soundgarden_90Chris Cornell confirms that the Seattle riff-lords’ 12-year hiatus is over.

Soundgarden, responsible for some of the greatest albums of the 90’s including Superunknown, Down On The Upside and the astounding Badmotorfinger, have confirmed that they are to reform in 2010.

Singer Chris Cornell posted the following on his official website: “The 12-year break is over and school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!”

To sign up, go to www.soundgardenworld.com.

It is yet to be confirmed whether or not the band will be recording new material or when they will begin touring. We would imagine that UK festival appearances are likely.

I like pudding, it is very nice

Headlining Download with Metallica and AC/DC. ;)

Nah, Metallica won’t be headlining a bunch of Sonisphere festivals and download. Personally I still think that Metallica will headline Knebworth Sonisphere. They were just waiting to make the most of ticket sales for free Poland show first.

Luke (x)

well Chris like his money so more than likely an album will appear. not before they tour the crap out of themselves until everyone gets bored that they have reformed. maybe an Audioslave reformation will happen and then we will be treated to another bad attempt at a solo album produced by Dr Dre or Lady Gaga or whatever pop culture troll he manages to find

TheCraigus

I think they may headline Download, although I hope that’s not true and they play various Academt venues around the country much like Alice In Chains did recently.

Theres NO WAY Metallica will appear at ANY UK festivals this year….especially Sonisphere since they headlined the 1st one. Nah the UK arent good enough for the BIG 4 =(

WHICH FREAKIN SUCKS BALLS!!!

@JoHn

Didn’t Metallica headline Rock Am Ring three years in a row?

I’d say it could be possible

Geee MH you were slow covering this!

I think this is the only piece of news Kerrang has beaten you to, they had it up on new years day!

Harrison

Why would they give free tickets to Poland away if Metallica was playing Knebworth…

TheSynysterVengeance

To try and get more people to buy tickets to Sonisphere UK early? I doubt they’re saying “Oh Metallica aren’t playing Knebworth, so here’s a free ticket to see them in Poland!” Though they are looking a lot more likely for Download than Sonisphere… At least hope they don’t do Soni again don’t need last year’s line up repeated

Download Sat night Last 3 bands:
Audioslave
Soundgarden
Rage Against The Machine? ;)

Maybe even scratch Audioslave and just Soundgarden and RATM as last 2 bands.

Would love to hear Kim play loud and fast again!!!

Hope they won’t tour with Metallica. It will be more humiliating than seeing Chris with Timbaland.

If they do get on stage with that retro-band (also known as Megadeth for the Masses or Metal for the Headless) then the retro-band will learn enough to make another black album (The Load & Reload were making “some kind of muck” out of all the soundgarden stuff).

Kirk Ham said that the black album came to be because of being in touch with soundgarden(they toured together at that time as well).

So the famous retro-band will some day be known as the band that ‘assumed’ their music(however simplified) from Dave Mustaine(once in a while acknowledged) and Kim Thayil. And, of course, made billions of $.

Hope to see Kim and Dave together on stage some day. They are quite different in their styles – such different definitions of style they have. But in essence they both achieve the same thing.

i wish i could be excited about this, but i’m not. the whole reunion thing has basically become a money grabbing fad these days. the music that reunited bands release isn’t anywhere nearly as good as the original material. and chris cornell, well that guy is just a sell out. fuck him in his stupid ass.

bassman

trust mem metallica are headlining download, with acdc. i dont kno about weather or not soundgarden are but it seams very possible

Here’s hoping for a Sonisphere date, that would really make my year!!!

VERY VERY ORGASMIC!!!

well, Cornell might be in it for the money and not much else but i’m still pretty excited about this. The icing on the cake for me would be if we had a UK “Grunge” Tour… Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains all together. I’d pay good money to see that. The amount of times these guys have collaborated and made guest appearances at each others shows in the US has made me green with envy!

Destroying Dignity

we’ve had RATM, smashing pumpkins, faith no more, alice in chains, now soundgarden. is anyone actually surprised by this announcement? with the exception of AIC i cant get excited about any of these reformations.

judging by what the other regrouped bands have done i’d say soundgarden will be headlining either download or reading/leeds

i had the misfortune to see chris cornell at the scala in london where he played his new cd..probably one of the worse ever gigs ive been to.

lets hope soundgarden are a lot better .

Michael

thats 2010 got off to a shite start ;)

should be good i hope?

the most boring band in music

devilstoy

not great before..will be worse now another band out to milk the fans!!!

Fuck these festivals bring back

SCORPIONS
ALICE COOPER
GUNS N ROSES

THIN LIZZY

@king: you’re a tard

im afraid to say im not excited about it, every band is doing it these days just to earn a bit extra cash. the only reunion i would of loved is pantera, but obv cant happen.

Chris Ward
theoutlawtorn

I hope that you’re correct Tom!!

This is great news and just what Chris needed to re-establish himself after that atrocity that was the ‘Scream’ album!!

Chris Ward

Agree with @king. Incredibly dull band. The Coldplay of hard rock.

http://www.moviesandmetal.com

You only think they’re dull because you like the feirce rock stylings of Nickelback. This is old news. I hope they tour with someone cool and play some good concerts….NOW!

good news to hear :D

Who gives a fuck if bands reunite for money as long as as they can put on a good show/record i’m all for it.

Gives the youngsters a chance to see older bands that they may have gotten into after they’d split.

Chris Ward

rElph, I think they’re dull because they are.

Grim Jim

Yeah, Yeah Soundgarden reunion is great and they will probably be the sneaky big announcement from Download organisers…… but that would be selling us short. After promising a big announcement that we won’t be expecting only the mighty ZEP will do, not a ZEP cover band!!!

FAO: Luke
Excuse me?! The man “likes money” you say, I guess you live on the street and boil pebbles such is your hatred of cash then?! Then there was “tour until everyone gets bored”, do you get bored of your favourite bands touring then? For those of us that have loved this band for over a decade but by curse of birth just missed out on ever seeing them its a dream come true! Ok so the last two solo albums are nothing groundbreaking, but Euphoria Morning is incredible. Audioslave are what they are and you certainly can’t suggest they had nothing to offer.

By all means dislike a band but don’t talk utter shite about them!!!

GRRRRRR!!

soundgarden are shie
chris cornell has the most whiney voice in history
PISH

Soundgarden are utter shit, go fuck yourself Chris! You dont belong in the Metal world.

After grunge took the joy out of heavy rock it was just starting to find its confidence again after 15 years. Now we’ve got bloody this lot and Pearl Jam come to piss on everyone’s chips again :(
I hope everyone has more sense than to buy into it again – cords, lumberjack shirts and cardigans can go sulk in a corner on their own and not bother the rest of us, thanks :P

every band does it for the money im a maiden nut -but maiden have had 80 mill albums sold now maiden are minted but dosn’t mean their still not the bollocks and up front and honist blokes,
so what if chris and co are doing for the money as long as they put on a good show and start recording again then whats the problem

Shaun C.

COOL!
Chris Cornell has finally pulled his head out of his arse, stop recording his boring overproduced solo material, and finally pulled Ben Sheppard and Kim Thayl out of retirement.
AND pulled Matt Cameron out of Pearl Jam too….

Adrian Blade

I agree with Mat666.
Don’t let this rubbish back in to the world of Metal. I remember going out and sleeping with sexy rock chicks. Then grunge came out and fat ugly chicks in green cords appeared. All moody with issues.
Keep the joy of heavy metal, there are loads of great new bands as well as established ones so we don’t need this.

Chris Ward

Lluc, I hope that’s aimed at Cornell and not me ;)

SniderRowena

Every one remembers that men’s life is expensive, however people require cash for various things and not every person earns enough money. Thence to receive fast home loans or just credit loan would be a correct solution.
