Mike Portnoy To Drum On New Avenged Sevenfold Album
Dream Theater’s drummer extrodinaire will drum on the new album from Avenged Sevenfold.
Orange County metal gods, Avenged Sevenfold, have announced that Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy will drum on the new album from Avenged Sevenfold, following the tragic passing of James ‘The Rev’ Sullivan.
A statement from Avenged Sevenfold reads: “(We) want our fans to know that with Jimmy in our hearts, our journey to record has officially began.
“Jimmy helped leave this world an amazing gift and now it’s our job to make sure to deliver that gift to our fans.
“We asked Jimmy’s all-time favorite drummer Mike Portnoy to record on behalf of him. Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted.
“It’s comforting to us that someone like Mike, who is undoubtedly revered as one of the best drummers in the world, held such respect and adoration for the Rev’s abilities.
“Even though it will never be the same without our brother by our side, his essence lives in our hearts and through the music he helped create. He was a legend before any of the success or any of that bullshit and we are fucking excited to lay this down for our fans, and especially for Jimmy.”

This is amazing. Mike was happy about being able to include blastbeats on the last DT album and was wearing a Lamb of God shirt for some of the interviews so let’s hope the album comes out heavier than the last A7X one

Anyway, I’m liking the look of this. Mike’s a brilliant drummer and I feel with him that A7X will get as close as they possibly could to making a record with Jimmy. Let’s also hope it’s heavier too, that was lacking a bit on the last album.

In all honesty i was expecting that to talk alot longer than it has. i didnt even think they would have a new full time drummer, i expected a list of support drummers, but this is good news
why are avenged sevenfold being put down has gods they’re just an overated band releasing good music. it’s good to see they’re releasing the album and that dream theatres drummers doing it for the rev. hopefully rev will apprciate it and wishes luck for the others. RIP Rev

in the name of dream theater all i gotta say is….im dissapointed. avenged sevenfold are nothing but a piece of shit boy band….mike portnoy can always do better….why not a 3rd liquid tension experiment studio album…..why play complete overated mtv quality shit.

@Ben I think not, A7X are maybe not the heaviest metal/hard rock band out there, but they certainly have some interesting songs, and I think with Mike’s touch the new album will come out sounding great, just hold your tongue until you hear the results boy!

why are people saying its a waste of mikes talent?, the rev was an incredible writer and if mike does what he says he is trying to do and stick to the revs writing this record will be amazing, and as for saying a7x are a boy band, what a joke their not heavy as many other bands but god, they are talented, id like to hear you write anything near as impressive as Avenged Sevenfold then comment on how bad you think they are.

I havent heard any A7X stuff. But the stuff you people have said is very good and bad. Especially the rude comment that that mettal god has said. The rev is dead man. B. Thinks they have better talent than any of their band members, which is impossible unless you are in some other well-known rock band

I always seem to forget to mark my calendar whenever a new A7X album/single comes out. Maybe my deathbat clock will fall on my head to remind me. Either way, I’m glad as an Avenged Sevenfold fan to see them keep fighting on in tough times. Mike Portnoy has great talent, the new album will sound great no matter what direction A7X chooses to go in and hopefully, they will never stop going. There are at a crossroad and I’m sure they will take the right step instead of going “to the watering-hole where they were whiskey drunk” (from the song Crossroads).
