Premiership Footballer Endorses Five Finger Death Punch
Which Premier League footballer dropped in to offer high-fives to Five Finger Death Punch on their current UK run.
Premiership footballers and metal don’t often go hand-in-hand but Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann came to see the Death Punch crew on the opening night of their UK tour with Shadows Fall.
Hahnemann, a former US international, said: “My favourite bands for a while have been Tool, Slipknot and Machine Head, and now I’d say Five Finger Death Punch too. I was recommended to check them out by (fellow US football player & former Millwall goalkeeper) Kasey Keller this summer, and I’ve been loving it since… although my wife isn’t!
“I’m not too impressed with the radio stations here; back home, you hear a lot of rock and metal, but in the UK you really have to make an effort, which is why the fans are so loyal.
“Most other players at the club like a lot of the top 40 music; pop, R&B, rap, stuff like that. Goalkeepers, though, we’re a different breed! Jamie Young, who I played with at Reading (now Wycombe Wanderers) is a metalhead too, but unfortunately he couldn’t make the show tonight.
“When you wanna get psyched up for training or for a game, you gotta listen to something that gets you going, and for me that’s metal. It gets me pumped up for performing in front of a crowd.”
Five Finger Death Punch will continue to their UK shows until November 30th.

thats awesome. explains why ivan was wearing his goalie shirt. Was sic!
I wish i was a goalkeeper!
Thats actually pretty sweet!
I know some football fans who love metal but never knew the players.
Could bridge gaps in violence for things like that.
I knew he was a bit of a metalhead before! I saw him doing an interview after a game once with a Tool hat on
Pretty cool lol
wow,i usually hate anything to do with football but that’s pretty interesting
I think this is a pretty cool article. Nice to actually read about people that you wouldn’t expect to be into metal but actually are. Gives me faith in humanity lol
why would that matter that a sports star likes metal.
Arthur Boruc was in his car once with a friend and my pal told them they were listening to polish rock
Hes the celtic goalkeeper
He has met him b4 and they were listening to polish rock
PROBABLY BEHEMOTH LOL
THEYRE DEATH METAL THO
i like metal and i like football too. i’m a diehard man united fan but what does it matter lol
@ samWSE: yeah I saw that too, that was cool
I once saw David Seaman dancing in his bedroom to Rammstein
Went to the Manchester Date last night. Was a great gig.
I was at the gig in Manchester last night. 5FDP are now my favourite band!!!!!!!!!!!! They are amazing live!!!!!
Goalkeeper for my school, Chelsea fan since I was 3, brought up with rock and metal my entire life. It’s possible! Nice to see this!
Btw, MotleyCruel: You cannot be serious!
hahnemann is a legend hes a huge metalhead
Carles Puyol(Barcelona) is into Napalm Death and Cannibal Corpse. Another footie metalhead there.
yeaaa Jamie Young.
Just show’s how awesome Wycombe Wanderers are that their 2nd goalie is a metalhead.
David Bentley’s favourite band is AC/DC
to be honest theres probs quite a few, more in places like germany and sweden, finland that area due to metal being huge over there, here the mainstream still scared of it.
Finally A footballer has got some Metal Taste!!
Although to be fair, you just need to take on look at him and its not surprising that he has decent taste.
He doesn’t look like the kinda person who’ll wait eagerly for the next Black Eyed Peas release.
90% of goalkeepers are rockers, there have been plenty of them admit it on the old skysports quickfire quiz.
Thomas Sorensen always used to play Metallica in the dressing room in his Villa days and Peter Schmeicel was always a metalhead himself.
How do you think they can be ready to put their bodies on the line like nutters?
i can just imagine peter schmeichel psyching himself up to his fellow danes mercyful fate!
its no surprise that some footballers are metal fans, its not as if its exclusive. i know people in all walks of life who love metal. also doesnt surprise me that its mainly goalkeepers!
I think it’s mainly the Finnish/Swedish players who are big on their metal, because well, metal is so big in Scandanavia. I love football as much as I do metal, so yes it is very possible.
I was at the manchester gig thursday night, shame he didnt come then! it was an awsome show, my ears are still ringing coz i was right at the front
That’s awesome, respect.
