Metal Hammer’s Dom Lawson heaped a world of praise onto the album, saying: It’s a sign of the times that the fact that Gama Bomb are giving away their second album for Earache for free has barely caused a ripple of surprise in the metal world, but it’s still a laudable endeavour and one that seems all the more impressive when the quality of the follow-up to 2007’s Citizen Brain is revealed.

For all their goofiness and kitsch imagery, Gama Bomb are a ruthlessly precise and devastating thrash metal band that have taken the best of ‘80s tradition and married it to a very modern sense of sonic muscularity, with vocalist Philly Byrne adding an extra layer of authenticity to the whole enterprise with a voice that owes enough to Bobby Ellsworth and Russ Anderson without drenching everything in nudge-nudge nostalgia.

Most importantly, though, the Belfast band’s third album is full of genuinely great songs. Whether hurtling along, heads down and hot-wired, on Slam Anthem and Mussolini Mosh, or veering off on more straightforwardly metallic tangents on Skeletron, this is a fast, furious and unapologetically entertaining blizzard of plectrum-shredding, high velocity speed metal that fulfils its bright-eyed promise with mischievous intensity. To be fair, they should really charge double for this stuff.
