The 10 Albums You Must Hear This Summer

terrybezer / News / 28/05/2010 15:51pm

We preview 10 of the biggest metal albums coming your way this summer!

Iron Maiden – The Final Frontier
One of the biggest metal bands of all time prepare to unleash their latest outing to the world this summer. After the epic, prog-rock leanings of the gargantuan ‘A Matter Of Life And Death’, it’ll be a tall order to top that monster of an album but you know that the Irons are capable of it.

Bring Me The Horizon – TBC
After stepping up to the plate and cementing their names as one of the world’s premier up-and-coming metal bands, BMTH are set to rip up their blueprint and add even more electronic elements, a prog side and guest appearances that will take them into new and unfamiliar territories. He who dares…

Avenged Sevenfold – ‘Nightmare’
Through adversity, will Avenged triumph? Well, by the sounds of the album’s title-track and lead single, we’d have to say hell fucking yeah! After the tragic passing of Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan, A7X have arguably the best drummer in the world in Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy pounding the skins on ‘Nightmare’. Throw in Avenged’s customary, epic song structures and this one is sure to smoke.

Parkway Drive – ‘Deep Blue’
We’re actually cheating on this one because we HAVE heard it. What’s more important is that you hear it. It’s a face-melter of an album that’s going to bitch-slap a lot of today’s metal bands into raising their game. Stand back, this one’s gonna blow.

Disturbed – ‘Asylum’
The band themselves have described ‘Asylum’ as being classically Disturbed. While reinventing the wheel may not be on the agenda for Draiman and co, we can expect more in the way of fist-pumping, wall-shaking, “oooh-ah-ah, ah-ah”ing mayhem. The first single drops in a month’s time.

Limp Bizkit – ‘Gold Cobra’
It’s sink or swim time for Durst and the boys. Riding on a wave of wife-beater wearing nostalgia, Limp Bizkit reignited the fire of yesteryear and set about blowing minds across Europe on their reunion tour last year. ‘Why Try’ hints at a return to form but nothing would please the doubters more than ‘Gold Cobra’ being a damp squib. The proof will be in the pudding.

36 Crazyfists – ‘Collisions And Castaways’
One of the most criminally overlooked bands within the metal stratosphere, 36 Crazyfists will release their first album in 2 years this July. With the band back on Roadrunner and a 100% record when it comes to releasing awesome records, could this be the time for 36 Crazyfists to finally reach the top of the mountain? We certainly hope so.

Black Label Society – ‘Order of the Black’
Zakk Wylde releases his first post-Ozzy BLS album this Summer and we can’t wait. While Zakk has had to pull double-duty up to this point and write for both Ozzy and BLS, this is the first time that the Wylde one will be able to give Black Label Society his full attention. Expect fret-roasting solos, riffs with mammoth bollocks and plenty of pinched harmonics.

Ozzy Osbourne – ‘Scream’
Speaking of Ozzy, it’d be rude to leave the Double O out of the mix when the first single from this one is an absolute best. The Gus-G lead ‘Let Me Hear You Scream’ recalls the 80’s heyday of Ozzy’s career with the tempo being increased and an increased fun-factor that’s been missing in his solo work for quite some time. Could this be the return to form we’ve all craved?

Korn – ‘III: Remember Who You Are’
Korn have reconvened with the man who captured their fire better than anyone else has managed, nu-metal uber-producer Ross Robinson. The clips we’ve heard are promising as hell and ‘Oildale’ was pretty much universally acclaimed. It’s been so long since we’ve had a genuinely amazing Korn album but this could definitely be the one. Third time lucky? We reckon it might be.

36CF and Maiden!!!! Has to be.
It is true about 36CF: How have they never… quite… got… up…. there… :/

Add Volbeat & Soilwork

@ Phantasmagasm: Thanks dude XD

On topic, BLS and 36CF are the only ones there that spark me.

‘It’s sink or swim time for Durst and the boys…’ Sink. Big sink.

When Limp Bizkit made their UK comeback at Download last year, I’ll admit, it was intriguing given the major heat Fred Durst has had in the past from metalheads world over and the returning Wes Borland. And, if Im honest, it was entertaining for about 5 minutes (Break Stuff – easily the best song they’ve ever done) but this album will bomb BIG TIME. Regardless of what alot of people are saying ITS NOT HIP OR INDEED COOL TO LIKE LIMP BIZKIT!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – get rid of Fred Durst and get a proper vocalist in and with Wes Borland on the axe they might stand a chance.

Durst is a dick.

king of heavy metal

thats only 7 of the biggest albums this year wheres the other 3?, bmth, parkway drive and 36 crazyfists don’t count as big as they are shit

@BlakNo1 the reason those dates are cancelled is because they feel the fans won’t get the best out of the gig because they are in ampitheatres and they are moving the dates to different venues later in the year that’s why.

Clahn

Ryan6sic6

@king of heavy metal: you think parkway, bmth and 36 crazyfists are shit, yet you call yourself the king of heavy metal. fucking idiot.

Blind Guardian? Nevermore? Soilwork? Plus loads of other amazing shit coming out this year.

Why were these bands not mentioned?

sheep-of-god

Blind Guardian, Kamelot and best of all Maiden are the albums I am really waiting for.. Disturbed’s could be good too..

Phantasmagasm

@Vicki because they are the only ones worth any time at all. :)

@Ryan6: except none of those bands are metal, or anything special for that matter

36CF are ok at best, parkway are pretty meh, BMTH are downright dreadful

BMTH better be decent like the first album

parkway drive amazing

and @ N.Anselmo omg Bonded By Blood are awesome xD

Destroying Dignity

oh yeah….morbid angel! u dare to suggest BMTH over one of the most influential death metal bands ever? madness!

Man i cannot wait for Maiden and Disturbs albums !!!

BlakNo1

“@BlakNo1 the reason those dates are cancelled is because they feel the fans won’t get the best out of the gig because they are in ampitheatres and they are moving the dates to different venues later in the year that’s why”

Those gigs were cancelled because nobody was buying tickets for them. That whole BS line about caring about a fan experience is just weak spin. If those tix were selling, no way in hell would they re-schedule, not for gigs that take place in less than 2 months.

Aegenroth

What a crock of shit!
Fleshgod Apocalypse?
Cannabis Corpse?
Iron Maiden?
Turisas?
SOILWORK?
Where are they? Why do people want to listen to wimpy little shits on this list?

Can’t wait for BMTH’s new album, will be killer.. I just hope they don’t make it sound too electronic..
Avenged Sevenfold’s new album will also be killer, Im loving the title track..
Disturbed just will simply be awesome, can’t go wronge with Disturbed..
However I cannot wait until Dimmu Borgir release their new album.. and Murderdolls..

Leper Affinity

BMTH? Limp Bizkit? This is why I stopped buying Metal Hammer.

Skullcrusher666

@ Skip, they need to get rid of DJ Fuckhead or whatever the fuck he’s called as well. TURNTABLES ARE NOT A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT DURST, YOU WALLY!

Let’s check the list
-AWESOME! /m/
-They’ll probably slit their wrists before it’s out…
-Will probably buy it out of sympathy for Rev, might be good…
-Who?
-Seriously over-rated
-Would rather stick my cock in a bacon slicer
-Overlooked for a reason, all this metalcore stuff sounds the fucking same!
-Will probably be good
-Will probably be very good
-For fuck’s sake…

Phantasmagasm

@skullcrusher666 I agree the majority of metalcore sounds the same, but notice I said the majority, They may be metalcore but there is something very distinctive about their sound so they are criminally overlooked as Metal Hammer said.

saurabh
