Slayer Forced To Cancel Show
Tom Araya blows out his voice down under.
Slayer frontman Tom Araya was forced to cancel this Sunday’s show in Adelaide, Australia after continuing throat problems rendered him barely unable to speak.
The problems had begun on Saturday night in Melbourne, Australia (where the band are currently on tour with Megadeth), Araya was unable to speak onstage, let alone sing. He had tried to coax crowd members into taking the mic with Contrive frontman Paul Haug finally making his way onto the stage to join Slayer for ‘Dead Skin Mask’. Footage of this can be found here, courtesy of Blabbermouth.
As it would happen, Slayer were on the way to Adelaide to perform the next show before Tom was informed that he was suffering from sever laryngitis and Slayer were forced to cancel the date due to doctor-mandated rest for Araya.
Dave Mustaine has commented on the situation, saying: “I was saddened to hear that Tom Araya won’t be able to perform (Sunday night), as you know, and that they are going to proceed to Perth to wait for us and the last show here in Australia.
“I wanted to be as gracious and considerate of the circumstances as possible, so yesterday I sent an invitation to Kerry King to come up and play a song from back when he played with us in the early days.
“I know that it would require him coming here to Adelaide, and that the band has already decided to proceed to Perth, but I sent the invite yesterday, and I was really hoping that we could do something for the fans of Adelaide and so that the Slayer fans could at least see their hero in action; even if it is with us.
“There is still several hours before the show, and I would love to see Kerry walk through the doors and say, ‘Alright, let’s play ‘Rattlehead’!’ However, I think that the time has passed for him to be able to comfortably travel here. I have my fingers crossed though.”
“Thanks for understanding, and we will make the best of it either way.”

Fucking Slaaaaay …
Fucking Slaaaaay … cough cough splutter gag
Tom also had the same problem back in 2004. Lets hope he gets well for the UK shows
I missed out on seeing Alice in Chains on my birthday for my slayer ticket. He better be ok for Manchester!
Nice touch, Dave. Just when everyone thinks you’re an arrogant prick you turn around and pull stuff like that out of the hat. Talk about a split personality…
@ Skumbo lol, he is the man that wrote sweating bullets. and also I dont think hes a prick just because he loves himself. But what do i know, im just simple minded metal head.
Why does Dave Mustaine seem smug ALL the time.
It almost feels like he has made this happen, perhaps its a sign that God and the Devil are real, and God is pwning Tom Araya.
But then when Kerry King replies, the Devil wins.
but Dave Lombardo self confirmed Slayer to be playing Soundwave 2010.. which Anthrax has just been confirmed for in the second announcement.. which I am going to
one step closer to the big four tour???
I was at that Melbourne show, Araya sounded soooo sick, he only sang the whole of about 2 songs, as well as bits and pieces of others.
Luckily, by that point, the Sllllllaaaaaaaayyyyeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr psychos in the pit were too drunk to notice and didn’t get nasty hahaha.
Assuming Tom Araya’s voice is the only problem, couldn’t Slayer just play an instrumental set? Surely that’s better than no Slayer at all and the majority of fans would understand.
