Protest The Hero Raise Over $200,000 In One Week For New Album. Fair Play, Lads. Fair Play
The highest of high fives of the week go to brilliantly eccentric Canadian tech metal crew Protest The Hero, who have revealed that, thanks to their fans, they managed to raise over $200,000 in a week towards the costs of their new album.
The opus – which will be the follow-up to excellent 2011 album Scurrilous – will be recorded using the funds raised through fan funding site Indiegogo.com, which encourages bands to take more control over their music and its recording and distribution.
“We are finally free from all obligations and want to be in control of our ‘careers,’” says the band in a collective statement. “In general, the record industry is backwards and we’d be stupid to renegotiate with anyone at this time. Crowdfunding seems to be something that’s working. Whether or not this is the next thing for the music industry, it’s a way that supporters of a band can know exactly where their hard earned dollars are going. No middlemen, no commissions, no bullshit.”
Here’s a video message from the band concerning the Indiegogo project too!
Nicely done. Let’s hoping it leads to more bangers like this:
