The Road To Hammerfest: Rise To Remain
The metal party of the year that is Hammerfest grows ever closer and to celebrate, we’re bringing you an interview from one of the band’s on this year’s stellar bill every day! Today, it’s Brit n00bs, Rise to Remain! You can get a copy of their brand new EP with the brand new issue of Metal Hammer! Get details and tickets for Hammerfest here!
We sat down for a chin-wag with the voice of Rise To Remain, Austin Dickinson, to find out how much he was looking forward to throwing down at Hammerfest in Prestatyn, North Wales on 11-13 March!
What are your expectations of Hammerfest?
Austin Dickinson: We expect a party! We’re on pretty early, as we’re playing Manchester later that evening, but it gives us like, a two hour window to DRINK!
What does it mean to you to be picked by Metal Hammer magazine?
Austin: “It’s a great honour! It means that the ridiculous amount of back issues, posters and free shit that adorns my walls at home are more sentimental than ever!”
Have you got anything special lined up for the weekend?
Austin: “Well, we’re playing Glasgow the night before and Manchester after our set at Hammerfest, so I think a lot of driving is going to take place…we’re definitely going to hang around for a few beers though!”
Have you got your drinking hat on for after you’ve played?
Austin: “Hell yeah!”
Is there anyone on the bill who you are going to make sure you see?
Austin: “Our buddies The More I See are playing, so we’ll definitely catch them! Personally, I want to catch Ackercocke and Skindred too…its been far too long since I’ve seen either!”
Hammerfest is headlined by Five Finger Death Punch and Suicidal Tendencies and will also feature DevilDriver (Spring Exclusive), Iced Earth (UK exclusive), Skindred, Napalm Death , Epica (Only UK Show), Katatonia and many, many more at Hammerfest II in Prestatyn, North Wales on 11-13 March, 2010! You’d be crazy to miss it! Get details and tickets for Hammerfest here!

I love these guys EP, quality tunes on it.
Defo worth getting to Trivium gig early in March for them
i cant belive this, there not even that good. they are the the metal equivilent of lilly allen
Joe, are you surprised? The singer is Bruce Dickinson’s son!! Just another example of “its not what you know, but who you know”.
Slots on tours with bands like Trivium/FFDP and Download/Bloodstock/Hammerfest festival without even an ep for credential is a fine example!
Then, the funniest thing is being flogged their debut ep(which was medioca btw) in this months copy of Metal Hammer in which they are being billed as “the best unsigned band in the UK”!!!
To top that, they claimed to have been “created on the streets of London” !!!
Yea, if you can call a few million pounds worth of house “the streets”
Actually, dyou know what band really deserves a slot on a tour with bands such as Trivium………ANTERIOR!!!
Those boys are some of the most talented musicans around. They are signed to Metal Blade, have a damn fine album to back them up, and their new material is shit hot too!! They easily have the potential to be UK’s eqiuvilent to Children Of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Nevermore etc
Or bands like Malefice, Sylosis, Sacred Mother Tongue, Xerath. They are more than worthy, and would represent the UK scene nicely….
Instead, flash in the pan bands get pushed and ultimately disappear after the association gimmick wears off
I think the Lilly Allen comparison is a bit harsh there joe… I don’t quite like it either (too mainstream metal for me) but fairplay to them..
I have to say though.. going on their myspace just now it was not what I was expecting from Bruce Dickinsons son at all haha
these guys rock. they are goin to go far in metal. and i am excited to see wot they bring at hammerfest!!!! HAMMERFEST \M/ \M/
I haven’t heard them, but from what I’ve heard, singing-wise, Austin takes after his mother. =(
Come on, there was no way Austin was gonna try to take after his dad – and just because his dad is Iron Maiden’s frontman means nothing. If it did, Rise to Remain would’ve had a label the minute they formed. Personally, listening to their EP as we speak, theyre actually really good and whichever label snaps them up is onto a winner in my view. They’ll go far.
Well looking forward to seeing these guys again at Hammerfest and Trvium gig in Pompey. Seen them twice before supporting Death Punch and there awesome.
They were pretty good live with ffdp they had some sweet solos! but they kind of had a enter shitkari look to them, the are much better than those douches
the only song title from the set that i remember was called salvation, i think, and it kicked ass so….yeah
@Ryan, we’ve actually played with Anterior before, classy blokes. In fact, we’ve played with all of the bands you listed, stretching back over a couple of years worth of gigs and DIY tours…maybe you should do your homework if your so sure about our “nepotistic” ways?
Ryan, are you that naive? People in the music industry don’t just sign people because of who their dad is, there needs to be something good to be exploited about them in the first place…Lauren Harris is still managed by her dad and is signed to an indie label…duh…
Maybe Joe and Rryan are just jealous of the awesomeness that are RTR
Ryan, your a tool.
