Sonisphere Reviews: Alice In Chains & Avenged Sevenfold
The Californians take over at Sonisphere!
Alice In Chains
You’ve probably heard the wall of hype that has surrounded just how good William DuVall is as the frontman of Alice In Chains but nothing can prepare you for quite how much power this Alice line-up are capable of. As the tribal thump of ‘Angry Chair’ fills the air, not only do the band sound immaculate, DuVall looks and commands the stage like a bona fide star. Heading straight into the pounding riff of ‘Man In The Box’, Alice will have converted thousands more to the cause and reminded all of the band’s brilliance within the phenomenal opening ten minutes of their set.
Perhaps most significant factor of Alice’s set is that the band’s two new songs, ‘A Looking In View’ and the colossal ‘Check My Brain’, aren’t overawed vy the band’s classic material and, in the case of the latter, completely steals the show. Alice are back and you had better believe it.

Avenged Sevenfold
Following the sadness of NIN’s last ever UK show isn’t the most enviable of tasks but thankfully, it’s one that Avenged Sevenfold are more than capable of. Hitting the stage with all of the gusto of a band in their pomp, A7X surge into the hard-and-heavy ‘Critical Acclaim’. What impresses more about A7X than someone such as BFMV, Trivium or any of the other bigger new wave bands is pure showmanship and star quality. This band were born to command stages and occasions such as this and by god, that’s exactly what they do.
Avenged continue to defy critics with performances such as today’s.

surprised to hear a7x did well especially as i saw them play in dublin the night before with synister gates and the drummer causing a delay because they went “missing” then when they did get on stage S.Gates was so pisssed he forgot how to play the second song…..unacceptable. Shadows has a good voice but i felt like I lost an hour of my life watching these guys.
aawww… i wish i were there :/
Well said about avenged beez, they truley owned it yesterday, their also not looking as silly as they used to, the rev has a hobo beard now ffs.
Saw Alice and A7X supporting Metallica in Dublin on Saturday (where Alice in Chains debuted Check My Brain
) William DuVall truly is a force to be reckoned with, Rain When I Die was immense. Avenged really are becoming one of the best live bands going, particularly when compared to bands of similar age and experience. Mastodon stand head and shoulders above it all though.
they were awesome in dublin too
both bands played brilliantly good to see a7x growing their hair as well
Second time for me seeing AIC yesterday with DuVall and they were excellent!!
The new songs are sounding great too!!
I skipped both of them, I wouldn’t have minded seeing AIC but I wanted to secure a good place for NIN and Metallica, so it was a sacrifice I needed to take. That and I don’t like A7X anyway.
I’m waiting for AIC to come around my area. Ive seen them play 2x since Layne died and Jerry 2x also. On Jerry’s Solo tour he had Williams band “Comes with the fall” open up for them and at the end of jerrys solo set he started up with rain when i die and William came out and sang Laynes vocals. This was 6 months after Layne died. Talking about immense. There wasnt a dry eye in that place! Im so ready to see them back as “officially” AIC with new material/album..Layne may you RIP my brother.
Yeh S.Gates was pissed again there and sung something like “blah blah blah” half way through a song … but hey look at the likes of Slash, he was pissed 24/7 but still f****ing rules
