Road To Download 2013: Coal Chamber
Download Festival 2013 is finally just around the corner, so we’re grabbing some of the biggest and best bands from this year’s lineup to throw some irreverent bollocks at. Not literally. That’d be insane. Today, we chat to Dez Fafara as he prepares to return with Coal Chamber!
How many times have you been to Donington?
“I’m going to say seven. It’s definitely not any less than that. Over the whole career it might be more than that. I just don’t know off the top of my head!”
What’s your favourite Donington memory?
“When we played in the tent with Devildriver and we set the record for the biggest circle pit, that was an amazing moment. And when Jonathan Davis got airlifted out and everyone got up to sing Korn songs and I did two with them. That was immense.”
What are you most looking forward to about Download this year?
“Bringing Coal Chamber back to the UK is a massive deal. It’s the perfect starting point for us, especially if we’re going to come back and do some more shows.”
Which other bands on the bill are you excited about seeing?
“I haven’t even thought about it! I’ll be sitting side stage to watch Rammstein, I hope, and if I can check out Satyricon I definitely will. They’re one of my favourite bands.”
What can we expect from your set at Download this year?
“We’ve been really tight so there’ll be a lot of energy. We can fit in as many songs as possible and all the ones that people are really familiar with. What you’re gonna get is Coal Chamber at 110 per cent. At the end of our career that wasn’t where we are, so this time you’ll get Coal Chamber proper!”
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever seen at a festival?
“People camping in feet of mud with porta-potty pits running in between their tents. Unbelievable. Some people pick the worst locations to pitch a tent!”
If you were only allowed to pack five things, what would you take to Download?
“I’d take sunscreen, water, beer, some food and I would take either a tent or a sleeping bag. If I have to choose between those I’ll take a tent because someone will help me out!”
