machinehead even care about their fans?Because if they did,then their fans, who spent money on tickets to see them,would/should have been first on their mind.After all, the members of Machinehead would have NOTHING without their fans!!!!Im not blowing the situation up, but it would be honest of me to say that I only bought the Sonisphere tickets to see Machinehead.I also bought my Download ticket in January,a long time b4 the full line-up was out-I prayed that they would be announced,but weren’t.Fair dues-Download can be let slide-I took the gamble, but NOT Sonisphere….No Way!
