Mike Portnoy Told He Can’t Come Back To Dream Theater
Oh dear, Michael. It would appear as though Mr Portnoy has approached Dream theater about patching up their differences, only to be told that the door is now closed. Get the full amazing statement inside! See Dream Theater at High Voltage festival!
The following post comes from Mike Portnoy himself:
“Fairly recently, I reached out to the guys to try and make amends and offered to reconcile for the sake of having peace back in our lives…(plus I know how much it meant to a lot of the fans…)
“I figured it was still possible to try and save us because they hadn’t made any announcements yet or begun any public activity with another drummer…but sadly, they declined my offer (well, actually their lawyer did…they didn’t even tell me themselves….)
“Sorry gang, I honestly gave it my all…
“So now the fans on my twitter and facebook can please stop asking me to go back to DT…I tried, and the door is now shut…the ball is now in their court, not mine…
“PS – I’m not crying or looking for mercy by posting this…I am merely trying to set the record straight as that is always the most important thing about my relationship with you guys…no BS, no spins, nothing to hide…and for better or for worse, I tell it like it is…
“I’ve also recently seen some people accuse my online activity of ‘looking for attention or media coverage’, or ‘Looking for sympathy’, but it’s honestly none of the above…I merely value having an open and active communication with my fans…always have, always will…it is the cornerstone of everything I’ve done since day #1 with DT…”

More fool Dream Theater. I will miss seeing Mike with them, I hope he finds a good band to play with soon
all well and good not having MP in the band, until they try and play ‘dance of eternity’ live :p
seriously tho, I hope this gets sorted out
makes me think that they must have found a damn good replacement…..
I seriously hope that whatever happens next that MP gets himself sorted with another band – not that he couldn’t as he has Transatlantic among the projects with which he has been involved. However, that may have been part of the problem. I hope DT have made a great choice of drummer – Terry Bozzio is the first drummer I can think of who would give MP a run for his money. I had heard someone suggest Mike Mangini which, whilst he isn’t no slouch as a drummer, stints with Extreme and Megadeth highlight his versatility, perhaps he’d be a safe choice rather than someone able to propel DT further mucically?
I say good job to the rest of Dream Theater, you don’t just leave a band and expect a free pass back in. They’re easily proficient enough, even without Portnoy. While I like Portnoy, this really shows weak will on his part in my opinion.
I don`t know what his thoughts were – that the rest of DT will accept him back after he left them and went to play in A7X?!
P.S. Don`t get me wrong. I think both bands are great.
Lol.
It’s like some crap tv soap storyline.
I don’t think it matters if Mike is in Dream Theater or not. They will continue if they want. And just fyi Mike was NEVER A MEMBER in Avenged Sevenfold just helping a band in their time of need (which he mentioned many times before, just saying for clarification.) I wish Mike and Dream Theater the best.
