Slash Reveals His Favourite Metallica Riff
Slash picks an under-appreciated Metallica classic amongst his favourite riffs of all time, but which one?
Slash has revealed that ‘Disposable Heroes’ from ‘Master Of Puppets’ is his favourite Metallica riff of all time.
“This one’s off of Master of Puppets, which is the ultimate Metallica album of all time,” Slash told Paste. “I love the rhythm and timing on this one, and it’s got a real sinister drive to it, too. Like you just know something bad’s about to happen.”
Slash’s top 10 guitar riffs of all time are:
1. ‘Black Dog’ – Led Zeppelin
2. ‘Over Under Sideways Down’- The Yardbirds
3. ‘Purple Haze’ – Jimi Hendrix
4. ‘More of that Jazz’ – Queen
5. ‘Life in the Fast Lane’ – The Eagles
6. ‘Disposable Heroes’ – Metallica
7. ‘Superstition’ – Jeff Beck
8. ‘Show Your Love’ – Van Halen
9. ‘Back in the Saddle’ – Aerosmith
10. ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ – The Beatles

Life In The Fast Lane is not a good Eagles song. It’s probably the worst on “Hotel California”.
Fail on some song titles there.
Van Halen – “Show Your Love” should be called “I’m The One”
Jeff Beck – “Superstition” should be called “I Ain’t Superstitious”
Good list though.
DISPOSABLE HEROES!!!
DAMN STRAIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats a wicked metallica song i love the chimaira cover of it aswell.. my favourite song has to be the unforgiven though.. it kicks ass>>
aye, disposable heros is a good riffy song. I’m not sure i could name a favourite metallica riff though, theres so many. Wherever I may Roam is definately up there mind
It should’ve been “Master Of Puppets”!!!
You Will Do What I Say, When I Say, BACK TO THE FRONT!
Disposable Heroes is an awesome live song. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them play it twice.
The real question is can Slash play Disposable Heroes? I bet the answer is NO! Slash is the most over rated player in the world. I remember when Guns and Roses first appeared on the scene. I knew then that that was the end of good Metal! Guitar greats like Jake E Lee, George Lynch and Warren DeMartini who cloud play the newer guys under the table have been forgotten. Oh Well, we have their memories.
BACK TO THE FRONT!!! Disposable Heroes is the best Metallica song of all time. Yes even better then songs such as Seek & Destroy, Creeping Death, Master of Puppets, One and Enter Sandman.
I suppose you’re better than Slash are you Zak?…
Yeah, but there are many ‘riffs’ in Disposable Heroes. Which one in particular does he favour?
The best Metallica riff has to be the opener from Whiplash…without that, who knows whether we’d be where we are today.
good to see led zep and the yardbirds at the top, surprised no rolling stones though, slash may not be as good as jimmy page and keith richards, but he’s still good
