Sonisphere Organizer: “Major Line-Up Announcement Coming”
Sonisphere festival organizer Stuart Galbraith has revealed that there will be a major line-up announcement coming after Easter. Get your Sonisphere tickets here!
When asked about the rest of this year’s line-up, Sonisphere festival organizer Stuart Galbraith has said: “We’re still working on several aspects of the bill, especially the UK. We still do have a number of bands to announce in the UK. We may have another announcement next week, failing that we will have a major announcement just after Easter.”
He also spoke about the fierce competition between Sonisphere and Download, saying: “I think we’ll bring a fresh approach. We’re not aiming to mimic what happens at Download. We’re more on the basis of booking fewer bands but of higher quality and also to have them play sequentially so that everyone can see every band. Plus, I think that at Knebworth the park land is idealic and instead of the familiar dusty surroundings of a race circuit, we’ll have a rock festival in some fantastic, rolling Hertfordshire countryside.”
“We had a clear idea of what we wanted to try and deliver,” he continued. “We’ve got 90% of what we anticipated but it’s not about what people are doing, it’s about availability and bands touring schedules. I’m happy with what we’ve announced for Sonisphere so far and the rest of the announcements that we’ve got coming up after Easter will finish the bill off quite nicely.”
Sonisphere will be headlined by Metallica and Linkin Park and will take place on August 1st – 2nd at Knebworth. Also on the bill will be Nine Inch Nails, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, Lamb Of God, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Anthrax, Airbourne, Thin Lizzy, Killing Joke and The Sword.

he’s coming off as less cocky than he was in his first couple of interviews. must have realised that Download is far superior.
cant agree, the bill is far better at knebworth, fingers crossed for a misfits re-union!
I think he should admit defeat. The people who run Download have pulled off their best line-up this year by catering for 3 different generations of rock and metal fans and I say that even tho Sonis-sh*t has some of my favourite bands of all time!!!
Sonisphere??? The name actually makes Download sound good!!!
Bring back Monsters Of Rock I say!!!
@johnny – ever heard the phrase “Jack of all trades, master of none”?
download has a reasonable bill, but even as an old rocker – the sunday holds no draw for me whatsoever, Def Lep are pish, The snake are awesome if cov’s voice is fit, and the rest are just not big enough.
Download could have announce Faith No More and just a load of unsigned bands and it would still win. Faith No fucking More for christ’s sake people. Nothing beats that! Add to that ZZ Top, the Crue, Down, Opeth, Meshuggah, Whitesnake and you’ve got the best line-upI’ve seen at any festival for a loooooong time. Sonisphere is just a mixture of the last few Downloads- big names, but seen em all before.
Only the addition of Slayer to Download would level Download with Sonisphere. How can anything compete with MfH AND LoG?
download always fucks up with its headliners making good bands play at the same time so you at least miss one band you want to see, and sonisphere seems to let you see them all plus the announcement rumors i have seen will make sonisphere rule only thing download has going for it is fact they have faith no more, down and five finger death punch playing
Looks to me that both festivals will be ace…so why the bickering?
Best Sonisphere announcement would be Manowar or Rammstein. ;-p
If iron maiden is announced, i know one person who will be totally pissed…
I thought Sonisphere looked better then download
N then download announced Clutch were playing.
And i fell off my chair.
I’m going to Download but if Sonisphere manages to snag Rammstein I’ll be a little pissed.
But who am I to complain when this year’s DL lineup is the best since 06 or 07?
must admit… even through some dire choices like Limp Bizkit… there arent many bands at Download that i wouldnt watch – its a top lineup which would be better if they had MH and LoG oh aaand anthrax, those 3 bands alone make Sonisphere a more attractive prospect
at the end of the day – both have decent lineups, it all depends on what you would rather watch
So correct me if im wrong, it doesnt last as long as Download, there will be a fraction of the amount of bands playing, and yet it costs more??!!
download has a better line up than sonisphere, but sonisphere is in august and download are annoying and go in june. thats why its sonisphere for me.
I’m Going to sonisphere, bought tickets a while ago, and i have to say i love every band on the list, Download tbh looks lame. I went in 2006 and loved it, missed out on 2007 and was pissed i missed Maiden, 2008 looked crap and tbh 2009 looks just as bad to me
Download is better end of.
