The latest issue of Metal Hammer contains one of the most revealing Mastodon interviews ever recorded. Come on in for a slice.

Following the release of their awe-inspiring new album ‘Crack the Skye’, Mastodon grace the cover of the latest issue of metal hammer (in stores now). It also contains one of the most eye-opening interviews ever conducted with the band.

Just one portion of the interview sees drummer Brann Dailor discussing the album’s title, which is connected to his sister’s suicide.

“My sister Skye’s suicide is something I’ve been dealing with for 20 years,” says Dailor. “I wanted to lift her up and put her name out there forever. It was the most deeply emotional moment of my life, and always with suicide there’s a lot of guilt that comes with it.”

“The whole story is my metaphor for if I’d been able to come in and pick her up and save her from that situation, so yeah it’s a sad thing but I don’t want it to be this pity party for me. Everybody experiences loss. At some point in your life you will lose someone near and dear to you and I’m lucky enough to have some kind of artistic platform to immortalise it, to have some kind of tribute. We owe it as artists to come from the deepest place possible; that’s art.”

little that i know that he (Dailor) had a sad and tragic loss of his sister; i had a similar loss but it’s a natural death Lily, Steven, and Proof of D12 your spirit will go on!

Cool should be good ,ill have to go grab it .
And any band who can have two albums in a row called “Album of the decade ” is good by me lol

Matt Wuyts (a.k.a. Moosh)

I don’t really like Mastodon but I like the sound of this album. The man has every right to dedicate this album to his sister because of her suicide and he’s right, everyone experiences loosing a loved one and have different ways of dealing with it…this is his way.
