Nonpoint Record ‘5 Minutes Alone’ For Dimebag Tribute. Get It Here!
Florida metallers Nonpoint have recorded a bonus track for Metal Hammer’s Dimebag Tribute Album, free with the next issue – out 16 December. Hear it inside!
Nonpoint have recorded a version of Pantera’s classic ‘5 Minutes Alone’ as an online bonus track for our Dimebag Tribute Album, available with every issue of Metal Hammer (on sale December 16 – next Wednesday).
We asked Zach from Nonpoint to comment on their choice. What does Dimebag mean to you?
“Dimebag was the epitome of a rock star. Charismatic, humble, amazingly talented, good-hearted. There will never be ANYONE like him. He was a true innovator. I grew up watching the Pantera DVDs everyday after school, and I still watch them before almost every show I play to get pumped up. I lived vicariously through someone that enjoyed every second of life, and always made the most out of everyday that he walked this earth. 5 years ago, the world lost a legend, but his spirit, his music, and his everlasting impact that changed heavy music will always live on.”
Why 5 Minutes Alone?
“That has always been my favorite song off of ‘Far Beyond Driven’. I remember when I first heard that heaviness and the crunch in the verse… the endless riffing throughout the song… I was like “HOLY SHIT!” It was so complex, yet so in the pocket. The solo? So memorable by just bending one note back and fourth, the whole song just kicks your ass. Bottom line, it’s badass, it slams, and it’s awesome riff after awesome riff… NONSTOP! It was an honour to be asked to cover a song by such an influential band. This is definitely a highlight of my music career!”
Nonponint’s Elias on why they chose ‘5 Minutes Alone’ and what Dimebag means to him:
“We picked ‘5 Minutes Alone’ because… well first of all I can’t believe no other band picked it but, we did it because its a fucking classic song. The perfect mold of ‘the baddest riff ever’ mixed with ‘you’re seconds away from getting your ass stomped’ lyrics. Dime was everything rock needed to be with a heart the size of Texas. Miss you brotha.”

Ill Niño already did a cover of that song and its…AWESOME! has some really cool latin influence in there
as much as i respect dimebag and pantera and give nonpoint respect for honouring dimebag this cover is fucking awful,
it sounds like a high school band trying a poor attempt of making a rock song,
wheres the heavy vocal?
wheres the crunching riff?
seriously as todd mentioned ill nino did a cover that pisses over this crap,
i just hope the rest of your tribute cd has decent covers and not lame attempts
yea i found that cover pretty weak too.
i bet this version of a new level is better then 5FDP – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5coRmYYAlY&feature=PlayList&p=D97BD9578DB77A74&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=48
hahaha
@Ass4ssin…good find…still shit though haha! Clean vocal cover is interesting…..
nonpoint – not terrible but close; horrible singing at points
ass4ssin’s vid – what the fuck, but kinda cool
that ill nino version is MUCH better
Nonpoint is an awesome band, and the most friendly guys. Their own music is much bettter than the cover though.
Thanks Nonpoint or making Pantera Nu-Metal. This blows plus Nonpoint was so 9 years ago.
Thats a terrible cover and the point what am still scratching my head over is that 5fdp is doing a new leval iwent to the death punch gig in glasgow last month and it was shadows fall who done a new leval live and it was ace and i dont think 5fdp’s version will be to great after their other terrible covers eg From Out Of Nowhere and Bad Company
vocals and guitar tone are way off
Well, I believe a song done as a tribute is NOT supposed to sound exactly like the original. I think Elias did a damn good job for just jumping in like that and Zach was great too.
Nonpoint Rules!
The point of a tribute is to cover the song in your own way. Not do it the same exact way! I would just listen to the actual album if I wanted that. Nonpoint was the shit 9 years ago and they are right now too! But that’s my opinion. Just as those are your opinions.
When I heard Nonpoints Bullet with a name on it, I thought, “Damn, these guys are tight. They sound near to near as PanterA” and I was so eager to listen to their cover song but man Im fuckin disappointed. Its so not-fuckin-heavy. Vocals, Guitars, Drums all suck! haha just heard the solo bit, made me laugh, hahahaa
“I ask you please just stop singing, 5 minutes alone”
“I ask you please just stop singing, I ask you please just stop singing, I ask you please just stop singing, I aask you please just stop singing 5 minutes alone!!!”
Agree with Vannessa, of course each to their own, however unless you are a dedicated cover band, I reckon covers should have your own flare on it, makes it more fun
Actually prefer the cover to the Nonpoint stuff…thanks for putting the Dimebag cd Metal Hammer! Dimebag R.I.P
okay, so just to be clear, nonpoint did that song with 2 days notice, learned it, practiced it once, and recorded it. 2 DAYS!!! it was last minute, and that fact that they joined in on the tribute was becuase they were asked to by chad grey. SO MAD PROPS to nonpoint for recording it and trying to be respectful and not defer at all from the original version to make it they’re own. They only did it because they wanted to pay respect, to someone who was a personal friend of theirs. and mr…”nonpoint was soooo….9 years ago…” umm…okay so 9 years ago was one thing, but the new album, completely produced by chad and greg from mudvayne is going to put them right back on the map. They are shedding the nu metal image they’re previous record label forced them into. So try not to be so judgmental, and appreciate it for what it is, someone paying they’re respects to a fallen hero.
Nonpoint Record ‘5 Minutes Alone’ For Dimebag Tribute. Get It Here! where where where
i’ve followed every fucking link and i can get to their myspace fine but i can’t see where to download the bloody song. i ask you please just give me 5 minutes alone
Where is the Nonpoint download!! I need that 14th track!
WTF is music coming too! I Love Pantera. So Metal Hammer Is Telling Us that a god of a guitarist dies and they want to tribute him, so the best they could give dime in tribute and his fans is KIAUS? Nonpoint? We Deserved Better And So Did Dime. Zakk Wylde Should Have Stepped In being dimes brother and all. I Mean Bullet For My Valentine Does A Bad Ass Cover Of Domination. Where’s That? The Other Cover’s Were not that bad. I Know They Could Have gotten better acts, Trivium, Bullet, Killswitch Engage, Somebody Good!!!
