Sonisphere Reviews: Thunder & The Wildhearts
The old school take over at Sonisphere as we bid a fond farewell to the mighty Thunder!
Thunder
When bands play their final shows, they generally tend to be bittersweet and slightly sombre affairs, where bands go through the motions onstage and dilver somewhat tepid shows. Not Thunder. Thunder turn the Bohemia tent into a free-for-all, bring-a-bottle, rock n’ roll all night and party every day celebration of all things that are great about good time rock music. Opening with ‘Dirty Love’, the band deliver 45 minutes of non-stop, feel-good tunes and when a truly mountainous ‘Love Walked In’ takes things to a whole new level, the heaving tent rival any football/rugby club in the land in the sing-a-long stakes.
They’ll be sorely missed but my god, what a way to go!

The Wildhearts
In contrast, someone must have fed the soundman after midnight and soaked him in water as the sound gremlins completely sabotage The Wildhearts set. The frustration is clearly getting to Ginger and it’s hard to not feel for him as what should have been a riotous, crowning moment, turns out to be something of a let-down.
As always, you can’t fault the boys for effort, it’s just a shame that technical hitches hamper them.

My God were thunder epic. So sad that it was the first and only time I will ever see them.
