Newsted Confirms He Will Perform With Metallica
Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has confirmed that he will be performing with the band for the first time in nearly a decade when they are inducted to the Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Fame on April 4th.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Newsted stated: “There’s three bass players getting inducted, and James, Lars and Kirk.”
Newsted went on to revel that it was sticks-man, Lars who made the “very recent” call, saying: “I talked to Lars, and it’s all good – I was happy to hear from him.”
“I hadn’t talked to him for a long time, so it was nice to hear his voice.”
As has been publicised, Dave Mustaine will not be included as he has never played on a Metallica record.
“Its not my decision.” Commented Newsted, “I have nothing to do with that.”
“It was decided by the band, and I think it was just a hard-and-fast rule… anyone who has recorded on any Metallica recordings that have been released to the public as an official release were invited to the induction. So, that’s kind of that.”
Metallica will be inducted into this year’s Hall Of Fame by RHCP bassist Flea. The band have also recently announced a US tour for this fall and have just released a trailer for Guitar Hero: Metallica where you can watch James Hetfield blow up a house.
Sonisphere will be headlined by Metallica and Linkin Park and will take place on August 1st – 2nd at Knebworth. Also on the bill will be Nine Inch Nails, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, Lamb Of God, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Anthrax, Airbourne, Thin Lizzy, Killing Joke and The Sword.

woooo! hope he plays Creeping Death and sings the “DIE” part.
Oh that would be awesome Merk, I love what Rob has brought to the band but there’s elements of Jason that I miss and that’s one of them.
Jason Newsted being the coolest guy ever was the only reason i became a metalhead. The second reason was actually creeping death! Rob is okay but he can never bring what jason brought to a live metallica show!
I was lucky to get backstage passes tickets for the snakepit when the Nowhere Else To Roam tour came to Brisbane, Australia (I was working in a record shop at the time and was the token metalhead in the store). Me and my best mate got to meet James and Jason before the show and get all our stuff signed. James showed us his newly barbequed arm that he got during the tour with GN’R. Jason was incredibly cool and we talked about how much we were looking forward to seeing the Kyuss set (they were the support band). Jason even offered to take my “Blues For The Red Sun” CD to their dressing room to get it signed but I was too embarassed at the thought of the bass player from Metallica running around after me.
Later in the snake pit I got to see right up close the 100% effort and guts that Jason put into his show. He took over the vocals for pretty much the whole of “Whiplash” and it was scary to watch!! This was just after he’d shaved his head and the effect of that along with veins and chords popping out of his neck and his face all screwed up in venom was pretty fuckin’ impressive for a young bastard like myself.
People always go on about how Cliff was the cool one in Metallica but it’s awesome that Jason is going to be given his due props at the RN’R HOF.
come on Jason!!!! im looking forward for this event. it must be very interesting…
I think Rob is a far better bass player,i met Jason once and he wasnt exactly friendly to the people waiting to meet the band
Rob was hilarious on Saturday at the O2. He was wandering around the stage almost with his knuckles dragging. He has brought a sense of humour to Metallica and they don’t seem to take themselves so seriously now. He is a great musician and an absolute fucking character.
rob performs way better sounds better more style jason is good but no way near robert
It’ll be fuckin superb, shame about Mustaine, but rules are rules baby
It’s great to see the rifts sorted at last, i am old enough and fourtunate enough to have seen METALLICA with all 3 bass players being inducted RIP Cliff, thanks to Jason a brilliant and loyal musician to the band, keep the flag flying Rob your doing great job. METALLICA you deserve this ALL past and present players yes even you Mr Mustaine after all some of those songs on kill em all are yours. And a special thankyou to RATPELT UK you know who you are.
