On the one hand, ambassador you’re really spoiling us with two metal/hard rock festivals in the UK.

On the other hand the very existence of two festivals and their booking wars has prevented one of the greatest live metal events for a long time from happening.

Does this rule out Metallica playing a one off at Wembley Stadium/ Milton Keynes with Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax in support? Technically, it wouldn’t be a festival.

Festival exclusivity really does my head in sometimes, sure I don’t mind if said exclusive bands have toured before or are going to after the festival, but when it’s “only UK show of the year” it’s just not fair on the fans.

@Shane I wouldn’t rule out a super gig at Milton Keynes or Wemley, or any stadiums if they can play togetehr at Soni in Poland

Faith No More were billed as a Download exclusive last year – hello Reading & Leeds! Let’s be fair, bearing in mind that Dave Mustaine does what HE wants, if he wants to do the Big 4 at Knebworth, he will do it. At the end of the day, Galbraith will have been asking Megadeth to do Sonisphere as well, it’s going to be Dave Mustaine’s fault for choosing Download, not Copping’s for booking them.

Actually they’ve only announced two headlining acts, If you look at the poster Alice Cooper is a fiar distance below Maiden and Rammstein, actually below Placebo as well! so that suggests they’re still yet to anounce a headliner for Friday. So bets in please. I’m personally hoping its Soundgarden cause I dont want to waste my money going to Download as well!

I couldn’t care less seen slayer loads of times and they’ve gotten boring, never really got into anthrax or megadeth, and i’ve got no interest in seeing the band that released st wanker and death pathetic.

sonispher and download both have quite bad line ups this year.

im not saying they dont have some fucking awsom bands because they do but they just dont have the same quantity of grate bands that bloodstock do. But i gess thats the problam with Metal/rock/indie festivals rather than metal festivals

Hammer, have a word to sort out a fucking HUGE Wembley gig, doesn’t have to be this year if festival agreements mean it, but how about 1st january 2011. Every metalhead wants to see this, and every metalhead should be able to without having to fucking cross europe to get there. If not well have to sit and cry everytime we watch the dvd that will enevitably be released knowing we could have gone if we wanted to become bankrupt.

So what, Download has Megadeth? I love them, but I seen them twice. The rest of the bands announced for Download, the exception being AC/DC, are of no interest to me. Sonisphere is looking much more exciting. Hello, Rammstein?! It’s not even a choice out of the two. With the exception of Anthrax I’ve seen the rest of the Big Four anyway. It would be a great thing to happen, but at the end of the day it’s just 4 bands that everyone has seen at some point before, just in one place. And I’m sure there’ll be plenty of bitching on stage anyway *cough* Mustaine *cough*

If you’re pissed off about it, just blame the pettiness of the organisers. It’s all just competition for ticket sales.

I am going to download for the simple fact is that i dont care for iggy, alice cooper, motley crue, papa roach, bmth, placebo, and to be honest slayer arent great anymore. yes they were one of the biggest bands ever and yes having them on the bill will sell loads of tickets but they have lost it now. Fear Factory are awesome but why do they get shoved down the bill for placebo at a metal festival? I just dont understand it. As for download, i havent seen megadeth live so that will be freaking awesome. Why not go see ACDC? biggest band in the world playing possibly their last ever UK festival? yeah count me in

Also as mentioned above, download has 100’s of bands over the weekend. People discard download over who is playing mainstage but there were some awesome bands on the smaller stages last year and if there is a similar kind of thing this year then my download ticket will be well spent.

Metallica played Download unannounced when they were on an exclusive Reading/Leeds deal.
Maybe Vic and the Rattleheads will play Sonisphere if thats not an option.

@IronMonkey yeah metallica played unannounced but the plan was for them to replace limp bizkit as headliners. reading/leeds wouldnt allow this which is why metallica played mid afternoon on 2nd stage.

i think that was a one off tho. how often do festival headliners drop out? especially as it was download’s first year, i’d expect most festivals have a backup plan now in case it happens. even the year after they almost lost metallica, thank fuck for lombardo and jordison!

i checked the sonisphere website, it says alice cooper is closing the friday, with bands playing on the 2nd stage and 2 tented stages. some other babbling about a rocky horror theme and fancy dress being welcome. personally i’ll turn up early friday afternoon and proceed to get shitfaced so i wont mind whats happening!

That really blows!!! I wasn’t going to see it…. well for the reason that tickets to Europe from usa are quite expensive but Megadeth not playing really hurts that line up in my opinion.
