Marilyn Manson On UK Tour: “We’re Playing A Lot Of Different Songs This Time”

manson90Metal Hammer spoke to Marilyn Manson about his upcoming UK tour dates to get a taste of what we can expect…

How have the shows been going so far?
“This tour has been going great. A lot of things needed to take place in my head, mentally, just really regaining the whole rock’n’roll lifestyle, taking it back. At the moment I think we’re in a great swing so by the time we get to you it’ll be full blown.”

“We’ve been playing a lot of different songs from a lot of different eras. Tracks off ‘Antichrist Superstar’ and ‘Holywood’ like ‘Coma Black’ and ‘Coma White’. There’s some new stuff off the new record we might do like ‘Running To The Edge Of The World’ – the video we did for that caused quite a stir [watch the 'Running To The Edge Of The World' video here]. We’ve started doing ‘Dried Up, Tied Up And Dead To The World’ again, and I get to play guitar on – and I’ve just got to the point where I can play it better than I ever have before. Right now my favourite song to sing live is ‘Devour’.

The UK dates are as follows:
December 9 – O2 Academy Brixton London
December 10 – O2 Academy Brixton London
December 13 – O2 Academy Birmingham Birmingham
December 14 – Academy Manchester
December 15 – O2 Academy Glasgow Glasgow
December 17 – Trent FM Arena Nottingham Nottingham

Marilyn Manson has also been using a pair of laser gloves at the recent gigs.
“I’ve always liked taking pictures and making film clips of things like that, so when I finished recording the album it was something that I’d picked up and wearing around the house – I have smoke machines in my house – and I just think it really remind me of all the times when I used to get laser pointers pointed at me and think ‘I’m gonna be killed’.”

Maybe he’ll try playing some good songs this time, just for a change . . . .

I think he will play some of the older stuff. I think he knows he didn’t give his all at Download and will make it up. Hopefully, the theatrics will be in full effect too.

I never pay attention to the reviews of him at festivals… he has never really given his all at a festival.

I seen him back in 2007 on his own tour and I’ve got to say he was deff on his game, looked really into it and didn’t really mess up any of the songs…. I’m hoping it will be the same on this tour…. seen as the venues are smaller, he will have to step up to the plate. would be awesome if he revisits holywood… expecially if he plays the death song.

Let’s hope for some Portrait stuff. Dogma, Get Your Gunn, Dope Hat… That would be awesome! Also, I remember back in 2001 seeing Angel With Scabbed Wings live- would love to see that live again.

no chance, go to setlist fm and see the shows he has just 15/16 songs a night for a £30 ticket? and to many songs off the new album on each nights setlist.

sweet got tickets to see him in glasgow it’ll be awesome hes got back on the game since download and will be awesome to see again i wanna see him do a few from golden age of grotesque as well also he should definatly do lunchbox

I wish he would’ve done a better show when I last saw him. Play “Angel With the Scabbed Wings”! That songs a damn classic!
Personally…I think his last two albums were atrocious. I believe he lost his edge once he “retired” after the “Golden Age of Grotesque” era. He keeps saying “We’re regaining it back. We’re regaining it back.” Jesus Christ, Manson! How long is it gonna take you to have a set of balls again? Haha! Sorry guys…But I think Manson should just call it a day and really retire.

it’s so easy to say his latest stuff aint what it used to be…take eat me drink me…..love is a car crash and putting holes in happiness are fantastic tracks and the latest record has devour and we’re from america PLUS i reckon….like they do in the movies is one of his best tracks ever!!!
of course he doesn’t have the same mojo as when he wrote tourniquet, lunchbox etc but he’s still flying the flag!
