Get all the latest on this year’s Sonisphere festival inside!

SONISPHERE FESTIVAL KNEBWORTH boasts exclusive headline appearances from IRON MAIDEN and RAMMSTEIN, plus Friday night headliner ALICE COOPER, IGGY & THE STOOGES, GOOD CHARLOTTE, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, PENDULUM and more – with over 140 bands set to play – many of whom you will only see at KNEBWORTH this summer. With a wealth of musical, comedic and other entertaining talent on offer, plus FREE MUSIC DOWNLOADS for every ticket holder, the £132.50 weekend ticket price – which unlike most festivals carries NO BOOKING FEE – is hands down the best value for money out there.

Now, with less than a month to go SONISPHERE has announced a host of extra attractions, with film, comedy, cabaret and compere additions showcasing the diversity of talent and wealth of entertainment on offer.

Hosting the festival and introducing the awesome bands on the bill will be our three dedicated comperes. Daniel P Carter from the BBC Radio One Rock Show – the biggest Rock Show on the radio, XFM Drivetime and Rock Show presenter Ian Camfield, SKINDRED frontman and all around entertainer Benji Webbe will be the three main compere’s for the weekend, with comedian Andrew O’ Neil filling in the gaps when the others need a break.

SONISPHERE can reveal two more names to add to the host of hilarity at SONISPHERE COMEDY. JIM JEFFERIES, the globally renowned stand up famous for his “Alcoholocaust” will bring his brutal hilarity to Knebworth. Having appeared on “Have I Got News For You”, “Never Mind The Buzzcocks”, and “Big Brother’s Celebrity HiJack” and many more, Jim is already a very familiar face. With his reality based, brutally frank style he’s as likely to shock as to tickle, but whether you like it or not he will have you in stitches.

Joining him will be GLENN WOOL, a regular TV face on programs such as “The World Stands Up”, Comedy Blue, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and many others. The Canadian – now resident in the UK – has made a name for himself with his wide ranging comedy, hopping from the sagely political to the gleefully silly in the space of a performance. Described by the Independent On Sunday as a “cross between Jack Black and Meatloaf”, and hailed by The Guardian as “Effortlessly funny with an affability that other comics can only dream of…”, GLENN comes as a perfect fit for SONISPHERE COMEDY.

SONISPHERE has expanded to 3 days this year, and there’s no better mob to get the party started than BIZARRE magazine, who take over BOHEMIA on the Friday. With host DESMOND O’ CONNOR, BIZARRE have brought with them some of the most fascinating alternative performers out there;

JO PEACOCK will mesmerize all in attendance with incredible costumes that include led light suits & strobe packs that create a highly visual and exciting show as they fly, swivel and rotate above the audience.

CHRISALYS the circus sideshow extraordinaire will astound you with the most painful stunts, a mix of aerial acrobatics and traditional sideshow skills. Human Block Head, Animal Traps, Broken Glass and Fire are but a few of the impalements of torture on display!

ADAM ANARCHY will put on a “Japanese freak show” alongside KITTY DE’LUX and SPYDER with highlights including him ascending a ladder of 3 samurai swords in bare feet, laying on broken glass and the ever popular bed of nails, swinging heavy hammers from his ears, sledge hammering paving stones across his chest, whip cracking balloons, finishing with fire eating and angle grinding.

Extreme black comedy freakshow PARIAH CIRCUS are freakshow assassins and burlesque gimps, a dark and twisted mirror of society’s appetites. They are the razor in the apple, the hypodermic in the playground. They exist to undermine the hypocrisy of suburban sexuality, challenge the conventions of mundane morality and celebrate the liberating beauty of fear and transgression. And they are coming to BOHEMIA to touch you.

Joining the above in BIZARRE BOHEMIA will be THE INBREED BROTHERS & THE GIRL IN THE BOTTLE, avante-garde entertainer and fetish performer THE VIVID ANGEL, drag-queen troupe THE LIPSINKERS, grotesque burlesque from TWISTED CIRQUE, the PYSCHO CLOWNS, fetish and rubber fashionistas PRETTY PERVY and a full size fully functioning fire-breathing robotic horse known as THE FIRE HORSE, with more additions to come.

With on-site action in full force, some may need to take time out to chill and catch a movie, so the CINEMA returns to SONISPHERE this year with great some festival flicks. Keeping with Friday’s theme, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW will be screened alongside vampire movie SUCK – which stars SONISPHERE acts IGGY, HENRY ROLLINS and ALICE COOPER. On Saturday, get warmed up for Sunday night headliners IRON MAIDEN as they make their way through 13 countries in FLIGHT 666, or see Robert Downey Junior kick some serious as Tony Stark in IRON MAN. Sunday screenings will include a repeat of SUCK, plus an intergalactic battle with giant shape-shifting robots in TRANSFORMERS.

Lastly, it is with great delight that we can announce SONISPHERE 2010’s special guests. THE FAB BEATLES are the UK’s premier Beatles tribute group, having performed across the world in a career spanning two decades. Paying tribute to one of the most famous and influential bands in history, their appearance as part of the SONISPHERE cast may seem out of odds, given the heavyweight line-up on offer. However, last year’s special guests BJORN AGAIN impressed everyone in attendance, causing tens of thousands of Metallica fans to sing along to “Gimme Gimme Gimme” and even throwing in a surprise cover of “Enter Sandman”, and we’re certain the Fab Four will be similarly impressive.

Fab Beatles? WIN! :)

For Fucks sake, why waste time on acts like Bootleg Beatles when bands like Down,Overkill,Exodus are touring through Europe.
Reckon more people would wanna see these (at least i hope so) than shite tribute bands, especially when there not even a rock/metal tribute band, for fucks sake.

@Ian

Ermmmmm, That would be The Beatles, the best and most popular rock band in history you would be talking about then, yes?

Quality, it’s less than a month until sonisphere and they’re still making announcements. With Download it was “wait 2 weeks and we’ll make an underwhelming announcement at midnight on a work night”. Sonisphere are just straight to the point, good on em

the Beatles wrote some timeless music which people today still regard in very high esteem.. Yeah they are rock music.. Classic 60s style.. Not heavy at all and appeal to a wide age range.. And as for great feeling party going music is great for big singalong.. Everyone knows the words.. And for those people moaning about having something different on then go and see something else.. Metal is my music of choice but sometimes a change is good and for this reason I am up for this Beatles tribute.. There are many bands on this weekend to satisfy my inner rock demon.. I will also be checking out Mr Minchin and Mr Posehn as they are comedy gold and could so do with a right good laugh..

haha Bjorn again were epic last year… Beatles tribute should be fecking awesome… @Ian.. YAWN!

Whilst The Beedles produced some all time grates, I’m with Ian on this, I’d rather see soem Thrash Domination added to the bill, why do the Japs get all the good stuff?!

Davidian

I wish I could type :(

The Mark of Zur-En-Arrh

Wow, that’s a lot of stuff announced…….. shame none it seems interesting in the slightest….

yeah Lee, they’re great at announcements, just a shame the line-up is shit!

Phantasmagasm

@ Josh not really, Sonisphere’s line-up destroys Downloads this year.

@phantasmagasm: nah i disagree, imo DL was much better, apart from the obvious 2 headliners and a couple of other bands, its a pretty average line-up (thats just what i think)

JIM JEFFRIES RULES!!! WOOOHAHA!

I loathed the idea of Bjorn again last year for the simple reason that even in their day abba were a shity irrelevant band who made shitty irrelevant pop songs. That said, I think the basic concept of having something light-hearted and contrasting in the middle of the bill to break up the metulz is a good idea. There’s no shortage of metal at this fest. One wildcard amongst so many bands is a great idea. Unless you have an extra testical you really shouldn’t need to continuously listen to brutal death metal for the whole 72 hours of the festival. Take a break for gods’ sakes! Then come back refreshed and ready for more.

Unlike abba The Beatles produced actual good music. Also they pretty much singlehandedly opened the doors for every British rock band that followed. Without the Beatles there would have been no Animals, no Kinks, no Who, no Cream, no Zeppelin, no Sabbath… See where I’m going here? Without the Beatles there would be no heavy metal as we know it.

A Josh, Downloads lineup this year was one of the weakest lineups I’ve ever seen them do, seems to me like they blew a lot of money on headliners and the rest of the card suffered immensely.

However Sonisphere’s lineup is amazing, possibly the best lineup I’ve ever seen for the second year running.

The Beatles… oh god…

Personally I would’ve liked Beatallica instead since I don’t like the Beatles but each to his own. It’s not like there’s nothing else to do there. I’m hoping Jim Jeffries & Tim Minchin don’t clash with anyone I want to see

People whining about the Beatles? Oh dear :’)

I’m not convinced- only went last year for MfH and LoG- roll on Bloodstock

JIM JEFFRIES RULES!!! WOOOHAHA!
