Its a disgrace that Nuno is playing pop when he is such an amazing guitarist. Also for simoninflames to say extreme are shit, youve obviously never seen them live. Nuno is awesome on stage and the band are faultless. I do agree that this is not a metal hammer story though.

To me bands like Extreme don’t rock less hard, they’re just not alternative = less attractive sound against a general audience = different = minority appeal. Bands like Extreme have a fuller sound which rocks twice as hard to my ears. Reading most reactions on this article I understand most people currently frequenting this site are mostly into Alternative and that sort of thing. Understandable: that’s how the industry presented itself in the last 2 decades. To each their own so respect for that, different elements appeal to different people. However: The commercial purpose was creating a Pop Rap industry. Taking the Pop aspect from Rock and give it to Hip Hop. So Hip Pop was created. In order to test different markets, and find out what sells and what not. Just like they always do.

For Rock music to be commerical = popular again it must be mixed with Pop. Pop = popular = mass appeal. It only means art of sound that’s considered a pleasure to the listening ear. I don’t need bubblegum either, they would have to level up the lyrics just the same, but mix it with melodic art. Without it only Alternative exists. And I have to say I’m not a fan of that either as it means minimal production and tuneless sound. Like Hip Pop is tuneless just the same. It’s only the marketing that makes it sell to its minority group.

Either way: Hip Pop: Soulless R&B with Pop music sensibilities and Rap music beats is going out. Sales are going zero and commercial music doesn’t sell as basically nobody’s buying. US sales are down every week. So something else is very necessary, more than ever I’d say.

What they should do is come to an agreement for everyone. Building a sound that consists of elements appealing to all. Hard Rock with melodic art and deep lyrical content sounds like a solution to me. Market it back with an appealing image and we have a deal. Something that I like, something that you like which of course automatically results in something that sells. Everybody happy. Way I see it.
