Scott Ian: “Anthrax Have Never Let Anyone Down In 26 Years”
Quite the quote from the Anthrax guitarist, don’t you think? Get your Sonisphere tickets here!
Germany’s Metal Hammer have conducted an interview with Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, where he had the following to say about the state of Anthrax in 2010:
“I don’t think people should worry so much about what’s going on in the band.
“I understand being a fan and I understand loving a band and being dedicated to a band, ’cause I’m a huge fan of many bands. But I don’t have any control over whether or not Faith No More’s gonna make a new record. I want Faith No More to make a new record, but I can’t control that, [so] I don’t worry about it. There’s bigger things to worry about in life. So if you’re a fan of the band and you like what we do, just have faith that eventually we’re gonna make a record and it’s gonna be a great record.
“I don’t think we’ve ever let anyone down in the last 26 years of making records and touring. Yes, I understand it’s taken us a while to get to a new album, because we’ve been through some crazy circumstances, but that’s just the set of circumstances we’re in, and there’s no reason for us to rush anything. That would be the biggest mistake, ’cause if we rush something now, then we risk putting something bad, and then the fans would really be upset.”
What do we think? Do you feel let down by Anthrax over the last few years or do you agree with Scott’s comments above?
Thanks to Blabbermouth for the transcription.

I think his points are fair enough, however that particular quote is gonna get misused alot.
They have never let us down. They have been through so many hard times and yet they are still here and playing killers shows on top of that.
Can’t wait for the new album and I’m stoked Joey is back!
Cheers Anthrax – long live your awesome thrash \m/
Does anybody care anymore?
10 years ago I did, but not in 2010 and not with Belladonna.
Haha Anthrax have 2 fans: pre bush fans, original fans that is, and the teeny boppers who wouldn’t know good thrash to save their nickleback lovin arses
@ Trent:
I think you’re right – they only have about 2 fans left. The rest of us moved on long ago.
Just because pre Bush is the original lineup (I assume you are refering to Neil Turbin – check your history – Belladonna isn’t Anthrax’s first and therefore original vocalist), doesn’t mean it’s the best either. Listen to The Better of Two Evils and tell me it doesn’t piss all over the “original” versions. Then again, I guess you think they became shit and sold out after their first demo.
Anthrax owned at Sonisphere last year. I’ve seen them 9 times in total and have been blown away every time. And they will show all the younger bands how it’s done again at Sonny this year. Wait and see.
$cott’s completely right, Anthrax have not let anyone down in 26 years. Not Neil Turbin, not Dan Lilker, not Joey Belladonna (twice), not Rob Caggiano and certainly not John Bush.
Just like Gordon Brown didn’t let the country down when he was PM.
I’ve not laughed so much in ages!!!
Bushthrax for life…you can keep Spreading The Disease, Among The Living and POT because as mentioned by Shane, The Greater Of Two Evils pisses over Belladonna’s originals!!!
@ Trent. Ive been listening to this music since before you were propably born mate and I was there the 1st time Thrash was even mentioned let alone played by any of the big four or otherwise and yet I still prefered Anthrax with John Bush so what you are saying is just plain Ignorant Stupidity.
If you are too close minded to just listen to one form of Metal then good for you but dont paint all of us with the same brush, what are you, ten years old or what?
Anthrax has always been the “special” band when it comes to the big four… Still “among the living” is awesome thrash… so yeah…
I don’t feel let down. That would be like saying that I feel let down by my best mate marrying the girl I wanted him to marry. That would be ridiculous.
I do feel disappointed though. I’d loved to have heard another album and attended another show with John Bush on vocals. That said, I am looking forward to hearing what the new material with Joey will sound like.
Shane I am a massive Bush fan as well ( blown away at Sonisphere) he will be missed, I’m sick of all comments from ppl (on the net in general) bagging 1 or the other singers when they don’t know the whole range. as long as they are playing with either singer, I am a happy camper, Besides, I didn’t think you cared dude, Good to see your back
they’ve let me down… got rid of Bush and reunited with Belladonna… got rid of Dan, delayed new album, reunited with Bush then got rid of him and reunited with Belladonna AGAIN!
I agree there are more important things in life to worry about, and I ain’t losing sleep over the future of Anthrax coz quite frankly if their new album is anything less than mind blowing (and I fail to see how with Belladonna as the vocalist) then Anthrax will finally just no longer matter.
They made a mistake when they got rid of Belladonna, though im glad hes now back in the band : D another mistake was bring the noise, adter that many more r&b artists came about, even Ian said he made a mistake. Im also sick of the post Belladonna period, the Bush followers dont know good thrash metal for shit
I’m not saying I’m disappointed in the fact that Belladonna’s back, but I would have preferred to have seen Bush to be honest, I just have a feeling I might be let down by Belldonna, plus they won’t play anything from We’ve Come For You All.
But still, bring on Sonisphere, and hopefully a new album, unless the inevitable happens and the cycle of vocalists continues.
we’ll decide whos better after this years sonisphere, I like them both. And Anthrax havnt let anyone down, Theyve just made me a bit angry and dissapointed at times by changing their singer all the time. I actually liked Dan Nelson aswell
@ Mark, I am a Pro Bush fan, in fact I think the band is a 1000 times better with him than Belladonna. Yet I am an Anthrax fan who grew up listening to the Belladonna years (and I know my Thrash thank you) and was gutted the first time he left BUT Bush is a better singer, the Belladonna reunion show I saw at Download a few years back was cringe inducing and made me ashamed to be a fan. But then I hear amazing things about Dan Nelson who left/got fired, followed up but a mighty return of Bush at Sonisphere last year but this was short lived.
this new reunion gives me no hope in the future of this band but what does piss me off is there are vids of Scott Ian saying that last years Sonisphere show was the best he has done, the reunion with Belladonna didnt work out but now they are all it wasn’t the right time etc etc
I want Anthrax to succeed but I don’t believe in them any more
Scott Ian seemed to have a real problem with Belladonna towards the end of his first stint with band claiming his vocals didn’t fit anymore and his lack of understanding of what the band needed from him and his inability to change. So after all these years what has changed with Belladonna that he can now deliver ? Answer nothing Anthrax have settled for second best as they dare not take anymore chances after Dan Nelson which is a real shame. Bush was the man for the job all along and they blew it.
Here come the tween “mainstreem” rock fans…
I’m glad that Belladonna is back, Bush is good (or WAS depending on opinions) in Armoured Saint, but Bushthrax never convinced me…
Sorry but try comparing Madhouse and I Am The Law to the drab and Nickleback-esque Antisocial and Safe Home (fuck that song makes me puke…)
@ Trent, thank fuck someone who appreciates the amazing force that Anthrax were…
Keep posting stuff like this i really like it
Said it before, i´m from pre-thrash days and i remember when it broke. I´ll always be a Belladonna fan but i don´t think anyone can disagree that Bush is the better singer. I think it´s down to eras and not talents who you prefer.
