Slayer’s Lombardo: “It Compares To The Classics”
Slayer’s Dave Lombardo has been speaking out about the new Slayer album, ‘World Painted Blood’.
Word coming from Slayer’s Dave Lombardo suggests that the new Slayer album could go down as one of the best of the band’s career.
Speaking to Sun Media, Lombardo has said: “I have to say that it compares to the classics — ‘Reign in Blood’, ‘South of Heaven’ and ‘Seasons in the Abyss’. And I wouldn’t say that if I didn’t mean it. (Tom Araya’s) vocal melody and singing approach is very listener-friendly — not in a way where people are going to say, ‘Dude, they went commercial.’ No way. It’s just more melodic.”
“People are scared of the word melody because maybe it sounds like a happy word. But you can have very dark, extreme music with melody. It’s not something to be afraid of. There’s only good music and bad music — and good music has hooks and something to carry you through and entertain you.”
Slayer are about to head out on a Canadian run with Megadeth before co-headlining this summer’s Rockstar Mayhem tour.

If it has anything like (the songs) South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss, i will be a happy bunny.
can`t wait!
Agreed, Merk. Me and a mate were having one of those conversations that can only happen when beer is involved – what’s the greatest Slayer song ever written? Pretty pointless debate, as you can imagine, and there was a lot of arguing going on. But the one thing we did agree on was the fact that we both felt that the “slower” stuff was the best (songs like “South Of Heaven”, “Seasons…”, etc…). The 100mph balls-out stuff is pretty nuclear but for me it’s always going to be the more melodic/groove tunes that rings my bell.
(Slayer and Megadeth touring together?? I’ll have some of that!!)
Seasons has plenty of melody. And it shits all over the rest of their 90s output, so I have no fear.
SSSLLAAAAYYYYUUURRRGGGHHH!!! (Can’t believe no-one has said that yet)
Sweet. I hope it the classic we all want. The only problem is every band says there new album is up there with the old stuff or back to the roots blah blah but they never are. I can only hope they are right.
Im with you there Skumbo. When Slayer do fast they do fast great (Raining Blood anyone?) but then, so do dozens of other bands (most recently been impressed by Eville). What makes Slayer really the top band in ‘heavy’ metal for is writing slow paced, groove laden, evil bastard sounding pieces of music.
I’d love the new album to be up there with Reign and Seasons but I’m not getting carried away. The “new” song they played at Hammy Apollo last year did not impress me at all.
I know it’s not on any of those albums, but I freakin love Gemini and it’s slow melodic groove. That song always reminded me of their older work, if they go that direction I’ll be cool wit it.
FUCKIN’ SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally got the t shirt!! Just thought id let the world know!!!! \m/
i want something EVIL!! heavy, slow, and demonic!!
