Tony Iommi: “We Had To Do High Voltage For Ronnie And For Ourselves”

In an interview with Classic Rock magazine, Tony Iommi has revealed that the remaining members of Heaven & Hell felt that they had to celebrate the memory of Ronnie James Dio and to help them in their continued grieving process.

“We thought it would be nice to do a final thing for Ronnie,’ says guitarist Iommi. ‘To be honest, we didn’t expect to be playing again. It’s certainly going to be a strange feeling.”

“This is going to be the only one,” adds Iommi. “It would have been good, I suppose, for other people to have seen it, but this is something that we needed to do for ourselves as well.”

Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice will play a very special tribute to one of the greatest voices of all time at this year’s first ever High Voltage festival on July 24th at Victoria Park in London.

Playing the songs that made three generations of metal fans worship the ground Ronnie walked upon, the H&H members will be joined by legendary former Deep Purple and Black Sabbath man Glenn Hughes and Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande, who sings for power metallers Masterplan and has also released his own tribute to Ronnie in the past.

The first ever High Voltage festival will be headlined by classic rock giants ZZ Top and the reformed Emerson, Lake and Palmer with the Metal Hammer stage featuring Down, Black Label Society, Saxon, Cathedral, Clutch, Opeth and many other metal heavyweights!
