Portnoy: “I’m Truly Honoured To Be Playing With Avenged Sevenfold”
The Dream Theater drumming machine reveals that he’s flattered to have been asked to drum on the new album from Avenged Sevenfold.
Mike Portnoy has spoken out about agreeing to play on the new Avenged Sevenfold album: “Even under normal circumstances I would’ve been happy to help the guys out in any way I could, as I think Avenged Sevenfold are a great band…but under these incredibly sad and tragic circumstances, I must say I am truly honored to have been asked to play with them… and I didn’t even have to think twice about saying yes.
“These guys are a true family and it is an incredibly emotional experience to be here with them for the first time without their lost brother. But they have welcomed me into the family with open arms and there’s a real excitement to make the record they had set out to make…
“I am treating my participation on this album with the utmost respect for Jimmy’s memory and am remaining as true as possible to the drum parts that he wrote for the songs and the record he wanted to make.
“I want their fans to realize that I’m not trying to step into or fill The Rev’s shoes…I’m just merely lacing ‘em up for him!”

If in the event that A7X don’t get a new full time drummer, I certainly can’t see them doing any wrong with working with Mike again in future, he does like to keep himself busy
Mike will never work full time with A7X or any other band apart from DT for that matter. He is Mr Dream Theater. This album is gonna be so sick.
Hell yeah, at least they got a good replacement, unlike a lot of bands do.

Im sure if I was younger I be down enough with kids to understand Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet for my valentine. But I aint. I do understand Dream Theatre as being amazing musicians and have to wonder why the fuck Portnoy would want to be in their band. Sorry they lost someone that’s always harsh, but this still seems like Slash joining Bullet for My Valentine or Trent Reznor joining Pantera

Are you questioning whether Avenged Sevenfold aren’t good musicians then? You need to take your hearing aid out gramps and listening to the talent that band can produce! Face it there’s always going to be new metal bands out (and don’t for once say a7x aren’t metal, cause you know they fookin’ are)!. I’m sure in 10 – 20 years time, kids nowadays are going to be saying the same things you just said, so shut up and deal with it!

@ALT7X lol you shouldn’t get angry at what other pople write in a forum you’ll give yourself an ulcer. I think Avenged Sevenfold are perfectly good musicians but they’re not my cup of tea and I can’t relate to them. There are plenty of new bands I like like Mastadon, and Baroness. The point I was making was that Portnoy seems like an odd replacement for a band that are much less mature than him.

Wow, I am not sure what to feel. Dream Theater is my alltime fav band, they’re GODS- all of them! And Mike my fav drummer of alltime. AX7 on the other hand… I can’t figure them out. I can’t relate to their music, and I can’t see them as “the amazing musicians” everyone say they are. I’m not a hater, I’m just blank when it comes to them. Besides, a part of me believes that it would have been better if Avenged Sevenfold chose to work with a drummer on their level. Mike is too skilled. It’s like Scott Rockenfield would work with Atreyu!
