no ac/live or pantera 101 proof!!

MCpilch

what the fuck? where is Maiden’s Rock in Rio? and yes, UFO are far too high :)

Errrm…..I don’t see ‘And All That Could Have Been’ by Nine Inch Nails anywhere. What’s that about?

king of heavy metal

glad to see cheap trick on there

Stu Irvine

Machine Head? Sepultura?

Not a big fan of “live” albums to be honest, but these two bands released essential live albums that really capture the essence of what the bands are about live…which is quite an achievement as most live albums fall a bit flat in this respect.

As above no Machine Head? Hellalive is one great album!

Spot on with the number one, though my top 5 would be:

1) Thin Lizzy – Live & Dangerous (yes, I know it wasn’t TECHNICALLY live…)
2) AC/DC – If You Want Blood
3) KISS – Alive! (Also overdubbed in places)
4) Iron Maiden – Live After Death
5) Motorhead – No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith

deekose

any best of list that includes staus quo can and should be imediately dismissed as shit!

Unleashed In The East was only 40th?

Metalbear

No Operation Live Crime……

Rammstein – Volkerball?

S & M wasn’t all that great in my opinion. “All the World’s A Stage” was not Rush’s best live album. Rush In Rio is probably their best. Otherwise, I don’t really have any strong feelings either way on this list. Live and Dangerous was pretty awesome.

Machine Head – Hellalive and Avenged Sevenfold – Live In The LBC should be in there.. admittedly not very high.. but they should deffinitley be in there. Apart from that can’t really moan, killer list :)

KnifeVersusFace

what about the A7X live album?

Why the hell is Led Zeppelin’s How The West Was Won only at 25? It’s at least top 5 and it pisses all over Song Remains The Same.

Destroying Dignity

no dream theater? not impressed. also have to disagree with having metallica ’s&m’ in there, it was a nice try by the band but i don’t think they pulled it off very well

and i’d just like to say iron maiden ‘rock in rio’ should also be in there! not a duff moment on it!

it’s alive, by the ramones????not on the list????

Bee_Gee

Lamb of God? Hmph.

Thin Lizzy and Deep Purples live albums are both amazing, and deserve their place ;)

Violentfluid

maiden, rock in rio
Metallca live shit shudda been number one.
nine inch nails and that could have been is a stormer
pearl jam live at the gorge
misfits evilive
paradise lost the anatomy of mellancholy
testament live in london
all of them class!

no slayer decade of descrution???

Iced Earth ‘Alive in Athens’ should be up there imo. Also, Live shit binge is fuckin killer! Rude awakening was badass to.

UFO is a good choice, decade of aggression and if you want blood should be up there

and faith no more live at brixton

Song Remains the Same is one of my favourite records ever :) No Quarter

I bet beez wasn’t too pleased Whitesnake only got to no. 29 ;)

michael maggs

glad made in japan was in the top 5 (It is the benchmark for all live albums)
instead of two rush ones why not just have different stages

Solictice

what S&M? wattafack? Those dudes need to listen Live Shit, that’s a hell of a live recording… Alot better then S&M imo.

mr dent

good list but NO pantera 101 proof or machinehead or even faith no more!?!?! whats going on here? pffft!

Metallica – Live Shit
Slayer – Decade of Aggression
Megadeth – That one Night
Lamb of God – Killadelphia
Machine Head – Hellalive

All deserve to be in there imo.

Moshtank

SnM at 32…?
thats bullshit
that album is epic!

No Who live at Leeds = Fail.

Rammstein’s Live Aus Berlin and Völkerball really deserve to be in there imo, since Rammstein is one hell of a live band.

Steve Jenner

Oh no no no. Led Zep’ Song Remains The Same ahead of How The West Was Won? No Love You Live by The Stones? Where’s Live Shit Binge & Purge by Metallica?? Queen’s bloated Live at Wembley but no (sensational) On Fire at Milton Keynes or Rocking Montreal?? Rubbish

This is just wrong. No Lamb of God, Sepultura, Slipknot, hell, personally i think Marilyn Manson’s Last Tour on Earth should have featured somewhere. Fuck even David Bowie, The Cure and Nirvana MTV could have been in here if UFO are up so high.

Blind Guardian – Live?
Iced Earth – Alive in Athens?
Pantera – 101 proof?
and I agree with other peoples choices too. This is a shit list

Hey i would have had Saint Vitus Live in there and Pantera 101 proof. Also Widespread Panic – Live in The classic city! What a fucking great album that is.

imyourgodnow

Where the fuck is biohazard?!!!

imyourgodnow

Where the fuck is biohazard?!!!

Opeth – The Roundhouse Tapes
Dream Theatre – Live Scenes from New York

Two that should definately be in there

Moshtank speaks wise words :)
S and M is an awesome album! But fair enough, its the voters who count I guess

The Cruekid

“The folks at gigwise.com have announced their pick for the best live album of all time”.

WTF? Where on earth did they come up with this list?

W.A.S.P – Live..In The Raw
Iron Maiden – Live After Death
King Diamond – In Concert 1987:Abigail
Black sabbath – Live Evil
Nuclear Assault – Live At Hammersmith
Pantera – Official Live: 101 Proof

To name but a few!

Pantera – Live 101 Proof?
Metallica – Live Shit?

Where the fuck are they?

um…hallo-oh.

Scorpions World Wide Live

Slayer – Live Undead

So good you can hear the crowd shouting ’slaaaaaayeeeerrr!’ over the band playing. Short, but epic.

why the hell is world wide live and tokyo tapes by scorpions,

The Roundhouse Tapes? Alive in Athens? Not a bad list, but far from definitive

It’s kind of annoying when they only stick to the really old bands. Sure, they have amazing shows and stuff but so do more modern bands. I watched Foo Fighters’ live DVD the other day (Skin and Bones I think – the one in Hyde Park) and it was amazing. I mean come on, guest appearances by Lemmy, Brian May & Roger Taylor.

PANTERA 101 Proof!!!!!!!!1 that’s number 1!!!!

evil wynn

Why is Led Zep’s How The West Was Won so dam low

Where is Jimi Hendrix

DANTHRAX

Black Sabbath – Live Evil
Glenn Hughes- Live in japan
Sepultura- Live in Sao Paulo
Anthrax- Music Of Mass Destruction
Motorhead- No sleep till Hammersmith

tony medlock

UFO not high enough – best live album ever by miles

dangnabbit

i think, and this is directed at all you metalheadz that want metal albums in there, that this was a poll on Planet Rock radio station, and they dont really play much metal on there, and most of the listners will be into classic rock, hence why thats the list. someone correct me if i’m wrong. but i do agree that some metal live albums are better than whats in that list, but hey ho

The Real Ollie

OZZY + RANDY RHOADS – TRIBUTE! Yeeea

adrian blade

where are: Stratovarius – live visions, Gamma Ray – Alive95, Saxon – The eagle has landed?

Too many live albums by queer bands on the list.

Chris Ward

Live albums tend to be rated on when they appear in a band’s career rather than the quality of the performance. If Maiden’s Rock in Rio had come out in 1985 it would be touted as greater than Live After Death. It is technically a better performance but came relatively late in their career whilst Live After Death came when they were at a peak so it gets the props.
Personally, my favourite live album is Paradise Lost’s The Anatomy of Melancholy, but it would never get in a chart like this as it doesn’t have any historic value or a reputation.

Phil Jones

Even if its rock albums I’d have thought Nirvana and alice in chains should be on their too – although there are some good albums on this list there are so many better metal albums than most of them – I wont repeat the lists from above but I think Hellalive is a great great album capturing the essence of machine head and Slipknot’s live album would be deserving of a place on a list of live metal albums. I didnt even know Dave gilmour had done solo material never mind a live album!

Phil Jones

One other thing – Jethro tull??? Its like the scandel of the grammy award for best hard rock/metal performance going to them instead of metallica all over again!

Jethro Tull – Bursting Out
Pink Floyd – PULSE
KISS – Alive
Lynyrd Skynyrd – One More From The Road

Are all very welcome.
But they could’ve used:

Pantera – 101 proof
Gentle Giant – Playing the Fool

jimmyoll1

BOOOOO!!!!!!! As mentioned:
Opeth-The Roundhouse Tapes

Lamb Of God-Killadelphia

Dream Theater-…..hell any of their live albums will do they just kick ass
They all deserve to be in there

DoomsdayPaul

Where the hell is Pantera 101 PROOF

DoomsdayPaul

Official 101 Proof – Pantera should be here

J Herod

No serious top hard rock list without
Grand Funk Live

TomithyTTomilson

Mucho respecto for the rory gallagher shout. Rory was the best live performer imaginable.

pigfarmer

Alice in Chains – MTV Unplugged.
