sonispherereal_90Machine Head were today’s Sonisphere Special Guests! Read the reason that they came back to the bill!

Robb Flynn said the following from the main stage during Machine Head’s Special Guest slot at Sonisphere!

“After the promoters of Sonisphere begged us to come back to the bill last week, we decided we wanted to come back and play for each and every one of you!”

“We didn’t come back for Sonisphere, we didn’t come back for Limp Bizkit and it’s definitely not about the Nookie.

“We came back becasue it’s an honiour and a privieldge to play for each and every one of you!”

“Enough of the lovey-dovey bullshit! Are you ready to lose your fucking minds?!”

Moshtank

thats more like it!!!
GO! MACHINE FUCKIN HEAD!!!!

KhashayarX

I just found the reason to love machine head!

Real Metaller

They did it for the £££

lmao probably, but at the same time they would have lost a lot of reputation if they didnt play.

Michael

Personally, I love both bands. Limp Bizkit more though seeing as I’ve liked them since I was 7 or 8. (I’m 16 now) finnally got to see them last night in London. Whether your like or hate them they do put on an AMAZING live show and the energy they have is insane.

However, (and I know people will say “OH YEH BUT THE PROMOTERS FUCKED THEM OVER”) they shoulda just played instead of throwing a fit about it.
Definately for the money

BackWithAVengeance

good reason to come back.

i was not able to go to sonisphere knebworth so am i able too watch on tv or listen to metallica’s set on radio please help

foget about i’ll find out myself okay

even if they hadn’t dropped out in the first place they still would of destroyed Limp Biskit 17 times

I forwent their set as my own personal protest, made me feel better. And they did it for the fans, because they realised that they’d not get that new car they wanted without us…

“Real Metaller” and “me”, dont you think your being slightly over-cynical? i mean machine head have always worked fucking hard to give their fans as much as they can, and i think its great they were wiling to swallow their pride and be there when their fans wanted them!

good to see that this will they won’t they ladeeda will finally come to an end good to hear that machine head sonisphere!!

If they came for the fans they wouldn’t have pulled out in the first place. Little crybaby Flynn looking to create a feud with a bigger band and still fail in the end. Limp Bizkit put on a better show with more energy and the crowd was more into LB.

Jay Never come on this site again u fukwit. LB are faggots of the worst kind. They arent metal. They’re slim shady picking up a guitar. Machine FUCKING head \m/

Kaczorblb

Haha, they came back, and Limp owned them with not even single word. They acted like a fools, like a “big stars” haha. And Bizkit just did their job: Smashed the crowd permanently.

Superhans

bigger band? i’d say more commercial but not bigger, in the metal world machine head have more followers and a reputation as one of the best live bands on the planet!
disagree?? see how many people argue with you! i can’t say if LB were better than Machine Head on the day because i wasn’t there but if the Head had gone away for 8 yrs and came back the reaction would be tenfold of the bizkit….
to clear up, i like both so go fuck yourself ‘jay’ before you call me a hater

I wasnt’ impressed with MH. LB was much better. Wes Borland kicks ass. NIN was great too.

MetalHammer Rules

Rob Flynn thinks he should be higher on the bill at sonishphere ?
Then go sell some CD’s dude instead of whining on your message board.

MH haven’t had a great record in 12 years. TTAOE had 2 nice tunes, The Blackening was decent at best, and this dude now thinks he owns the Sonisphere festival just because he opened for Metallica ?

Get over it Robert : you play in a little band, and even though you opened for Metallica, you’ll never be 1/10 as big as LB were in the late 90’s. When the nu-metal was on top of the charts, you became a wigger yourself and completely sold out. So don’t act like you’ve always been a true metalhead, cause you haven’t.

LB aren’t metal, but the festival audiences don’t care : they’re fun, they have catchy tunes, and they know how to drive a crowd crazy.

You’re completely disrepectful towards them, whereas on the other hand, Limp Bizkit had nothing but respect for your has-been of a band.

Limp Bizkit crushed you 10 years ago.
Limp Bizkit crushes you today.
Limp Bizkit will still crush you 10 years from now.

I dont know whats worse Limp or a limp fan trying to say they are better than machine fucking head \m/

Wes and Fred slaughtered Rob and Gay Fuckin Head!

MH lost my respect and got owned by Limp Bizkit

They kicked ass!!
Though I’m kinda ashamed to say it, I thought LB put on a better show

probably got their pay tripled.

theverdict

I think the reason they would accept another slot in the first place was because it would mean knocking another band down like had just happened to them. If they were ’special guests’ I guess that means that every other bands slot stayed normal.

It still sucks what the promoters did though,

Blythie

I like Limp Bizkit and Machine Head and saw both yesterday and how anyone can say Limp Bizkits set was better than Machine Head is a knob.

21 circle pits anyone!?!?!?!

Caren Gibson

They didn’t get paid any more than their original contract.

Tubaot – Not in the slightest. If they gave a shit about the fans, they wouldn’t have pulled out in the first place. I own all their albums, I own most of their t-shirts and have seen them 7 times in the last 2 years – I think this gives me the right to an opinion. Nobody I spoke to wanted them there and we were all hoping for Down, but sadly that wasn’t to be.

MetalHammer Rules? Please remove yourself from this site. You clearly don’t belong here. Anybody thick enough to judge quality by record sales and commercial success isn’t needed around here. In fact if record sales are what impresses you then metal isn’t the genre for you. So Limp Bizkit had some success back in the day, so did Britney Spears, does that mean she’s good too? Lady GaGa’s had a few number one singles lately, Metallica haven’t, does that make Lady GaGa the better performer? No. She’s probably better than Limp Bizkit but I guess it would be foolish of me to expect much more from a band named after a semen-covered cookie.
Point two for the benefit of Mr. Rules.
Going by your name I assume you respect Hammer’s opinion. The Blackening and “decent” have never appeared in the same sentence in Hammer’s hallowed pages. The words Blackening, Album and Decade have however, usually with of and the. Are you seein the difference there? Funny how they never bestowed Limp Bizkit with such titles. Maybe it’s coz Limp Bizkit are a novelty. Then again, by your logic maybe if Limp Bizkit sell some more cds they’ll become better albums…
Also, thank you Caren for setting the record straight for the cynics talking about Machine Head doing it for the cash.

The fact that Machine Head came back to play after a very public spat with the promoters surely shows that they were motivated by a love of their fans and a desire to play for them far more so than the proffesional pride that saw them pull out in the first place?
Call me nieve but surely if they where ‘just after the money’ they could have done Download instead?

Haha, i have to say, i agree in princible with what Colm wrote above here with record sales alone not being a confirmation of being a big band..but remember, Metallica have sold over 100,000,000 albums worldwide (other ‘big’ metal bands like Iron Maiden +70 million, AC/DC +200 million!!!) so at times it can be fair to say that record sales count a little bit….
But that said Limp Bizket (who have sold 33 million) have outsold Machine Head, Lamb of God AND Slayer combined…but i doubt you will hear many metal fans claim that this makes them bigger and better than any of those three…

dont mean to start a debate/argument but hey…FIGHT

Caren Gibson

Woah ha ha ha! Game, set and match Gibson! That’s not a circle pit it’s a fucking moshing lake!
In fairness, I accept that some good metal bands do have commercial successes, but consider that Iron Maiden released their debut in 1980, Metallica 1983 and AC/DC 1975. Sure, they’ve sold a lot of records in that time, but Limp Bizkit? I wouldn’t be surprised if they sold 30 of those 33 million albums on the back of My Way and Rollin’ in a period of one and a half years, mostly to teeny boppers. (I know all my friends have the Chocolate Starfish from when they were ten.) So while some metal bands do accumulate sales over lengthy careers and some have surprising chart success (Pantera and Slipknot have actually managed real commercial success somehow) it’s fair to say that metal has never exactly been a consistent chart topper. (Fuck off with your 80s glam metal Motley Crue have distorted guitars, so do Metro Station)

[...] The Reason Machine Head Played Sonisphere [...]

Can you say Publicity Stunt…have lost my ££’s in future that’s for sure! And their set was SHIT!

Machine F. Head were fucking awesome as usual. The crowd were chanting ‘fuck limp bizkit’ at one time after Robb explained the reason. Randy Blythe (LoG) praised his countrymen Machine Head (thats when everyone first knew for definite they were the ‘guests’), Metallica and some others but I didn’t hear him mention Limp Bizkit. Machine Head came for their fans- I reckon they responded to all the comments no-one condemned them for pulling out at first anyway- somewhere deep inside I knew they’d be there ‘cos they are genuine- you can tell that from their lyrics- MACHINE FUCKING HEAD!!!!!!!

None of you will stand a minute in MfH pits.

I loved their set and was happy they played, but the thing I loved most was the way Robb missed out the whole Hetfield telling him to man-up and play at one of the other Sonispheres!

Blythie

Caren Gibson just put this argument to bed – holy shit did you see that fucking circle pit. Machine Head now hold the records for the largest single pit and the most in one go – 21.

As for Mike’s post, granted it wasn’t Machine Heads finest hour but every band goes through a rough patch. I mean for fuck sake, Metallica had a decade of dodgy moments but came back strong

Also as well as the circle pit record Ke…g! gave MACHINE FUCKING HEAD the Inspiration award Monday night.

Metalmadman89

to micheal. not self respectable reputable metal band would open for fuckin limp bizkit that makes me sick.

Heather

They were offered more money which they turned down earlier – if it were just about the money they would of taken the longer higher paid 2nd stage slot!

Money may have been an aspect, BUT the must of felt the backlash from the fans after they pulled out. Yeah pride was involved in the pull out, but they swallowed it and played below LB, which is probably more for the fans (and the reputation) than the money!

LB should have been below machinehead anyway, but really Lamb of God followed by MH is far better anyway!!

Heather

And yeah I admit the set wasn’t as god as other times I have seen them – but I have a feeling they needed to cut it slightly due to the crowd chanting!!

Noddy Thrash

This argument fucks me right off! People have the right to like either band or both without being slagged off for it. I like Limp Bizkit they are a good band they take hip hop mix it with metal and create some good tunes on the other hand i also like Machine Head they are one of the top metal bands around. I have now gone off Machine Head because of their idiotic blinkered fans, I went to the black crusade at Brixton to see Dragonforce, Trivium and Machine Head and Machine Head fans were booing Dragonforce and Trivium because they were not Machine Head – WTF? I was looking forward to that gig because i was going to see 3 top metal bands that i really like. Machine Head fans seem to think they are the only band in the world they are not there are thousands of really good bands out there. I have been listening to heavy metal for 30 years and like a lot of different types of heavy metal its not all about what the kids like at the moment and really enjoyed the fact that the line up at sonisphere catered for a lot of different tastes!!!
