I have tried to write a tribute in this space, several times. I cannot find the words that do this great man justice.

A brilliant songwriter, a wonderful lyricist, a definitive Metal / Rock singer and an amazing human being.

I am truly heartbroken that Dio has been taken from this world, but I take solace that he joins my late mum in Heaven (and she was also a fan).

And yes – I agree with some other comments – the ‘Devil Horns’ should be renamed Dio Horns and a stage at the metal festivals (Like Download, etc) should be called the RJD Stage, for his outstanding conrtibution and lifetime effort in our music.

From Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow to the Last in Line, for nearly 10 years, the voice of metal was umistakably Dio – mighty and powerful, soaring and towering, he rendered songs that were magical and mythical, layered with themes and content that came from his heart…he was also capable of delivering the most tender of ballads – Rainbow Eyes

Wow, this sucks. I was never a massive fan of any of the bands he played in, if i’m being honest, though i recognize how iconic he was and how much of influence he had, he truly was one of the most recognizable vocalists in heavy metal, it is such a shame (metalheads really haven’t had it well recently), i hope his family and friends all the best and that he rests in piece.

I was lucky enough to see ronnie playing with Heaven and Hell 2 times and his talent is beyond inspirational.

I’m not one for writing testimonial speeches but, here goes…. Ronnie had the most amazing voice in music. A true legend, a great musician, a talented artist, an amazing human being. There was no-one quite like him.

Dio was the first “real” show I saw (1987, Dream Evil tour, Warlock as guest), and it got me hooked for life.
Glad I saw him one last time with H&H last year at Hellfest.

This is an irreplaceable loss.

My heart is heavy 24 hours after hearing of this stunning and sad news. We know our legends can’t stay on Earth for ever, and even though he we 67 he seemed so much younger than that. I figured when I first heard of his cancer affliction that it that it would be a tough fight for him, but he was so optimistic and such a damn fighter. I remember seeing him play the Inglewood (Los Angeles) Forum back in 1985 in support of the “Sacred Heart” album. Phenomenal show; it was my first ever concert and to this day STILL my favorite. I hate you, cancer!! The ***king cancer won >:-( At least the battle for his mortality anyway. He has won the war and will always be a metal legend…forever.

I feel priviliged to have seen him, doing what he does and loves best, before he passed away.

Ronnie was truly a legend. I never met him, but I saw him on That Metal Show and he was the kindness, most grounded star I have evre seen. He saw himself as just another guy who sang for a living. Hard rock and metal is really going to miss his incredible vocals, as well has his great nature.

Ever since I heard, I’ve been consumed with grief & only brought myself to posting something now… Cancer took both of my grandparents when I was very young, Chuck Billy beat it, Chuck Schuldiner lost to it & now Dio: my ultimate idol. Seriously, no other death in recent years has moved me like this. Sent him get well wishes the day before Christmas.

To all of you over in the UK & US who are lucky enough to get regular opportunities to see your fave performers live, let this be a reminder: do so before its too late, you never know when their time will come. Unfortunately, I had a feeling that I would probably never see him as its just out of the question for me to get to where he played & not everyone can fly to remote corners of the Earth like Maiden have But now the finality/reality of his passing is sinking in & that’s what makes it even harder to bear :’-(

Martin Popoff has put it very well (as always) by saying that when other more famous rockers die, the mainstream media will likely get it wrong (as always) by overlooking this tremendously sad occassion but we true brothers (& sisters) of metal know that in reality Dio will forever be revered as The God Of Metal \m/ We’ve lost our Rising Son…
