Slayer’s Kerry King Says Dimebag Made Him Want To Play Better

terrybezer / News / 08/07/2009 12:26pm

slayer90In a new video interview posted by the band Slayer’s king revealed that he had the late Dimebag Darrell’s guitar in the studio and it inspired him to improve his lead playing.

Kerry said: “Not that I’m going to fill Dime’s shoes because nobody can do that, but I paid more attention to my leads while recording this album. I wanted to make them more memorable in memory of Dime.”

Check out our 12 facts about the ‘World Painted Blood’.

Kerry’s words come a day after the band released details of the recording process for ‘World Painted Blood’ with producer Greg Fidelman via another video. Unusually the band has written all of the material in the studio, as opposed to their usual process of writing all the songs beforehand.

Drummer Dave Lombardo has said the album compares to the classics.

Plans for a merchandised a range of Dulux paint in ‘Slayer Blood Read’ are unconfirmed.

Why does everyone wack off to Dime nowadays. He wasn’t even that good on guitar, plus he was in several shit bands. If Kerry said something like Paul Masvidal made me want to play better id believe him because Paul is amazing but Dime was just average.

Oh piss off Kris. Why the personal attacks on a dead man? Youre a wanker through and through.

I AGREE WITH Diablo
DIMEBAG WAS PRETTY GOOOD
EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HARDLY HEARD HIS STUFF

Thanx dude! At least theres a few people left with some decent taste!! \m/

Bagstar

dimebag was a living legend, he was an insperation to all…he died doing what he loved best…rocking out

Why is giving an opinion on a musicians talent such a bad thing? It annoys me when people like Diablo act like any kind of negative view on his music is unacceptable because he’s dead. So what? Grow up and accept that people have other opinions to your own.

music fan

Dobo you twat. Masvidal better? In terms of technicality this is correct, but Dime was a fantastic guitarist and his music will continue to inspire thousands. Playing a million notes a minute does not make you a superior artist. You are missing the point.

I’ve played guitar over a decade and i cant get close to dimebags leads. Might just be that i generaly suck though…

As for King, well along with Zack Wyld he was a very good friend of the man.

I don’t think people would react so badly if Kris wasn’t CONSTANTLY playing the part of the troll and attacking Dimebag when his name’s mentioned. Some of us enjoyed Dimebag’s music, he was a good guitar player. That isn’t just because he’s dead, it’s because it’s TRUE!

P.S. Paul Masvidal is little more than an accomplished practitioner of scales with no sense of melody :D

P.P.S. Apologies to Cynic fans

Kris Dobo

Jack6717 – Thanks, regardless if you agree or not

Diablo – Stop crying, hes dead so what. Doesnt make any difference

music fan – I agree that technicallity isnt always better but what Dime did was nothing intresting. Boring arse groove riffs and boring solos.

Colm – I attack Dime because im sick of everyone thinking you have to worship him or like Pantera to be metal. It was never like that in the 90’s, no gave a fuck. Plus i just dont think he desevered the hype.

Just opinions guys, calm down :)

Dobo, if u disliked Dimes playing, which I would believe ur in the minority, then why did u feel the need to say it on a dime related article? Could u not have ignored it? I mean I don lik power metal such as firewind, jag panzer etc, so i merely ignore them instead of bashing them, causes much less stupid arguments and it means more time wit bands i actually like.

it better be BETTER like 80’s

Dimebag is one of the very best, don’t like that? piss off, Tony Iommi’s moustache will take revenge for me

Sam Ellis - Thompson

Kris Dobo. You are a fag.
Metalhammer, please arrange a face to face meeting between this noob and Zakk Wylde/Kerry King.

Check it out.

Kris, i aint cryin. Just wondered why u were attacking a much loved (and missed) guitarist. And im sorry but every metalhead i met in the 90s liked Pantera (and most still do!) so it proves you dont know what youre talking about!

kris man ur a leach slaggin a dead man off who ment so much to millions of fans y do u lyk jus playin the dick on here y cant u keep of metal hammer and keep ur shit opinions 2 urself!

empireofrepine

look i dont even listen to cynic and i heard them a few moments ago..i hated it. that guy is a good guitarist but i dont like them at all. well me and these other guys(cant be fucking bothered for the names) like pantera and have been inspired greatly by dime and the co’s music..let me clear one thing i know that dime’s solos werent so “OMG so fast wows” or “technicals woo” but it reached out to me and cynic fans might feel the same..to me its about the melody and the feelings put forth in the music whether it is psycopathic brutality or heart crunching assonance. bdw its all that matters isnt it?

p.s dime was really and i stress on REALLY a man with a warm soul and a man of presence. its obvious that he is missed as a human being or a friend as he is missed musically.

I agree with the opinion that everyone “whacks off to Dime”. I understand he was a great guitar player, and it was a tragedy, but this is getting out of hand. Yes, these fellow musicians do miss him, as do many fans, but does that mean that we have to dedicate each album released since to him? Nobody was dedicating anything to him before he died.

empireofrepine

yeah but you miss someone after they are dead…but its true it is getting out of hand…even trivium dedicated it to him. maybe he was just like “micheal jackson” of metal.

“Michael Jackson of metal”, Are you for real???? Cheers, youve just given more fuel to that knobend Kris to use to piss on Dimes memory.

empireofrepine

hey fucktard did i mean him as being a hat wearing child molesting global pop superstar??
NO.
i was comparing them to the grave effect they had on the people who listened to their music.

haggard

diablo is a cocksucker so is dobo and empire

lol micheal jackson of metal. nice one

So…anyone here remember Chuck Schuldiner?

“Fucktard”? How childish. Wasnt attacking you.

empireofrepine

“Cheers, youve just given more fuel to that knobend Kris to use to piss on Dimes memory.”
your stupidity and arrogance is indeed an attack to both of the “dead guys”.
Schuldiner was a legend..
sound of perseverance one of my most favorite albums.

I think, that people here, instead of crossing words with each other it’s more easy compare what Pantera became with Death. My opinion is that both bands were great, but Dimebag was a social guy, he has so many friends in music world and if guys like Zakk Wylde, Kerry King and much more are inspired in Dimebag style to do new stuff they have right to do that, it’s called democracy, so Kris Dobo you have to think before you speak, you have the right to have your opinion so this musicians too.
Best regards

Dan, people dedicate things to people as sign of appreciation, love and in some cases influence…I mean you don’t really dedicate anything to anyone when their still alive…it’s more of a thing you do for someone when they have passed on.

There hasn’t been that many albums dedicate to him really, it’s mainly just songs…which you think bands would have done if they new him/loved him.

if people have anything to say about Dimebag, i have nothing to say them. he was an excellent guitar player

i think it’s awesome Kerry was inspired by dimebag, this should be an amazing album they come out with

metalrules!!!!!

dimebag was amazing
the best thing about him was that he had a style of playing that was so different to anyone else, like tom morello from rage against the machine. he came up with all these incredible sounds and riffs.
i think every metal guitarist should listen to and be inspired by him

DOBO AND DIABLO ARE WANKERS DIMEBAG FUCKIN ROCKED HOW HAVE YOU GOT THE BOLLOCKS TO SAY PANTERA WHERE SHIT BOTH OF YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO METAL R.I.P DIMEBAG A TRUE LEGEND

akaname guitarist

dime was the straw that broke the camels back…for me……. I mean, as a young kid, I loved slash and iommi and brian may and hendrix and jimi page…….their tone, playing and INTENT was so beautiful… but it was dime who made me take the next step. I loved everything he did and still do..

I cried last week when I realized it was the anniversary of his death.

I dont care what any of you think or say because in my heart, he is still with me. the arguing and hating and bickering by you guys is just so sad and upsetting…… dont fight over a person who gave us his best… it is our love of not only heavy music, but music itself that binds us together as ‘metal brothers and sisters’…it matters not who anyone thinks is bettter or whatever…. what counts is our love of ourselves, our world, our minds and each other.

hate harms the hater more than it harms the hated….

in the words of bob marley “who feels it, knows it !”

dont fight to impress your opinions on another, just use the cloesed-minded-ness and spiteful words to cultivate your tolerance and patience and remember that we are all in this together.

‘akaname’ is my band, dimebag is my man and I hope that you feel where I am coming from:
united we stand, divided we fall.

rip dime, chuck and jimi.
