Navarro Loves ‘Chinese Democracy’
Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has spoken out in praise of Guns N’ Roses ‘Chinese Democracy’. Someone has to, eh?
Answering a fan’s question about the album on his official website, Navarro has said:
“I have to say that I pretty much love it. The way I have been describing it has been 70% awesome and 30% really weird, but after a few listens the weird becomes awesome again. I don’t know if it’s the songs or the fact that I just enjoy hearing that guy’s voice or both, but I am a fan. It’s not GN’R as we know it. It feels more like an Axl solo record, probably because as music lovers we were able to get a feel for the old GN’R dynamics and the personalities of each member in the band. I know very little about this band so it’s hard to connect with each member sonically like I did before. People have been commenting on how long it took to make, but I kind of don’t believe he was working on all THESE songs the whole time. I’m sure there have been versions, stuff that got scrapped, breaks, lineup changes, personal time. I’m speculating, of course, but having worked on so many projects, I know that there are a million things that go down before you even decide on the track listing.”
Rumours continue to circle that 2009 will see a Jane’s Addiction reunion.

I have to completely agree with Mr. Navarro here, I was the same. I liked quite a lot of the tracks.. which is more than could be said for a lot of stuff this year and it is really weird accepting this as a serious GNR release. It feels like Rose’s own Velvet Revolver. I think, as usual, a lot of us are overreacting because we’re stubborn and don’t like change, especially when we’ve seen this coming for 14 years. It’s about time someone actually backs up this album from an unbiased POV and gives it a proffessional review. And it’d be nice to know that not everyone’s jumping on the hate wagon, it does seem like a lumped together GNR Frankenstein monster, but it’s really not that bad.
i think it`s ok.
not a big GnR fan, but some of the tracks aren`t too bad.
In my opinion. The Dynamics of this album really just lagged through. No real flash without slash. Axl was the only impressive thing about it… but it was just a lump of random Axl tracks in the end. Not a GNR.
I still can’t make my mind up about this album. I’ve listened to it maybe 5 or 6 times, but while nothing makes me hate it, nothing makes me love it either. I think the name of Guns N’ Roses made people expect something it was never going to be.
