I’m so looking forward to seeing everyone bitch… I actually quite like it. The thing is, Fergie sounds like Axl minus the annoying naselness.

Laurel Ashley

I want to hate it i really really do but then again …..

Jacob Palmer

Its absolutely horrible, Slash has just ruined one of his best tunes.

Laurence

Fergie has done a good job on this and I think the beats with the guitar have updated this song a good bit, gives it almost a rage against the machine feel to it.

On the otherhand I’m not sure about the rap parts, I think if they got a more aggressive rapper like Busta Rhymes this could have been a great cover…. overall this could have been an absolute disaster, I think they have just about pulled it off.

Still if I thought to myself, I really wanna listen to Paradise City, this is not the version I’d go for to be honest.

There’s good cover’s then there’s original brilliance.

All in all though good work from slash, kinda want to here what original stuff he can come up with though (hopefully not slash’s snakepit sounding stuff, that was gash).

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm……..no…………..slash still sounds great, fergie sounds a little bit like axl, cypress hill ruins it for me…………but it could have been a lot worse, instrumentation sounds very audioslave……….personally as a gnr fan i wouldnt buy it lets put it that way

Laurence – I reckon someone like DMX would’ve been a better choice, Busta is a bit too comedic? Anyway, let’s stop talking about rappers before we get hunted down…

TheSaint

It is difficult not to like any version of this song, however on this occasion Slash you have well and truely sold it. What a shame.

Laimonas

I just love fergies voice. It fits here perfectly. But that rapper guy is from the wrong opera i think..My opinion: kick out that rapper dude and you will have perfect song!

Fergie nails it. Thought it was Axl at first, but she’s great. A real screamer as Slash said.

Fergie, like Jada Pinkett-Smith should stick to what they know instead of trying to be “rock”. Plus Slash is a has been turned sell-out, period.

Laurence

@me –

Yea DMX would have been perfect, but as you said, no more talkies of rapping.

@rob

Have it occured to you she probably grew up listening to that song, so when Slash came a knocking to ask her to provide vocals for it, she was going to turn it down? think not.

Just because she sings for a pop act dosn’t mean she can’t like heavier music. sometimes I think ppl a a bit too quick to judge someone on the basis of their past alone. Personally I think Fergie has done the song and herself justice.

I really really want to hate this, but ive got to say its not that bad and will grow.

i do like fergies vocals

The QMeister

Spoilt the fucking song with that rapper in there, Fergie isn’t bad though. Still an abomination. Also @Rob I agree with your comment about Slash, I never expected this from him, let’s hope he hasn’t decided to slaughter any other GnR classics, especially Sweet Child. I wish I’d been born twenty years earlier could have seen original GnR in all their glory.

Snakepit

Ah dude slash is playing with someone who doesnt normally sing rock, he’s such a sell out blah blah blah.

Shuddup!

Slash is a musician, hes making new music with new musicians. So he’s trying different things that arnt his normal style…
Whats wrong with that?

Thats what this album is about! Mixing styles and trying new things.
Slash is trying something new and calling him a ‘has been’ because he deviates from the narrow bracket of your musical taste is unfair.

What would you rather him do,
Punt around churning out GnR classics?
Or actually get off his arse and make new music?

Where is the love guys?

Dave Nicholls

I don’t think it’s that bad apart from the horrible drum loop which is way too high in the mix early on…..other than that…..not as bad as I expected!

ok. here goes. fingers crossed!

Ok. I should prob listen a few more times to be sure but fuck it. Her vocals are good. I already knew she could sing but she did alright here. With Slash, he hasn’t done anything in ages thats been any good. Outside GnR he seems unable to perform. I like Cypress. They are one of my ‘guilty pleasures’ i suppose, but i dont like their presence in this. I dont see why anyone would listen to this instead of the original other than like us, now, in sheer morbid curiosity. I dont like it. Im not making statements about selling out or that shit, just trying to be objective, and of course, why would fergie say no to working with slash? who would? cant blame her. Slash, very disappointed with you! UNLESS, maybe this was done to piss of axel. In which case, I LOVE IT! Haha!

Fergie did a good job the rap parts make me want to die

Moshtank

it sounds like rage aginsnt the machine…. sorta i hope the rest of the album isnt like that but it was ok i guess

Good stuff, apart from the rap, fergie was awesome, wasnt expecting that

wht the hell ok fergie wasnt amazingly bad but rapping destroyed it

Ass4ssin

i am actually more looking forwards to a comment from axl and him trying to sue Slash. this song is good but a tad bit too slow for my liking.

Rap has no place in that song ever.

Fergie was awesome. I seriously though that it was Axl at first. Not a joke.

Paul Hawkins

This thing is actually awesome! And anyway…Slash is a bait genius! If he wants to work with fergie…which works…then he can! Oh…& dont forget shes bare fit!

Anyone else think that if Axl had done this instead of Slash that he would have been ripped to shreds by GNR fans.

laura s

why do i like this

Laura S – because you have an open mind? :)

i really love this, actually i love anything slash does, i prefer fergie’s vocals over axels nasel sounds anyday.

as slash said in his book he likes playing different genres of music and dosent like being restricted into one genre cos it gets boring after a while. read his book for a better explanation and as a guitar player myself i understand that completely.

i think people who listen to just metal and nothing else are missing out on good music that you just have to look for to find it. i also think they are quite narrow minded when it comes to music.

argh i hate it when artists do stuff like this…it’s like marty friedmans spin on tornado of souls. It was good before and now it just feels wrong.

‘Me’, thankyou. I like it… sorta. But people who dislike it just because its not like the original need to think a little. It’s not MEANT to be like the original – they’re just taking the concept, and creating a song for a completely different genre, for a completely different fan base to Guns N’ Roses.

Also, as for the people who say Slash is selling out… maybe he just likes to try different stuff??

but emma, nobody here has really slated it. not badly anyway. you are right, i love listening to all sorts of music (listening to damien rice right now but i also have an 8 or 9 inch slipknot tat on my back) and i find it very rewarding but i see this argument on here all the time and it gets boring, but this time i dont really see that these metal fans are being narrow minded. most are actually praising fergie who has no metal credibility. i was quite suprised. i dont mean to disrespect you or anything, but your message just seemed a little random or misplaced is all.

hmmm i dunno… its a rarity that a remake/cover is better than the original… this might take a few listens to like, especially if it gets plugged in on kerrang radio & radio 1….

Too quick to judge?
I don’t care about her past, I honestly think this is a pathetic cover of a good song, I wouldn’t have minded if it was Sweet Child as that was poor in the first place.
Slash can do whatever he wants with anyone else except for stealing material from a band he was kicked out of mixed with singers more in the public eye to make money, that equals sell-out no matter what you try to say.
the icing on the cake is that Slash can’t even be arsed to play properly anymore, live especially. I’ve seen bands down my local make less mistakes than he did when playing for VR.

ehat the fucking hell is this, i was raised on GNR, i cryed when they split up and now this! why slash why? ipreffered leemy and dave doing stand by me, now that was a fucking cover and a half.

scott sumner

what tha f*k.

has slash lost the plot, is he skint?

from Velvet Revolver to this, please Scott go back to VR and save slash………..

scott sumner

Laurence,

sounds like rage against the machine.

Not sure which is more offensive, the song or your comment

Laurence

@ Scott

I think it does have a slight rage tempo/riff part going on there when the main riff kicks in… When i Listened to it, as soon as that main riff kicked in, Rage immediatley popped into my head. not sure if anyone else was the same but just what I felt when listening to it.

Regarding selling out, I personally dont think there is such as thing as selling out, for as long as I was growing up (early ninetines) only way to get the music I wanted was to buy it on cd’s. So for me, music has always had a price attached to it. sure some bands give their stuff away for free (NIN, radiohead etc) they only done this after many albums and tours… Music is a buisness, simple. Slash has made millions from GNR + VR, why would he not continue this?

mikethegerman

I agree that Fergie actually does do a good job on the song but like with some films, some things should just be left well alone.

Then again, Slash wrote or co wrote that song so he can basically do with it what he wants, play it live in that version etc but to release it officially wouldnd be such a good Idea. Thats just me though, everyone has different tastes…

The thing that could have really redeemed this was if the original Slash lyric “Take me home to paradise city where the girls are fat and they have big titties” had been included.

I am very open to cover versions. I love a lot of them. I despise others, like Madonna’s “American Pie”. Sorry, Slash – but this is just fucking awful.

I like happened to like Axels vocals, whiny nasally and annoying as they where. I think they should have left the song alone but what bugs me is why the hell is everybody complimenting Fergie, SHE IS A SINGER she should be able to sing anything. come on the songs not that difficult. And she doesnt do anything amazing either. She pretty much sounds like she does on anything she sings.
