Machine Head is considered Nu Metal? Didn’t know that.
missing out on ill nino common
I Am Locco fuckin sik as nu metal tune
Good stuff
To Rida, well that certain song or album it was on is considered nu-metal.
Also MH you guys missed out on Saliva.
I wouldn’t consider SoaD’s – Know anywhere close to Nu Metal.
Yeah, The Burning Red was one of the two MFH albums not spoken about in polite company- because they’re nu-metal.
Edgecrusher though? If we’re talking Fear Factory’s nu-metal experiment (why, Dino? WHY?) it’s surely got to be Linchpin.
That songlist basically reads like the compilation tape a mate did for me on a school trip in about 2000. I never let him near my stereo after that. The best nu-metal could come up with, and it’s still half a dozen barely acceptable songs and a load of total tripe. Who on earth thought a revival was a good idea?
WTF? since when have soil ever been nu metal ??
disturbed i can understand but soil?
I think that Down with the Sickness should be their instead of Voices and Taproot Poem intead.
Union Underground – Turn me on Mr Deadman (that’s pretty nu metal)
Was glad to see One Minute Silence in there and Spineshank.
I agree that Saliva are pretty nu metal so should have been mentioned but I think that’s a pretty conclusive nu metal guide, not surprising from MH though!
Wow, SOiL are nu-metal?
May I ask, why?
Ah ok, thanks Liam, yeah I knew there was some backlash about them “selling out” but I never considered it nu metal. Thanks
Adema – The Way You Like It/Freaking Out
Ill Nino – God Save Us
Lostprophets – Shinobi Vs Dragonninja
Mudvayne – Dig
Bloodsimple – Path to Prevail
how bout them??
Ha I was gonna say Ill Nino’s I Am Loco but someone got there already!
Bit of Static X maybe??
MUDVAYNE, FLAW, NONPOINT, KITTIE
Flaw… they were nu metal.
And Chimaira’s first album.
Brings back memories, it wern’t all bad, there is a bit of a grey area about what is considered Nu-Metal and what isn’t, thing is like all ‘cool at the time’ genre’s the small number of bands that were actually good get tarred with the same brush as the totally dreadful ones. Crazy Town anyone? lol
btw I would take Nu-Metal over Emo/Sceno any day, yesterdays baggy jeans are todays fringes…
Fear Factory? Machine Head? Soulfly? really…..Linkin Park is not nu-metal it pop rock. What about Crazy Town, Static X, Dope, or even the Deftones? I would think Counterfit by Limp Bizkit would be on here not Break Stuff.
Some Deftones maybe?
Spineshank?
Five point 0…
Orgy
OPM
Staind
Pitchshifter
to name a few…
Soulfly had a nu metal phase, they had Fred Durst on that specific track.
What’s with this Nu Metal ressurgence??! Damn, it sucks!!
Is it a kind of Campaign for Nu-Metal!? let go of the fuckers! Let’em Rot In their fuckin’ Graves!
How delighted i am that Corey Taylor was reminded that he could actually sing!
Hahaha, a wee bit of nu metal for ye olde time sakes is fun.
Lets hope there isnt a revival though…
Slowly, Download’s lineup is starting to include a large number of these bands, or at least members of these bands… They’ll have to extend the backstage area for all the braids.
The revival of this atrocious genre is already happening. So far it’s been tongue in cheek but I hope they don’t start getting taken seriously again.
Deftones were the best band of the era and no mention of them? My Own Summer anyone? bummer
Snot……Nu-Metal!!!!!! HELL TO THE NO.
Also what about stuff by bands such as:
Cold
Filter
Lost Prophets
Staind
Dry Kill Logic
Nonpoint
and of course forgotten favs from the UK such as:
Number One Son
Onepity
Kilkus
Kill II This
Pulkas
Glad to see that this is a retrospective album proving that nu-metal is at last dead and buried. Nu-metal was a complete embarrassment. Poncy, pretentious bunch of posers. About style over substance. Who could be cooler than anyone else and owed more to hip-hop than metal. Sad thing is, once decent bands such as machine head fell for it and sold out. Now look at them. A mish-mash of not knowing what they are with lame songs that Burn My Eyes pisses all over. Why the hell MH even bothers to cover nu-metal (apart from to get readers – why not cover indies as well then?). Good riddance to bad rubbish.
chillax man, for some of us nu metal was the biggining of something awesome. Everyone has a thing that gets them into a scene. For me it was the mid to late 90s and it was grunge then nu metal. Now i listen to pretty much everything from cult of luna to opeth, from lamb of god to sylosis. But bands like korn, papa roach, sevendust, etc even tho hold little sustance against great current bands like LOG will still have a place coz if it wasnt for them i might be listening to garage music right now.
Its happening again with the whole emo thing, if a shitty fad gets to to a place where u can then progess and find the substance in the music you cant dis it.
there is always room for a few quilty pleasures in a CD collection (and i have alot and i dont care).
oh yeah, what about mushroom head and ultraspank HAHAHA
Soil are nu metal?
Well their awesome none the less
Danny Champion – yeah, I’ll give you that one. Admittedly nu-metal did ‘ease’ a lot of people into metal, but what a way in… all that time listening to shitty 2 chord bands too scared/unable to play a solo… could have been listening to some decent metal…
Not bad, not bad! Being of the school of mind that doesn’t mind abit of nu-metal as long as it’s GOOD nu-metal I found this quite fun.
I can’t believe Deftones didn’t even get mentioned though! Plus I would have thought SOAD’s “Chop Suey” and One Minute Silence’s “Between a Rock and a White Face” would have been the better tracks to pick a compilation.
Good to see American Head Charge there though, nice to remind folks that some nu-metal was actually heavy!
…and I’m loving the people who are trying make the nu-metal bands that they thought were good weren’t ACTUALLY nu-metal! haha
And although Machine Head, Fear Factory and Soulfly aren’t exactly “nu-metal bands” they did tip their toese in the genre. Hell, you could even say Sepultura’s Roots album had it’s nu-metal leanings …so stop bitching about them being on the list!
gay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[...] can check out our other collections for Nu-Metal and Cover [...]
@ dan safety, are you serious about Pitchshifter? they have never been nu-metal. not one song was nu-metal.
and this whole nu-metal thing is stupid. half of the bands mentioned are in completely different genre’s. i mean come on, Spineshank, Fear Factory, Soulfly, P.O.D. ??? all are form very different genre’s. just the press are too lazy when it comes to putting bands under labels because they are a bit creative. no offence MH
Obviously Snots new metal you fool Danny
Luke:
This has always been my problem with the whole nu-metal name-tag. I don’t know anyone who can give me a hard and fast definition of what nu-metal actually is. Listen to Papa Roach or Linkin Park then listen to Slipknot, American Head Charge or Soulfly and you sorta end up wondering what the connection is.
No way Soulfly should ever be considered nu-metal. Personally, I think that the few bands that transcended that phase (Slipknot, Korn, SOAD-inclusion doubtful in the first place) should be let off being lumped in with the rest of them. And let’s never forget, if it wasn’t for ‘nu-metal’, acts like LoG may not have ever formed (considering they formed coz no-one was making the metal they wanted to hear). And who would want a world without the mighty ‘Lamb’.
I’m sure Metal Hammer posted an article like a month ago on how much Nu Metal sucked. Something like the 10 worst Nu Metal bands? I remember Alien Ant Farm being in there, because I think they’re a well underrated band myself, and I’m reasonably certain Coal Chamber and Papa Roach were there too.
Why the change of heart, Hammer?
Omg, Sway! I love that song to death!
You missed Otep though!
machine head? nu metal? realy???
RR, do some research and you might understand why.. Wikipedia is your friend
