After it was announced that Faith No More will headline a night at this year’s Download festival, we thought we’d get stuck in and dig around the good and the not-so good possibilities that surround their upcoming reunion. Get your Download tickets!

Pros:

Epic, Falling To Pieces, Digging The Grave, Last Cup Of Sorrow, Easy…
How many good songs do this band have? When you rack them up it’s fookin’ crazy.

Mike Patton’s voice.
Mike Patton has always slayed but never quite like he did in FNM. Whether it’s Tomahawk, Mr Bungle, Fantomas or being a b-boy with Rahzel, Patton has always brought the sickness in spades. Donington won’t know what’s hit it.

Billy Gould and Mike Bordin back together again.
One of the greatest rhythm sections to ever grace rock are back. If they’re on form, this will be Epic. Get it? Geddit!? No? Sod you, then.

It’s one of the biggest events of the Download era.
The excitement and exclusivity of being their to witness the return of one of the most seminal bands of the past 2 decades will be crazy. The anticipation before they come onstage, the speculation of what their opening song will be…argh! We can’t wait!

The show will be incredible.
This really should be the only post that matters.

Cons:

It’s a reunion without Jim Martin.

It’s a bit like a Monty Python reunion without Eric Idle or a packed lunch without a Penguin bar. It’s just not on.

There are no plans beyond a European festival run at the moment.
The rest of the world will hate you for it. Still, at least we get to see it. The rest of the world will still be glad Europe got to see it, right? Natch.

Credit Crunch = Reunionsville.
A band that didn’t ever give a fuck about the fortune and fame could now be seen to be chasing the big, fat pay-cheque. Not very FNM, is it?

If it’s shit, it will crush people.
Waiting all of these years to see these songs and then seeing them played badly would be a disaster. Ask Rage Against The Machine. They can tell you all about it first-hand after their Reading performance last year.

It’s a festival set.

Sure, it makes it a monumental event to be in a field with 60,000 other lunatics, but it means a shorter set time than a normal headline show. This means there will be much bitching and an additional tea-spoon of moaning after the show.

Check out our ultimate Faith No More playlist and get a full quote from Billy Gould about the band’s reunion! You can also catch Metal Hammer columnist Beez’s slightly excitable rant about the Faith No More reunion.

Faith No More will headline the first night at this year’s Download festival. Download will take place on June 12th – 14th at Donington and will also feature sets from Slipknot, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, The Prodigy, Limp Bizkit, Motley Crue, Marilyn Manson, Korn, ZZ Top and many, many more.

There’s the same problem as last year’s Download as well – with the best headliner on the first night, the other two will seem more than a little average.

If it’s shit, it will crush people.

it wont be shit \m/ \m/

Relax; these guys are the professionals. They will make it look like they are chilling out and jamming out on a sunday morning (canyouseewhatIdidthere?).

The bassist has set up a live twitter feed!
Am I good. or am I good?
An american tour isn’t out of the question; look inside the horse’s mouth. A new website is suggesting at least a 2 year reunion. Keep up the coverage Metal Hammer; you should do some speculation on what covers they might play, as a reunited FNM would find it impossible to not play a new song from the last 11 years. Open the set with a genius cover maybe?

I’ve had a hard time choosing which festival to attend this summer, but now, the choice is easy. Download, here I come!

Con: It’s not Fantomas

the cons make no sanes at all, and that’s not even blind optimism from a longtime fan, they just don’t.

1.) In my opinion, Jim’s input reached as far as I think it could go. On top of that he seemed like a stubborn asshole who distanced himself from the rest of the group. His attitude just didn’t seem very healthy for any artistic development within the band. Tha beng said, I belive “Angel Dust” to be the best rock album of all time if not damn close.

2.) I am POSITIVE they will give due props to their stateside fans. THEY ALWAYS HAVE. Why would they turn a cold shoulder now. It’s an insult to the band themselves to think they’d ignore their stateside following. Don’t be so near sighted and use your head.

3.) When did Faith No More EVER say they weren’t into getting popular and making money? It didn’t dominate their artistic process, no, but they NEVER claimed to be against making alot of money and getting famous in the process. They just didn’t surrender their dignity chasing it.

4.) These guys don’t play bad shows. They are professionals. Even the nuttier shows had high energy and plenty of comedy at least. No one’s gonna be crushed. If it’s SHIT!? They’re all still at the top of their game. It’s a bullshit fear. Lighten up! Is this Faith No More we’re talking about or New Kids On The Block?

5.) Even if it’s a festival and a possibly shorter set, BE GRATEFUL FAITH NO MORE IS PLAYING AGAIN!! Relax.

If the mighty Faith No More decide to hit the skins again, have some Faith in a band that has always delivered the goods with dignity and integrity. Why worry about it. BE HAPPY! FAITH NO MORE ARE PLAYING AGAIN! Have you no faith in the integrity of such an honest and might I add MANLY MAN’S BAND? Chill, it’ll be wondeful for all involved. xoxo
