Still waiting for the big announcement…
Or maybe they’re bluffing? xD
Mehhh its a sweet offer,, but ive never really been a fan of Guitar Hero games…
I hope this isnt the big announcement lol
download is still offering more and whats not been done before or in the last 7 years of the download festival or other festivals around the UK!
Got ticket ages ago… official website says new customers only!!! What a great way to promote new festival!!!!! Wankers sometimes wonder why taking a chance on this….
I got tickets ages ago too. They did this for Hammerfest- advertised BFMV then after some tickets were sold they pulled out then they started giving tickets away in competitions after we had got them. Hammerfest was really good though but next year its going to mid-March instead of late April unfortunately. Get them hooked- reel them in we must be a load of mugs!!!!!!
Still rather go Download, but I think Download could take a leaf out of the Sonisphere book and try and book a few more bands of the Lamb of God/Machine Head/Mastodon/Anthrax level, rather than shit like Marilyn Manson, Faith No More, Def Leppard, Go Audio or Whitesnake that nobody really likes!!!
Basically, Download would be better off making their bands up what genre they are catering for (metal) and book metal bands, even if it means the headliners aren’t such big names.
Sam – if nobody likes Faith No More, why the hell then have they got a warm up show two days before Download, and then possible Leeds/Reading appearences later this year?! And if Faith No More, Slipknot and Def Leppard aren’t huge names, then I really don’t know what is. Get your facts straight.
Download caters for mainly hard rock and metal, but it is not, and has never been, a metal festival. Unlike Sonisphere, which looks like a Download line-up of old, this year the Download organisers have really got their act together and at least taken a few risks with bands like FNM, Def Leppard, ZZ Top, Journey, etc. At least there’s metal in the vein of Down, Hatebreed, Devildriver, Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens, Voivod, Lawnmower Deth, Trivium, God Forbid, Sylosis, etc. etc.
I know where I’d rather be this year.
Sonisphere have just bummed all of the early adopters right in the a-hole.
I am lucky enough to be going to both festivals. However anyone who suggests that Download’s lineup this year compares to Sonisphere in terms of metal acts (and this is metal hammer not SceneKidKerrang) is kidding themselves. Download has an atmosphere of gathering of the metal clan which makes it worth the trip but apart from Clutch I can see almost no reason to stay for Sunday. Yeah I recognize the historical contribution of bands like ZZTop to Faith No More even without Jim Martin but give me likes of Lamb Of God, Mastodon and old timers like Machine Head and Tallica who have both released credible and noteworthy music of this moment . Bottom line is Download should be the festival home of Metal in the UK last year was a joke and its my humble opinion that the organizers have not got their act together this time round.
