Sonisphere Rumours Mount

terrybezer / News / 29/04/2009 17:51pm

OK, so we know that it’s going to be somebody major, but who is it going to be? We put on our super-sleuth disguises and start to dig for answers.

Alright, so we were completely stumped by the news that Sonisphere have a massive band to announce when it seems like every brother and their mother are already booked for one of the festivals. We hadn’t considered this bunch of gems though…

My Chemical Romance

OK, so it might not be the most pleasing to all metal ears, but it is certainly feasible. Gerard Way and his cronies are booked to hit the Summersonic festival in Japan in August and with Sonisphere being the exact same month, this is definitely a possibility. They did do Projekt Revolution with Linkin Park after all!

Tool

Another band with comeback dates booked for August, there’s a very real possibility that it could be these prog metallers. They’re going to be at Lollapalooza in the States in August and they’d be a massive and very, very welcome addition to the UK Sonisphere festival.

Heaven & Hell

Originally self-confirmed for Download, Heaven & Hell appeared to have jumped the gun on that one but they are yet to announce any dates in the UK after the release of their ass-kicking new album, ‘The Devil You Know’. We can’t wait to see these guys, but are they big enough to be second headliner? Hmmm, very interesting.

Jane’s Addiction

They’re following NIN around the world and they do kick a huge amount of ass. The only problem is that the last time that they were on a British festival bill, they were 5th from the top, so it’s debatable that they would be the big draw that people are expecting.

Manowar

It’s our dream, alright! We’d rumour them for the Greenwich Folk Festival if we thought that we could influence someone into getting them over here. It’s been 15 long, long years. Come on, Joey! This country needs more Manowar!

Thanks to all of you those who contributed on the site and our Twitter. We couldn’t have made this post without you!

Sonisphere will be headlined by Metallica and Linkin Park and will take place on August 1st – 2nd at Knebworth. Also on the bill will be Nine Inch Nails, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, Lamb Of God, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Anthrax, Airbourne, Thin Lizzy, Killing Joke and The Sword.

it wud be so disappointing if it turned out to be someone that nobody likes at all and all the hype was for nothing

Manowar are playing festivals in europe from end of June until mid July so chances are….

Give me a SOAD reunion.. That would live up to the fucking hype.

RATM maybe?

only manowar appeals out of them names

hope its someone else, van halen would rule

That’s the first time I’ve heard Tool’s name thrown in…and my god are my fingers crossed!!

noobpotato

Miguel is so right, and i have heard rumors…

also if it turns out to be any of them (bar tool) i will be sad. Which sucks cause i see it being heaven and hell or janes addiction.

Tony Martin

Led Zeppelin…Oh, sorry…wrong mag!

Gedmundo

A SOAD reunion would make me happy and my mate exstatic. Can’t see it happening though. My money’s on RATM because of some interesting comment on the Sonisphere twitter a while ago. “Why am I listening to Naom Chomsky” I think it was. But sub headlining? hmmm, you’d think they wouldn’t

Horseguts

MANOWAR! MANOWAR! MANOWAR! MANOWAR! MANOWAR! MANOWAR! We were all chanting that in the hammerfest vip bar and they (sadly) wernt even playing!

Its Soundgarden.

Hmmm…
I’d think that Machine Head/Lamb of God would be good second headliners (assuming its for Metallica anyway) but if its for LP someone like H&H just wouldn’t work…
Tool or Manowar seem feasible.

parkiben

these suggestions would be very good

unfortunately, the biggest rumour seems to be primal scream atm. they have already been confirmed for one of the other legs of sonisphere (spanish mayb?)

just dont get your hopes up to much people

tool would be IMMENSE though!

Soundgarden

Thunder

I am going for MCR on sat and H&H on sun

put mcr up on it. that way we’ll get to see more bottles thrown at their smug fuckin’ faces…

charlie

I’m thinking and Hoping Tool! SOAD coming back isn’t gunna happen yet! Megadeth are amazing but cant see them supporting under Linkin Park, If its MCR ill get my bottle ready

I’m feeling GNR to be honest, they’re talking about touring later this year and nowadays, they’d fit that size slot

peachyt

the only band that could live up to the hype of this announcement now is megadeth but everyone will say that they won’t be under lp but in download 07 they were on before dragonforce wolfmother velvet revolver and mcr. so here’s hoping…

Rammstein? Ach, i thought id throw them in there.

Soundgarden… :-\ although they are quite likely they are hardly bigger than a fair few of the other bands already announced are they?

I doubt very much that Jaymz Het would allow GN’R anywhere near a gig that Metallica are doing after that tour they did together back in the 90’s. No fuckin’ way…

Manowar would never play unless they’re headlining, could you imagine Linkin Park having to go on after them??

Somebody should wave a shit load of cash in front of Sepultura.

mentalsaffa

as bad as it would be to see many of those bands (except mcr…..two words…fuck that!) me thinks that with the announcement of an up and coming european tour, Pearl Jam might well take that spot….might not be the hardest of hardcore but still a possibility none the less.

For some reason i doubt its gonna be Megadeth…Megadeth + Metallica?

Well, suppose; he has cleared the air with Slayer…

The Amazing Mr Cabbage

Lordi!!

lmao!!

It won’t be TOOL – they’re headlining the All Points West frstival in New York on August 1st.

^
What steve said

Pearl Jam please…

charlie

ah dam it Mr Steve is right!

The live debut of Burzum? Ho ho…

rockstar

What abou MEGADEATH!?! Dave Mustaine said that he was going to do something he thought he was never going to do and that would end feuds!!!!!!!!!!

RickWalker

My money’s on H&H
though Pearl Jam is possible, i suppose
Megadeth, though unlikely, would be fantastic…both Hetfield and Mustaine would then be trying to put on the best shows of their lives with their bands, in order to outdo the other.

Dear God, i hope it isn’t my chemical toilet cleaner…

The Amazing Mr Cabbage

Iron Maiden maybe?

Or are they still overseas….
