Metallica Announced For European Sonisphere Festivals
Three of the big four sign up for the first Sonisphere festival to be announced.
Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Mastodon are the first bands to be announced for Sonisphere in Poland and it’s been revealed that Metallica will again be headlining Sonisphere dates around Europe.
A statement from Metallica reads: We are now entering the June portion of the “random tour announcement” derby and today’s installment is one that is particularly exciting for us as we are proud to tell you that we will again be headlining the Sonisphere Festival, now embarking upon its second year in existence.
The first show of the traveling festival will be on June 16 at Bemowo Airport in Warsaw, Poland and joining us are some longtime friends . . . Slayer, Anthrax, and Mastodon!
Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Thursday, December 10. Go to www.sonsipherefestivals.com and choose the country you are interested in for more info on how to purchase tickets. All shows are general admission.
Additional Sonisphere shows will be announced in the next week, and in the meantime you may even want to consider checking back here in a few hours for some more tour updates both in Europe and Latin America (hint, hint).

Can someone explain the point of having the same bands at the same festival two years in a row? Megadeth will play Download now, just for the fk of it.
Metallica will prob be only playing the gigs they did’nt headline last year.
would be ace to have metallica and maiden at sonisphere even tho a different headliner than metallica would be good rumors are that it will be maiden and kiss
There wasn’t a Sonisphere Poland last year so I’m guessing they’re just giving (at least some) of what was missed. How many times have Metallica played Poland anyway? I don’t know but wouldn’t think it’s a huge number.

Bee_Gee. Metallica were really influential in founding Sonisphere. It’s seen as their festival. Rumour has it that they have signed up for 5 years. It’s like Family Values always has Korn, Project Revolution always has Linkin Park.

Metallica will not be playing at Knebworth…Maiden and Rammstein will be as shown on the Poland sight…in polish haha. The added dates this year are what Metallica will be playing, they wont be repeating any places they played last year….they are still heavily rumoured to play download on the Friday.
And Andy Copping has said do not worry about Sonisphere, what he has is MASSIVE and will blow us out of the water, AC/DC is the only band i can think of who would do this

As much as I love Metallica, and as much as I loved seeing them at this year’s fest, I wouldn’t want them two years in a row. I would end up watching them wondering why it’s not someone else.
Slayer and Anthrax though? I’d take them any day. Anthrax at Sonisphere was the best gig I ever went to.

I think what he was getting at is that the Knebworth Sonisphere line-up was on the Polish website (in polish) before it was announced on the UK website.
