The Smashing Corgan?

The Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlain has left the band, leaving Billy Corgan as the only original member in the band. Time to call it a day, Billy?

A statement on the official Smashing Pumpkins website reads: “The SMASHING PUMPKINS’ guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group. Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998). Corgan will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring.”

Can Billy really call the band The Smashing Pumpkins when he is the sole remaining member?

I guess he can. Axl Rose is doing it. Dave Mustaine’s been doing it for years. As has Lemmy. And Blackie Lawless too. So yeah, these things happen. Sometimes seems a bit daft when artists carry on as ‘the band’ on their own but what can you do.

Personally I think that it defeats the purpose of calling your band the same name anymore. The biggest screw up of this is Axl Rose still carrying on the GNR name. If your a real fan, You would know that its NOT the original name band anymore. Evey member has a certain way and style of playing that incorporates into the bands sound. Its all a business… The respect of the original members is gone.

Yeah I think Dave Mustaine really kills that argument! lol

Superhans

without corgan the pumpkins wouldn’t have got anywhere, as the key member, he absolutely should carry on

Jimmy Chamberlin's Mullet

People should not forget that on the second Pumpkins album Corgan played everything apart from the drums. Iha and D’arcy were no better than hired hands.

trent reznor…NIN…
