Road To Download: Dragonforce
Every weekday, we’ll be bringing you an exclusive Download interview with a band on this year’s monolithic bill. Today, it’s time to feel the force. The Dragonforce! Get your Download tickets!
We caught up with Dragonforce’s Frédéric Leclercq to chat about all things Donington. Catch Dragonforce on the mainstage on Saturday, June 13th.
How much are you looking forward to playing this year’s Download?
Frédéric Leclercq: Oh, a lot!! The bill is fantastic, so it’s an honour just to be part of it. I mean, just the fact that Faith No More is playing is good enough for me, but on top of that; Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Slipknot, Whitesnake, Journey, Lacuna Coil, DevilDriver… the list goes on and on…it’s amazing! And on a personal note, I have a lot of friends playing there so there’s gonna be a hell of a party for sure!! I hurt just thinking about it.
Have you played before and if so what’s your greatest memory?
Frédéric: It will be our 3rd time this year. Greatest memory, well…playing in front of 70,000 people is something that’s hard to describe but that’s probably my greatest thing. Other than that….does ‘spending the night partying A STUPID LOT, sleeping approximately 8 minutes, doing some interviews, feeling shite and sleeping 14 hours straight, therefore missing Motley Crue and being bummed out’ count as a 2nd greatest memory? :)
Do you have any surprises or plans?
Frédéric: Well, we’re gonna play properly. At least, we’re gonna try! That’ll be a surprise! Seriously, I don’t really know as we haven’t discussed it yet. We just got back from tour and right now I’m trying to stay away from any kind of organization/travel/gig-related things. Oh, I might try to play sober. Now, that would be another surprise.
What’s the pros and cons to playing a festival set?
Frédéric: The cons first: Less time to work on your sound (no soundcheck), which sometimes means bad surprises when you hit the stage. Less time spent on stage, so you have to shorten your set, but this is also a good thing because then you’re less tired and can go party quicker! Finally, playing in front of a different audience is hard sometimes, but it’s also challenging so that’s not a real problem.
Pros: Loooooots of people, looooooots of other bands, hence loooooooots of laughs and booze J
Describe why people should come and see your set in 5 words.
Frédéric: Beer-party-metal- music-yeah… or somethin’ like that.
Download will take place on June 12th – 14th at Donington and will feature sets from Faith No More, Slipknot, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, The Prodigy, Limp Bizkit, Motley Crue, Marilyn Manson, Korn, ZZ Top, Down, Killswitch Engage, Journey, Clutch and many, many more.
