eminem what does there??….shit

James Balcombe

I assume these lists were done with tongue firmly in cheek.
Always nice to see they have a sense of humour.

Unless they were serious, in which case, what th…?

thats quite diverse

wow i thought they had a little better taste
this is bogus and maybe fake

Snakepit

No this is not aloud!
I only want them boys listening to NWOBHM and black sabbath. Whos been letting them listen to U2?

prtylvr

think lars might have a thing for the artic monkeys and their side projects

falthrop

Yet more proof that Metallica is shit.

Ian McWilliams

The Blackening is a better album than all those in their, Lars likes Chinese Democracy, ewwww.

ashley Leiper

i love how all the non-underground people in the metal world that do these lists have really diverse choices, and most the fans hate/can’t face it

What the fuck is Eminem doing there?

dickmouth

lars’ grip on relevance is dwindling by the second. Fuckin audioslave?

kirk’s list is mostly solid. radiohead and sigur ros i wouldn’t have expected. Placing ‘because i got high’ so high up is funny enough that i’ll ignore how stupid it is.

Divided

Nice well rounded selection there which you would expect from grown men rather than the “I only listen to metal and nothing else” children that always clog up the internet. It’s ok to like and appreciate music other than metal you know! People won’t think you’re any more of a moron than they already do

I love how “Because i got high” is like number four on Kirks list!

Respect

Gavinge

It’s funny how both their list just contain the same albums, in practically the same order as the Rolling Stone list…

theoutlawtorn

A very diverse list there indeed.

stevev666

I’m all for diversity and if they only had Metal then it wouldn’t be diverse. But don’t forget this was published in Rolling Stone * not a Metal magazine read by non-Metalheads generally speaking. Metallica seemed to be viewed as the flag bearers of Metal and this is a chance to take Metal to the people, I mean no Blackening Lars? No Wrath? They’ve taken em out on tour! I understand if they put 50 Metal albums and songs on there then people won’t take them seriously, but just remember your roots Metallica yeah? Come Sonisphere in Knebworth this year!

Green Day?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Signalkyle

How narrow minded are most of you to think that Metallica only listen to old school thrash or? if you’d even listened to Load or Reload by them, you’d know how diverse their musical influences are. At least they were being honest about what they like and not hiding behind the macho facade that half you ‘24/7 metal til i die’ idiots act out.

Good to see that bands don’t just listen to the same old shit day in, day out IMO. they have some good bands/artists on the list.

noobpotato

Lmao love to hammet because of his because i got high mention.

PureSincerity

@falthrop

+1 my friend.

of course theres nothing wrong with diversity, i like a bit of everything.

oh and Metallica had destroyed their roots and legacy long before this list came out.

krusi10

SIGUR RÓS???????WTF????!!!!

there are some shocking choices in there lol. Still, their musical tastes didn’t stop Death Magnetic from being a good album, so doesn’t really matter

Moshtank

WOOP! kirk hammet likes muse im not the only metalhead who likes em!
odd choices
then again lars and kirk arnt exactly…normal… lol

Wow, this site is full of fucktards. I’m so sorry that Metallica’s favourite songs aren’t ‘metuhlz’ enough for you lot. Be open minded.

Arctic Monkeys and Oasis are fucking shite……..

slayerlover

this is just further proof that metallica are past their sell-by-date,

Eminem???? What the FUCK

Nearly every comment slagging the list must have been written by 13 year olds. Even around the times of Load Lars and Kirk were praising Oasis, Radiohead and hippity hop. Grow up people!!!

I, for one, think Eminem, Radiohead & U2 are great and the songs Lars & Kirk picked are fantastic. The Eminem Show… a complete classic. Better than some of the metal they chose (LOG, Slipknot). Would have been nice to see some Iron Maiden, though…
Oh well, good lists anyway, as funny as the thought of Lars listening to Pink is.

I think thats awesome. Why shouldn’t they listen to U2 etc? Not my cup of tea, but then again I’m not a middle aged man, and a father (I’m a 16 year old girl. Ahem) They’re big, grown up men now, they can choose what music they want to listen to :)

Nice to see theres a bit of Machine Head in there, as well as Mastodon, Alice in Chains, Slipknot and Motorhead. But yeah, who really gives a shit about what they like to listen to? You don’t know them in person, so why do you care? You’re not really going to stop liking Metallica because Lars likes Oasis. If you really are that close minded, then you’re a bit of a cunt really, aren’t you?

someone

where is megadeth- endgame?

Wow, Kirk’s taste is actually awesome. Radiohead, The Mars Volta and Sigur Ros in the top three = infinite win.

Lars on the other hand…

the only thing i found worthy in these shitty list was motorhead’s inferno!! green day, afroman!?? there we go!!metallica sold out again!! poor james hes the only worthy motrfukr in tallica aftr cliff passed away

are they taking the piss?

twats……n no wonder their shit now if thats the crap they listen 2

I think its awsome that they have different influences.
besides its albums and songs from this decade
there is no “old school trash” from d 21 century.

I still hate U2

I’m actually glad they list talented bands like Audioslave, U2, etc. that aren’t metal, because it’s nice to see some diversity.

However, I am disappointed to see no prog/thrash metal on there… :(

This is why Lars, Inc. (a.k.a Metallica) are not a metal band anymore. After the first 4 classic thrash metal albums they went to shit. The Black album turned them into a stadium rock band and the downward spiral began. That’s why with Death Magnetic they had to pull the hand break up and go back into the 80’s. Also, alot of stalwart fans were nearly jumping ship if DM was in the same vein as the previous 4 had been. Still going to see them in BELFAST and it will be to hear the old stuff, when they were a METAL band.

Why would you slag the shit outta Metallica and then finish by saying you’re gonna see them live?? Goes to show the hypocrisy of people in this world!

Muse, Kings of Leon, Wolfmother…What is wrong with these two? Much like the current state of Metallica, this has got to be a joke!!!

I was glad to see Radiohead, The Mars Volta, Mastodon, System of a Down, Muse, and Tool on there.

Laimonas

I love metallica , but what the hell? Kirk listens to some prog n stuff, but LARS jesus , nowonder he’s such a pussy… Its hard to believe that they’re listening to such crap.

Crippler

I love metallica and there are some great albums which are not metal there, but is obvious this is not the list of a metalhead.
I don´t have any problems with the musical taste of anybody, you can´t judge the tastes of anybody that would be completely narrow minded, but now is a fact that they´re not metalheads anymore.

ForTodayFTW

Well i’d like to say…there both wrong..neither of them have mentioned ARCHITECTS…WTF!!!!,
clearly Hollow Crown is the best metal album of this year?? maybe not the decade but its definately top 10….FUCKERS!

theres SOME good stuff on there, and i believe everyone is alowed freedom to choose what music they like… but what the fuck is with this list? theres some awsome metal in there, but amy winehouse? eminem? arctic monkeys? come on! thats bullshit

Fucking Hell, some of you are total fucking tards. first off, its nice having a bit of diversity in there :) and or gods sake’s metallica have always been a metal band, although load and reload had a rock ” vibe” to them. St.Anger was metal and death magnetic is metal, and to that dude who said he’s going to see tallica for their old stuff? try the new stuff you fucking moron, or how about actually not going? you fuck /rant

I am really shocked of the songs and albums they choosed, although I cant say anything to Lars or to Kirk, I think that they could made better choices.

the fonz

surely its up to lars and kirk what they like, just because they dont listen to YOUR music taste, doesnt mean their opinion is invalid or rubbish.

its good to have variety in your music taste, its pretty ignorant not too.
the guys in metallica are in their 40s, of course their going to like other stuff too.

so what if Kirk likes Sigur Ros, have most the people slating them here even listened to it?! its actualy great chill out/ relaxing music if your open minded and remember metal isnt the one and ONLY genre on the planet.

not all good music is metal, but as ever people here dnt like it coz its not THRASH or DEATH or THE METALLLZZZ,

some people on this site are complete idiots.
ignorant FUCKS.

ps. good to see some love for queens of the stone ages’ rated r. classic album that.

Why are people shocked?! Just because they make “heavy music” doesn’t mean they don’t or can’t listen to other types of music.

That’s pretty stupid, really, to only listen to one genre of music.

You get influenced by many things in life..dare I say rap music too (er..?). Classical music for, example influenced many “mealheads” and it sounds nothing like the music they create. Reggae too is very influential.

Now all the ‘tallica fans will weep because their gods listens to Eminem. And the haters will use this to prove (??!) that the Metallica guys “are shit”. Grow up.

Live with an open mind, fuckers!

It’s ‘Now You’ve Got Something to Die For’, not ‘Now You Have Something to Die For’.

MotleyCruel

RS Article looks ghostwritten to me

Thrash Mosher

Well in their defence, they’re getting old, and perhaps a bit senile.

well well well surprise surprise no megadeth on their lists…in that case im not surprised!!!

Unabletothinkofname

ARGH. FUCKING ULRICH. D:
I kid, I like a huge variety of music, and it’s good to see the bands do as well. Though, Crack The Skye’s on there, all good.

OH FOR FUCKS SAKE STFU!!!

This is probably the most diverse and sophisticated list ever written by a metal artist.
Arctic Monkeys? Radiohead? Lamb of God? Amy Weinhouse? The list has everything, therefore this is a quite sophisticated list…minus green day

Those are 2 bloody good lists actually, apart from Kasabian, very diverse. You don’t just have to listen exclusively to metal people, it is okay to listen to other genres.

Yeah KoRn Here To Stay should be the first most important track, it won a Grammy Award for being so good! And why is Untouchables, Take A Look In The Mirror or See You On The Other Side not mentioned here? I love and respect Metallica but cmon :o
