Rage Against The Machine For Christmas Number 1?
Last week it was 40,000 people trying to get Journey to number 1 on the Christmas charts; this week, it’s 300,000 people trying to get RATM’s ‘Killing In The Name’ to the summit of the charts this Yuletide!
Rage Against The Machine’s “fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me” refrain. It just conjures images of chestnuts roasting by an open fire, sleigh-bells ringing in the snow and father Christmas getting his overweight ass through your skinny chimney, doesn’t it? Well, no, but that’s not the point.
300,000 people have joined a Facebook group to get RATM’s classic ‘Killing In The name Of’ to number one this Christmas.
Here’s the scheme: download the track on iTunes for 79p from next Monday December 14th and hope that it stops one of the three talentless pricks in this Sunday’s X Factor from getting to number 1.
We’ll post you a reminder next Monday just to jog your memory. That and we really don’t want any of the X Factor’s mob at number one. have you seen those three? The bint’s got all the brains of the last thing we squeezed out of our ass, the bloke’s a cheeky, chirpy chav who dances like David Brent and the kid looks like a human Spitting Image puppet. Go on the Rage!
Join this facebook group here!

publish this in your magazine if you have one out before next week.
I know for a fact the 300,000 people who signed up to this wont buy the single…. my sister sent me the link and she doesnt even use itunes!! or own an mp3 player if all 300,000 people bought it then it would be the biggest selling single of the year….. it might make top ten but no way number 1 as 79p is just to much for some people
Keep in mind, that both the X-Factor song and RATM are ultimately on the same label. This just seems like a lame, veiled attempt at getting money/attention.
I’ve been a member of the group since its early days when it had just a couple of thousand members, and I still intend to buy the song on Monday the 14th, if not once maybe even twice. You don’t have ot buy it from itunes. There’s a list of sites you can buy it from which are chart eligible. 7digital is one example. I also think play.com is eligible for the charts too, but don’t quote me on that.
You don’t need to be an iTunes user to download it. There are plenty of other digital download places that count for the charts, and all the relevant links will be posted when it’s time to buy. I don’t think everyone who joined the group will buy the single, but I do think enough people will buy it to shove it nice and high up the charts.
iv already got the song but fuck it why not??? could you imagine it sitting there eating your turkey your mum asks you to fetch the gravy when all of sudden FUCK YOU I WON’T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!!!! comes blasting out the radio
well i can imagine it klown… but i have a feeling it would be censored anyway so you wouldnt get Fuck you…. you would get ……..you i wont do what you tell me…. this is not gonna sell 300,000 it costs nothing to join a facebook group but people dont wanna part with their cash whatever the cause
Yeah the Fuck You bit is censored on scuzz even after 10pm. Its just zach going “EUGH won’t do what you tell me!”
I joined the fb group and I intend to buy it, I dont even care if its censored, the media attention over it would be hilarious, imagine all the disgruntled complainers, priceless.
Plus the chance to jump up and leap around like a maniac to it on christmas day, much to the horror of my family, will be awesome.
WOOHOO GO RAGE
Ugh i hate tht song
@Ollie: I heard it once on Scuzz at like 1 in the afternoon and it was completely uncensored, in all it’s vulgar glory. Shit was awesome
thank god i hope this works im sick of hearing all the talentless pricks this show churns out each year!
well….why not just download the original version of dont stop believing by journey ? or some underground band that could do with the money ?
yeah, syco records (x factor) and epic (rage) are both owned by sony, so only waste your money on this if you really care about the sanctity of the christmas number, which has always been shit.
I will deffo buy it!! By the time it comes around there will be a good few hundred thousand people in the group, and if half of them buy it sales will be astronomical!!! I back this cause wholeheartedly!
Its not about the money or the record label. Its about the commercialization of music. And the shit xfactor churns out.
And to quote rage on the record label.
“When you live in a capitalistic society, the currency of the dissemination of information goes through capitalistic channels. Would Noam Chomsky object to his works being sold at Barnes & Noble? No, because that’s where people buy their books. We’re not interested in preaching to just the converted. It’s great to play abandoned squats run by anarchists, but it’s also great to be able to reach people with a revolutionary message, people from Granada Hills to Stuttgart.”
And how many other songs are being campaigned to beat X-Factor this way? Its only a couple of weeks since MH were telling us to buy Journey’s Don’t stop believin. And this is the second “Keep X Factor off No1″ song I’ve read of just TODAY!
None of this ever works cos everyone agrees with the sentiment but when it comes to it they can’t be arsed.
Fuck Yuletide, I won’t do what you tell me?
even if they are both on the same label is irrelevant,by buying this song the band and label get the cash,i don’t get why people think mr cowell is going to benefit from sales of rages song, personally i want to see it get there,i want them to know i do not wish to spoon fed manufactured crap, they dont even bother to hide that anymore…its unacceptable….if you ever wanted to be heard you know what to do.
RAGE!!! awesome article! really hope this happens- I’ll be buying a few copies!
For everyone who keeps drawing a connection between Syco & Epic being owned by Sony STOP. This was never about stick it to sony as the 1st words of the description say “Fed up of Simon Cowell’s latest karaoke act being Christmas No.1? ” 300,000 and growing so you never know this Xmas eating your turkey dinner rocking out to RATM!!
355,000 before I went to the pub
411,000 after 2 pints.
lol. this might actually work
Check out http://www.ragefactor.co.uk
Currently on 450,000 members. Sure some won’t remember/bother sadly…but I started it cos I wanted a Decent tune at No.1 instead of yet another faceless X-Factor winners single. Just a laugh…not to be taken seriously. just to have the Xmas Top of the Pops HAVE to play it (Albeit a censored version)
Get in guys! http://bit.ly/inthename

Well done ‘Hammer’ (I may just grow my hair again)
And they have also set up a justgiving page for Shelter as they have recognised that some of the x-factor revenue goes to charity. They have already raised over £2.5k!
Check it out:

Can’t argue with that!
the thing is if you dont try and just let them carry on it will never change – apathy is what they thrive on
Stand Up and be counted and send them a message – and get some REAL music back
and “oh i dont like that song” whatever song it is ,its going to be better than some schmultzy cover of miley cyrus – the climb something from hannah montana
and 79-99p to say “No Mr cowell this year we wont take it anynore”
worth every single penny if you ask me
also the members of the group are raising money through donations for the charity Shelter over a couple of thousand £’s already raised

“Fuck you I wont do what you tell me!” unless it’s blindly mass-voting for one of the most overplayed songs in the history of modern music.
I’m a member and I will definitely buy it, maybe twice. If it works it will be worth it. The music business has always been about making money and everyone in the group understands the Sony link. This is about smug karaoke Cowell and co fixing the charts and the minds of our children so that we will never understand that real music can be succesful and commercial.
“Fed up of Simon Cowell’s latest karaoke act being Christmas No.1? ”
You think Cowell only cares about being top of the charts? Its SALES he wants. The chart position is meaningless.
I joined the Facebook group and its nearly 600,000 strong now. I will definately be buying it! C’mon Rage, no Simon Cowell churned out trash this year!
To the ‘Paul’ posting earlier comments-
there are now nearly 700,000 people on the facebook group and the hype is still growing. This is definitely a possibility for Christmas number 1 now.
As for people ‘not willing to part with their money’ – the group has raised over £10k for charity shelter in association with the campaig in just a few days.
Trust me, people WILL be buying this song come Monday.
Just bought it!!! ITS THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS TUNE!!
ive been a member on the FB group for a while and i bought the song from itunes, play and tesco dwnld. as has my fiance.
its not about the money, more like having to listen to talentless hacks, like those off x factor and many more beside (ie most of the top 40) i dont even know who watches that x factor shit. its pathetic.
Rage are signed to Epic which is a subsidiary of Sony and is financially independant.
Everyone know that even if Killing in the Name does sell more copies than that X-Factor bullshit, the charts have always been rigged anyway.
But none of that matters, ‘cos even if Rage are number 2 for Xmas, everyone will still bear witness to the awesome power of the rock/metal community.
And to all the cynics who are dissing the campaign… CHEER UP YOU DEPRESSING BASTARDS!!!
It’s only a bit of fun!
It doesn’t matter whether you like the song. It doesn’t matter what record company (lets face it sony owns everything) gets the money. And 29p or 79p is NOT too much to pay especially as some of it is going to charity!
So, are you going to keep arguing amongst yourselves about the why’s and wherefores when you could put your money where your mouth is and stick two fingers up to the x-factor shite. Amazon and HMV both sell the mp3 download, there’s no excuse.
Buy it from amazon for only 29p!
we can do it! ∑:-3
