Metal Hammer Readers Poll Best Unsigned Band runners up sign label deal. Read the Metal Hammer article.

From the American publicist today: “Fearless Records (Alesana, A Skylit Drive, Mayday Parade) announces the signing of The Word Alive today. TWA has already shared stages with bands like The Devil Wears Prada, Blessthefall and A Day to Remember allowing them to perform for hundreds of screaming fans.”
“Excited is an understatement,” says singer Telle as he talks about the recent signing to Fearless Records. “We’re all ecstatic to be a part of the Fearless family. We feel that signing with Fearless will open the door to many new opportunities. It will allow us to be on the road so we can share our music with fans across the country and hopefully worldwide.”

Check them out at their MySpace page.

Two months ago the band featured in Metal Hammer:
The Word Alive are about as new as bands get without being unformed yet. You may recognise the phoenix screamcore sextet’s name, if only from wondering who they were in the Metal Hammer readers poll in the last issue, where you voted them the second best unsigned band (after Outcryfire). Just in time for the accolade, the band welcomed new singer Tyler ‘Telle’ Smith previously of In Fear And Faith and Greeley Estates. Telle replaced Craig Mabbitt who went to become the full time singer of Escape The Fate. As the band said on their MySpace page: “We are very proud of Craig and all that he has accomplished in such a short time with them. However, this put us in a position where we had to decide if we ourselves, would want to be a full-time or part-time band.” As Telle tells us: “We don’t have a CD out yet. But we’re working on it!” Their funny acoustic video for ‘World Of Underground Mice’ received over 5,000 plays in one hour when it went live and the buzz is spreading fast. The band are at that nerve-wrackingly exciting stage of being in label talks.
The young upstarts’ sound is a combination of Alexisonfire-esque heartfelt song-writing, A Day To Remember’s aggressive beatdown cool, Underoath’s sonics experiments including synths and keys and the x factor so often missing in bands who sail close to the ‘scene’. The high vocal register won’t be to everyone’s taste, but for people who like AFI and Coheed And Cambria but want something a bit more visceral, packing a bit more punch and with a bit more pace, then head to myspace.com/thewordalive to hear four awesome new tracks. The band will have also just finished recording with their new singer and new music will be available very soon. As for live, the band hope that once a label and management is all set in stone, they will be coming over to the UK at some stage this year.

The Word Alive is:
Tyler “Telle” Smith – Vocals (Formerly of Greely Estates / In Fear and Faith)
Zach Hansen — Guitars and Vocals
Tony Pizzuti — Guitars and Vocals
Nick Urlacher — Bass
Tony Aguilera — Drums
Dusty Riach — Keys/Synth

Watch this space for more info as we get, they’ve already made a fan or two in the office.
