A sterling effort from the Bullet Boys, high fives all round

I think its spot on. Ok the ballads are a bit eugh, but overall i think it’s really really strong. A massive step-up from S A F and in my personal opinion, better than The Poison

shocking, they became even pussier than the last album. which in itself had what 2 good songs? god tell me when they man the fuck up and play some metal that isnt for the emo faggots?

Robert Veness

In the name of all that is heavy fucking metal, it could be better. However, it is a massive improvement on Scream, Aim, Fire. I’d give it a B-.

Great album, easily the best so far of the year for me. Why has there been no tour announced though? Surely they haven’t signed a uk exclusive with download…

It was a bit different from the other two albums, but I liked it as much as I still like the first two albums.

IT is the best album so far they have good sales on there current album faver then they will be able to do arenas

The Crunch

A few belters but most of it is very poor (especially the shocking ballads). It sounds like The Poison but without the balls or riffs. Should be huge though, its radio metal by numbers.

Dan Veazey

Impressive. I think this album could push them on to headliner status at some festivals. They’ve got some great hooks on their but not as poppy as their last effort. Looking forward to seeing them at download!

Despite the criticisms I’ve heard for this album, personally I think it is Bullet’s best – the first three songs in my opinion are some of Bullet’s strongest. My only criticism is that towards the end of the album the tracks seem to blend in to one another (as they do with the other Bullet albums).

By no means a bad album, just not inciting anything particularly interesting. I wasn’t too taken by the singles, but tracks like Pretty On The Outside are good. But the production I feel lets it down in certain parts.

Dee4leeds

If it wasn’t for all the ballads in the middle, I’d say it’s a Poison beater. However as they are there, it’s a close second in the BFMV discography. Great effort.

Joelukephilpott

Solid 8/10 album, opening 3 songs are banging tracks, with some good tracks the close such as ‘Begging for mercy.’ the chorus to Fever is so infectious it’s been stuck in my head for days, seriously you could hear that being echoed around an arena. This could be Bullet’s ‘Black Album’, obviously not on the scale sales wise but a more song based stripped back album with catchy lyrics and killer riffs alot like Metallica’s album when they released songs like ‘Enter Sandman’ and ‘Sad But True’. All round a good effort from Bullet, a much more grown up, focused record which could make them. I can’t wait to hear the new stuff at Download.

Kergash

I think the album was really kick ass. Maybe not completely what I hoped for, but it’s still this really solid album with some really awesome songs. And I think that people are looking way to much into it when they try to make it out as their worst album so far, I think it might be one of the best, a real step-up from Scream Aim Fire, atleast.

tomthebodz

Massive return to form. I’ve listened to the album about 10 times already and I’m not bored with it yet. Your Betrayal is my personal favourite. Well done lads – career back on track

Frances

it is absolutely awesome, Your Betrayal is like a drug. but it is not as good as I expected, I still like The Poison more

I was ready to love this after all the praise you gave it on the podcast. I loved The Poison and Scream Aim Fire had a few good tunes on it
But I’m sorry………I just laughed through the entire thing. Shit generic riffs and Matt Tucks bubblegum pop vocals, no thanks

I think it’s a good effort from the guys in Bullet. If this album was released by a less ‘mainstream’ metal band, most of the people screaming “emo faggots” would probably like it. I admit it is a bit over produced in parts, and I doubt it will rate as one of my favorite albums of the year, but there are some cracking tracks on it. I think it will rest on how the songs sound live.

batwife

it needs a few listens, songs that I didn’t like the first time I now love already. They worked really well live at the secret show on monday. I think that the lessons they’ve learnt from Scream Aim Fire and now Fever will lead to the next album being better again.

As a long time Bullet fan I thought the latest album was a little bland, no one song really jumped out at me. HOWEVER, I remember not fully liking Scream, Aim, Fire when I first got that too, it took a little time to fully access and get into.

Perhaps this album will be the same, I’ve listed to it twice fully since they began streaming, maybe a couple more listens and I’ll feel differently.

It’s a good album as far as it goes. It’s better than scream aim fire but just weaker on the whole than the poison.

It does drag a bit, which is worrying considering it’s only 45 mins long. I have a theory for this. Too many of the songs are in the same key and they tend to run in to one another.

They won’t be taken seriously until Matt Tuck learns to write decent lyrics but this is a good album and probably slightly better than the 6/10 that hammer gave it.

Gavinge

A hugely dissapointing album, there comes a point in a lot of bands careers where they try something new, and it fails big time, sadly for Bullet, this is it. They’ve gone from a Metal band to a fringe flopping Metalcore band. Let’s hope this doesn’t dent their popularity too much and fans will hold out for a new album

I’ve read comments on both the Metal Hammer website as well as their interview on Ultimate-Guitar and I must say, a lot are negative. I for one am very impressed with their new work. It’s a big step from Scream, Aim Fire, in a positive direction. They’re back with awesome riffs and even better lyrics, despite what anyone says. Their songs have more meaning and they’re easy to listen to. If their next album is anything like this, they’ll be on their way to one of the best metal bands, they’re not far off it. They’ve done very well with ‘Fever’.

noobpotato

Its better than scream aim fire but thats not really saying much. I feel that the 2 songs released before the streaming and full album release are some of the worst on the album compared to the other songs. I’m not a fan of bullet no more so i listened out of curiosity and was pleasently surprised.

david amos

i like the first three tracks loads, and (i think) the fifth, but others don’t stand out so much…

Not a big bullet fan but will certainly check this out did see them once at dahnload in 06 but kinda sat towarsds the side of the stage kinda hungover but was impressed by them.

‘Fever’ is definitely a grower. It took a few listens to really get into it. People are expecting ‘The Poison’ but that was about five years ago now. So obviously it’s going to be different. ‘Fever’ Is a very strong effort from the Bullet boys. Every track has a sing along chorus with some nice fresh vocal melodies from Matt. I don’t think the guitar work is anything like it is on ‘The Poison’. It has less exciting riffs such as ‘Hand Of Blood’ or ‘Tears Don’t Fall’ It seams they concentrated too much on vocal melodies rather than the music. Overall I would rate this an 8.5/10. They are a massive band and a lot of people love them. Anyone that disagrees can fuck off!

for bullet this is a good album, it’s much better than scream aim fire, but for a metal album this really isn’t that good

Darren Alexander Wright

I’m not a Bullet fan so this album won’t be for me. Having said that, the songs I’ve heard from this new album showed more promise than what Scream Aim Fire did.
No doubt there’ll be the haters who’ll spout vitriol about this band, but at least they’re a British band who are out there doing it. The British metal scene needs people who’ll give it a face, even it is these welsh chancers.
Damn, I thought I’d get through this without insults! Fail!

Chris Franklin

Awful album, it’s pop metal by numbers. Like if TV made a metal band it’d sound like BFMV

Josh (origamikid)

An album of two halves. the first half; your betrayal, fever, the last fight and Begging for mercy and stormers.

Those songs rule, best thing they have stamped their name on HOWEVER.

The rest of the album is just- forced arena tunes, boring melodic teen angst ridden songs and the lyrics on some of these other songs are just so bad, lame and pathetically feminine that it is just unintentionally and unlisten-ably bad.

I dont hate it, but i dont like it either.
For every decent, cool part of a song, there is something else to make me cringe.
Pop vocal melodies i think you could hear on a Cheryl Cole record, no standout tracks and Matt Tuck’s lyrics actually got worse (which i didnt think could happen.).
There may be a few decent moments, but its not enough for me to ever listen to the album again. Glad i could listen before i buy, so i wont waste money.

Bullet are back and better than ever!!!

Fever knocks the poison and scream aim fire out of the ring.

This is british metal at its best!

Cant wait to see them at download 2010!!

10/10 i would give this album.

Ryclahn Walker

Yeah it’s not a groundbreaking album but it’s decent. I like it. I don’t think it was ever going to be different than it was. If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. Pretty simple. Also the advantage of bullet and their songs being on radio 1 is that it’s an entry point for people that don’t necessarily know or listen to metal. I got into metal from the lighter side of metal like your bullets and all and now I’m into heavy metal, thrash, hardcore, stoner etc. So good things come from bands like that. So good things can come from bullet!

I haven’t got anything nice to say, so I won’t say anything at all.

Junkhead

Same issue as SAF in that half is really good while half is rather shit!
Also some the lyrics are incredibly pussy…

i think they’ve done what they should have done with scream aim fire, and that is to make an album as good (if not better) than the poison. this album will only make bullet a better band and even open up more people to their music because it does have some pop parts in it.

I think this album is the “Butt Metal” Steel Panther sang of. I always listen to every album BFMV release because they generally get good reviews but I’m still yet to get what all the hype is about. Whilst their playing is technically good, it’s not anything I haven’t heard elsewhere. Couple the generic riffs & shredding with Matt Tuck’s whining pussy hole vocals and it just becomes unbearable. In summary: This album is just as wank as their other albums

I’d give it a 7/10. The first three songs provide an awesome, solid and attention-grabbing start to the album. Then a bit later on there’s “Alone”, which is now one of my favourite Bullet songs. And Begging For Mercy is just epic. To me, it seems like a blend of the last two albums, which isn’t a bad thing. Seems like the combined the best of both. Personally, I preferred Scream Aim Fire but I certainly don’t regret buying Fever. Not one bit. Good effort, good result.

King of Rotten

Blaze Bayley “Promise and Terror” album is much better.

Laurence

I really enjoyed it and liked it how they’d stepped it up from SAF. Like any band, they’re moving with the times and I think they’ve succeeded. It’s got the excellent tracks all the way through it but of course the first three stand out. It’s not emo and it is heavy, why is everyone expecting a Master of Puppets or Number of the Beast like effort just because it’s their third album?

Seopher

‘Fever’ was always going to be a difficult album, given how much the band polarise the metal community. ‘The Poison’ broke them onto the scene after a promising mini album and was quite clearly a metal album.

‘Scream Aim Fire’ became the difficult second album, unsure of which direction to take but clearly yearning for a more commercially accessible sound it alienated a lot of the metal community that felt the need to defend the band against naysayers.

‘Fever’ has seen the Bullet boys make a clear declaration of where they see their sound; hard rock with metal riffs. Sure the lyrics are cheesy and the musical topography predictable, but when taken at face value it’s a perfectly accessible, enjoyable album.

To compare ‘Fever’ to ‘The Poison’ would be like comparing the ‘Black Album’ to ‘Master of Puppets’, not that either album deserves such a comparison, but it emphasises the change in style and aspirations.

It’s a good album and they’re a great live band, but make no mistake, this is hard rock with some key metal lead, not the other way around.

Life Threatening Lifestyles

Alright I suppose, just nothing surprising or new. Nice riffs, however lyrics are embarrasingly bad as usual.
‘Fever’ or ‘Breaking Out Breaking Down’ are probably the stand out tracks for me.

Was never going to beat the EP or The Poison.

Overall I would call this a good album. The music is amazing but once the vocals kick in, its just disappointing. Matt Tucks vocals are too weak to supplement monster tunes like Your Betrayal and Pleasure and Pain. His vocals work well with lower caliber songs such as Breaking out, Breaking down, which is a shame really. I gotta give it to them though, the choruses are catchy as fuck.

Ryan6sic6

Your Betrayal, Fever, The Last Fight, Pleasure and Pain and Begging For Mecy all own. the others…. not so much.

I’m so tired of the Bullet bashing. It’s old and tired – find something new to bitch about.

The record is full of great songs – at least 7 or 8 would sound great live including the more ballady type ones. Who cares if they’re rock influenced metal, metal, rock metal or any other stupid tag you want to stick on it.

More importantly though, Bullet have delivered an album with the potential to make them truly massive. When was the last time Britain delivered a band who could become true giants? It could happen, but it’s not going to happen unless everybody starts to get behind them (that includes you – Metal hammer reviewers!). So lets stop arguing about whether it’s more Maiden or Def Lep. Lets all just admit that it’s a great record (you know it is) and start supporting them, or we may never produce another band who could headline the likes of Download or Sonisphere.

It’s nowhere near as good as As I Lay Dying’s latest effort ‘The Powerless Rise’, but I’ll have to agree with everyone else that in overall it is still a step up from ‘Scream Aim Fire’. If it is any better than ‘The Poison’ remains to be seen, right now they’re pretty much tied for me. Absolute highlight is ‘Pleasure and Pain’!

Not a bad album although the only 3 really memorable songs are the tracks that were released before the album. A vast improvement on Scream, Aim, Fire (Although that was never going to take much) but I don’t think this is the album to take them to the ‘next level’. Don’t think we’ll see them headlining the likes of Download on the back of this effort.

@ Shane

I’m not completely bashing the band. They’ve got good songs and are good on their instruments.
Just honestly dont like this album.
And i dont respect them as a band either, so i’m not sure i want to support them in their quest for getting big.

Callum Wooldridge

I’ve been a solid Bullet fan since the beggining. I could even put up with SAF but my innitial oppinon of the album it was a bit ‘Meh’. But what gill said the other day on the podcast the other day was spot on, I was just waiting for it to just grab me and make me like it. Im still on the fence about the track Fever but the songs that are a win for me are The Last fight and Pleasure and Pain. My rating at the moment… 5/10.

not great, but not disasterous

Callum Wooldridge

Oh missed out the vital bit, Vocal melodies, MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT. But the lyric writing has suffered tremendously

@ Ryan D,
No, this isn’t the album that will get them there, but it will get them a lot closer. Even the mighty Slipknot took 4 albums to get to headliner status. Still, we need to back them now, or it’s never going to happen and we’ll have to wait another 10 or 20 years to produce a band that could headline. So far, between Soni and Download, only 4 British bands have ever headlined:
Sabbath
Maiden
Lostprophets
Def Leppard

Bar the Lostprophets (a dodgy headliner choice at best) all these bands started in the 70’s and 80’s. My point is that Britain hasn’t produced a band that can go supernova in fucking decades. On the back of Fever, I reckon Bullet are our best chance at ever producing another massive band but unless we all start to support them, it’s never going to happen.

jellyman

This album fuckin’ rocks! All you clahns out there who keep nagging away at BFMV can fuckin’ suck Matt Tuck’s ass! Besides, you can’t get wrong with an album cover depicting a lady who pinches herself with a claw :D

crossofconfusion

Bullet suck. Theyre a wannabe Trivium, which also suck. not for me. whatsoever!
minus 20 out of 10

Seopher

@Shane

It’s debateable whether there’ll ever be superstar level rock/metal bands. The scene has changed so much since the 70’s/80’s, there’s now so much choice and diversity. The Internet has made spreading music so easy that I can’t really see any current band getting to the same level as Maiden or Metallica.

Bad Metal

I can’t help but feel disappointed. I know with this effort Bullet wanted to go for more of a classic rock sound but by doing this I think they have missed an opportunity to become huge.

There are some massive riffs here which just end up being washed out by average song writing and naive lyrics. They wanted to move on but with ‘Dignity’ sounding like ‘Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow’ crossed ‘The Pretender’ by the Foo Fighters I think they have failed. I like the Foo Fighters as much as the next man, but I don’t need Bullet trying to be the Foo Fighters. This is rock by numbers where the sing lyric, shout lyric format wears thin after five or six songs.

Die hards will love it but I can’t see them reaching larger audiences with this.

Its the best album yet! ‘The Poison’ was a great album and They just seem to be getting better as they go on!
I love Pleasure and Pain! The start of it is the best thing I have ever heard!

NINTallica

I thought the last two albums were great – despite the criticisms of SAF. Sadly this one isnt of the same quality IMO, the sound it quite soft and less hard-hitting and the lyrics in places are cringe-worthy. I’m hoping it grows on me but at the moment its not looking good.

People who say Fever is better than Poison are so wrong. I think Fever is pretty weak. Only two good songs. The lyrics especially suck. ‘You don’t bring me pleasure. You just bring me pain, and nothing in between.’ Come on man, really lame.

Not quite digging this album, I like Bullet but the songs on Fever are just mediocre. They have already established the commercial song status no need to water all the songs down with the poor lyrics/vocals spread throughout the album. personally prefer s.a.f. over this. Sounds like they are not content with thier metal “title” and are stuck in transition to a hard rock band!!

sam stowe

its a 10/10 album, not a bad track there. Best thing they have ever and willl ever put their name to.

I think this album is most dissapointing because it does have the potential to be really good! The album is laced with awesome riffs but gets totally raped by poorly sung shit lyrics! The first song on the album for example, it starts with this brilliant build up and you start to think its going to be brilliant, then comes the whisperd verse…. I mean, seriously?

Dave Wroe

As a huge Bullet For My Valentine fan I’m obviously going to be biased, but I really think that its a brilliant album, its definately my favourite of theirs, The Poison is pretty close behind though, I really don’t get why loads of people seem to hat he album, Having a whispered verse doesn’t make it a bad song, they’re trying something different, I personally think it turned out great, but maybe even if you dont, at least it’s something different, if they did the exact same as everyone else you would get bored, I’m fucking ecstaic that they mixed it up because It’s turned out brilliantly, I would love to see a tour after this though, I can’t get to Download so would be brilliant to see them on a tour, Keep up the good work guys.

I liked the album, i have given it about 3 listens now and it grew on me , not exactly gonna win album of the year, but its not a bad album, its hooky and the same time has some really cool guitar riffs on it. 8/10 for me

i agree wi nick waaaaay up top, ffs jus bring a strong metal album out instead of a handful of awesome songs and a pile of shit, we all know they can do it! Do it 4 the metalz n not for the kids, it aint about them its about the music. Its so disappointin gettin ur hopes up with these guys goin… “Maybe this time… surely!” But no, stil pretty gay. B one or the other. I like the heavy shit, but wud piss on the mixer while they’re recordin the ballads. Rant over… MUYA!!!! \m/

galimim

It is a good solid album. The riffs are great, but the lyrics are not so convincing. Too much of emo crap.
BFMV are hard to classify because they are way to heavy for group of emos but at the same time their lyrics say otherwise.
Not bad album at all. 8/10

Who the hell said Scream Aim Fire was a shitty album??? that was an awsome album! i wuld say almost as good as the poison, though i havent heard this album yet cuz i havent had a chance to buy it but i bet its great, i dont like to much there change in music wise but its still bullet and since there my fav band i will always say they are the best, and just cuz a metal band doesnt have hardcore screamming all the way doesnt mean they suck, like as i lay dying is basically all screams so u cant say there new album is better kuz i belive it probably wont, though lyrically there a lil better than bullet

George L

Ms. Gibson’s review certainely set my expectations low, however, I felt that Bullet have made a great album here, the slow songs could have been done without but it was balanced by some really strong tracks, though this won’t get as manyplays as some of my other albums, it doesn’t deserve the criticism it’s received 7.5/10

Zak McCormack

I’ve been a huge Bullet fan for a while now, and I’m not afraid to say that I really liked Scream, Aim,Fire. Fever on the other hand takes things to a whole new level. How people can say “Datz not metulz” is beyond me cause well Bullet are metal and you should be proud of a British metal band being as big as they are. Fever Rules!!

although some of the lyrics are laughable and comparable to lyrics in other tracks on the album, i do think bullet are on the way back up to the top… slowly – 2 more albums will be the high point of the career i think. the only major let down for me would be the whispered lyrics and as with scream, too many melodic songs. that said, the songs that aren’t too melodic are actually quite good – i think this album is worth listening to and worth paying for on the basis that it will grow on you if you listen enough times, but nothing immediately amazing leaps out of the songs… might have to see some of these songs live to appreciate them fully – i liked scream aim fire a lot more having seen the guys live. i have noticed huge improvement in the backing vocals on fever but there is not enough of the heavy side for my liking – that said, good album, worth at least one listen

this called “fever” is the best shit i ever heart… sorry, thats not bullet, this remind me an emo band try to be famous.. just like is their EP for a debut album… i use to listen bullet but since i heard fever i hate them, i dont know why. . . .

I’m in the camp of people Beez talked about last night: those who might’ve liked BFMV when they got into metal (though to be honest I never even listened to them when I did, but I probably could’ve liked them) but now I listen to bands like Cannibal Corpse and to be honest couldn’t care less about BFMV.
And yes so we’re clear I haven’t heard the album and have no interest in doing so. I’ve Triptykon’s debut album “Eparistera Daimones” on near permanent rotation and nothing is gonna bump that off.

However my friend came over to my place a week or so ago around the time the first video for this album became available and the first thing he said to me, even before “Hi mate what’s up?”, was “Bullet For My Valentine are a bunch of cunts.”
I was suprised to say the least and he said this: “I was watching music videos on TV (don’t remember the channel) and I saw this one come on with pretty nice riff to open it, saw the musicians, saw their guitars, thought “sweet finally a metal band on this” and then that little cunt opened his mouth “waaawaaaawaaawaaa” what a whiny little fucking baby, fuck them”

@crossofconfusion

Bullet, a wannabe Trivium? You’ve got to be joking, listen to their latest stuff, Nothing alike and also, Bullet kicks Triviums ass.

About all thses people moaning because they claim there is no change, well look at cannibal corpse, they have never changed and i dont hear u people moaning bout them eh get a life!!!, just enjoy the songs for what they are.
i think the real reason why people hate it or dont like it that much is because they were expecting a “master of puppets” effort.
personaly i think an album only needs to have around 5 good songs that can be a good addition to thelive set to make a good cd. this cd tops everything they have done, and the weird thing is that i went in with douts because of what people were saying about it online, but i try to see past it,i did, and i found a good cd. 7.5/10

Ryclahn Walker

Wasn’t really expecting anything different from the new album. I don’t mind it. I mean it’s decent and I like it but it was never gonna be groundbreaking. But I think some good could come
out of the album though. I mean I’ve heard 2 songs from
fever on radio 1 and people who maybe don’t listen 2 metal or haven’t listened 2 metal are hearing different style or music that they might get it into in a big way. Everyone that’s into metal had an entry point for metal. Bullet could be for alot of kids

Bullet rocks again

great album in my opinion, great riffs, decent vocals but excelent hooks. ive had fever and the last fight stuck in my head for days. well done chaps 9/10 for me

I haven’t listened to it at all, where the fuck have I been?

its ok. its a great improvement on SAF, but its just not on the level of The Poison or the EP. they have got a long way to go in my mind to get back there. i wont be parting with my money for this.

Rich Brown- addicted to randon acts of clahness

I do like Fever and I’m sure that it will be ingrained into my brain overtime but, as a bullet fan, I’m disappointed by the lack of progression, restraint on Jays’ screams (a possible side-effect of being too wary of S.A.F.’s critics?) and Matt Tuck playing far too safe with his vocals. I’m interested to see the reaction of the fans to Fever and the inevitable tour that will follow as BFMVs’ live shows may just save their skins or see them banished from our metal hearts.

It is a great album, 10 times better than scream aim fire. Matt Tuck’s vocals have obviously improved immensly and we aren’t waiting for the classic Matt Tuck chorus line. Although, i have one critisism: the album isn’t heavy enough! BFMV put out Begging For Mercy and i thought great, handbangers, guitar solos, screams and all, but this seems to be the heaviest song on the album.

but all in all a quality album.

StealthyPike

It was a bizarre album. The songs that were good (Fever, The Last Fight and Begging For Mercy) are amazing in my opinion; three of the best songs they’ve written. However, I found the rest of the album to be underwhelming. None of the other songs (except maybe the ballads) were awful, just not that great. An improvement on Scream Aim Fire, but not as good as The Poison.

HeadBangerHenry

Growing on me this one though im still a bit dissapointed. yeah there’s some great riffs and solos but the lyrics are just shit and although the vocal melodies are better, the poppiness of the production takes away any impact……..though who knows what i make of it in another week (i didn’t like master of puppets when i first heard it lol)

a great new album from bullet! it really kicks the crap out of scream aim fire but despite what people say it wasnt as good as the poison and it could have done with some more solo’s, heavier riffs and more screamop style vocals. but all round a great album! 8/10

Skullcrusher666

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEfuckingMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*cough*gay*cough*

Actually that was unfair to gays, so scratch that.

Joseph C

Overall, i found it to be rather average.
It’s improved in some areas and let down in others.

Matt’s vocal melodies, like Beez mentioned, have improved and branching out further than his usual.
With that said, There’s a lot less of the screaming, which will only further the “That’s not Metulz” crew’s trolling. I would have liked more screaming, but yeah, whatever floats your boat.
The lyrics are awful in places, Come on Matt you’re not 12.

Too many ballads for me and it all comes across as a step away from the heavier stuff but you can’t deny the catchiness of the likes of “The Last Fight” and Your Betrayal”.

Not my cup of tea. But that’s just me.

Worst Metal Album of Year.
Horrible, just horrible.
Seriously I will never listen to this band again.

quality album songs are awesome live

CartoonPants

Much like Beez said on the last podcast I don’t see how if people liked The Poison they don’t like Fever. Fever is easily on a par with if not better than The Poison, the ballads might be a bit weaker but the rest of the album is just as heavy and the hooks are catchy and the choruses are huge. Your Betrayal, Fever and Pleasure and Pain have been stuck in my head after just a few listens. I think people who are saying it’s shit when The Poison was good are getting to hung up on other factors such as whether it is cool or not to like Bullet. While The Poison was good I don’t see it as a metal masterpiece and The Fever deserves just as much hype.

The lyrics are dreadful in places, and FAR too ‘emo’ for my liking.

Anyway, musically it’s OK, the first 3 songs are superb and I actually don’t mind Matt’s vocals in those. However like MANY of you have stated, there are stupid amount of ballads on the album… Sure Scream Aim Fire wasn’t great, but at least Waking the Demon wakes everyone the fuck up.

Why on earth have they made an album full of clean vocals when Matt’s voice isn’t up to the standard? For any of you thinking this will be metal album of the year, go and take a listen to Deftones’ Diamond Eyes and appreciate what an album’s structure should be like.

Bullet are one of my favourite bands, however this album i just cant get into, yes its heavy, and got some great bits in it but its just not as gd as the old stuff, i even prefer ’scream aim fire’ to this! I DO NOT like the lyrics in this album, its like pop-grindcore, hes *singing* about how he wants to kill a woman, it just doesnt work, i like your betrayal alot though, and begging for mercy too, (but not the chorus much) also bittersweet memories, purely for the most catchy chorus ever!!!! lol but the rest of it just cant get in to.. :( have to say the piano version of the last fight is better than the real version too!
Shame…

best Bullet album so far in my opinion, it delivers what it promises, not going to go in much deeper, looks like Gill and Beez already have aloot to read…

It’s not as good as The Poison but it is a lot better than the “Scream,Aim,Fire” album. I would, however give it a 6 out of 10.

Sure, its an improvement. The lyrics are a bit too cliche for my liking but the killer riffs on some tracks I think paid for that. The one track that really stood out for me was “Alone”, the singing, drumming, bass lines and especially the tapping intro/solo really made this track shine. Good Job Bullet…Good Job

A good effort from the band but unfortunately im Rather disappointed with it, the last fight the ONLY decent song on it, for me very poppy , too poppy – sorry guys !

It’s a strong album but we all know magazines are being paid off to give the album stellar reviews to hype them up. They are getting major exposure everywhere in all magazines, they want to hit the big time, they have bargained with mags etc. “We will do all these interview photoshoots etc if you give us a good album/live review”. It’s all politics and all bands with a bit of record compnay cash do it.

Anyways…it is a pretty strong album and probably cost them a fair wedge to make, coupled with the gym membership Matt Tuck seems to have subscribed to.

Not sure thay are arena bound yet but could easily do 2-3 nights each at Brixton/Manc Appollo/Bham Academy etc.

well, I thought Your Betrayal was an epic tune, been stuck in my head all day. But… well… I listened to the album a couple of times, but I only really listen to Your Betrayal, rest of the album didn’t really grab me. To be honest I listened to it more out of nostalgia, they were sort of a gateway band to metal for me.

I’d say as an album, it’s an improvement on Scream, Aim, Fire, but it doesn’t quite match up to the might of The Poison.

They seem to have followed the same sort of path Trivium did i.e promising EP/first album (Self titled/Ember To Inferno); AMAZING first album proper (The Poison/Ascendancy); very hyped but ultimately unclimatic follow up album (SAF/The Crusade); yet a redeeming follw up to that (Fever/Shogun) if you catch my drift.

Well im a massive bullet fan, camped for 31 hours to make sure i got to the free gig , and it was really good i thought. The album is very catchy, and with some real belters, im dissapointed with the lack of solos, but there are some killer riffs. I like it more than scream aim fire but as a guitarist i will have much less fun with fever as its not as technical and lacking solos/riffs

I feel like it’s a bit different than the rest, but that’s what makes it amazing. It’s still as good as their previous two albums. The vocals have improved clearly, you can hear that espicially on Pretty On the Outside. That’s just my opinion, but the album DEFENITLY doesn’t “suck”.

it sounds like an album that kerrang! would love and metal hammer would say is alright… and considering kerrang! these days mostly covers pop/punk/trendy metal then thats saying a lot.

Was never a bullet fan before, wouldn’t class myself as one even now but you can’t deny this Album is metal as fuck. AS FUCK! Good tunes from start to finish, Matt may be a prick but this pricks got talent. Three cheers for British metal!!!!!

Getting softer every release, please stop calling this metal its pop music with heavy guitars!!!!!!!

I’m in agreement with Beez that the first three songs are amongst the best stuff BFMV have released, but the rest of the album falls away drastically after that. The vocals are still the weak link on the album and Matt Tuck is a dreadful, dreadful lyricist but there is probably more “right” with this album than with any previous Bullet release.

Still not a fan though.

I’ll say straight up that I was never a BFMV fan.

However, being the open minded person that I like to hope I am, I checked out their page when they were streaming the new album.

I have to say I was impressed (& yes I was drinking at the time).

A week later I came across the album in a store & I decided to bite the bullet (no pun intended) & I’ve listened to it right through about 4x now and I’ve gotta tell you, this album is FUCKING AWESOME!

The song structure, the lyrics, the vocal & dear god, the RIFFS!

I honestly don’t understand why this band can generate such hatred from some people.
Anyone who would call themselves a music fan would have to admit that these guys are seriously talented, even if you don’t like the band themselves!

I’m converted! :)

Not a heavy metal masterpiece like Puppets or Powerslave, but Bullet are a decent band and Fever is a decent album. Next time they should make an album thats less emo, more metal though. They could be a bit more creative with the lyrics if they worked on them. Again they are good, but they could be better.
