Trivium Officially Announce New Drummer!
It would appear that Travis Smith is now permanently and officially out of the band.
Trivium have revealed that drummer Nick Augusto will be replacing the departing Travis Smith permanently.
Vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy commented, “We’re really happy to have our good friend and fellow Floridian Nick Augusto join the Trivium family. Nick’s drumming is very technical and diverse and he brings a real intense energy to the band and we can’t wait for everyone to hear the new song, ‘Shattering the Skies Above,” that we just recorded with Nick. I think it’s the best Trivium recording we’ve ever done; it’s raw, full of energy and I think Nick’s drumming really pushed us to a new level.”

Trivium head our way for a full tour in March with Chimaira, Whitechapel and Rise To Remain.

That sounds all over the place! Yet another band to jump on the blastbeat bandwagon, bit late!
That sounds terrible, maybe will be better wiv rest of track over it.
Travis was always the subpar member of that band. Hopefully Nick will take them up to the next level.
“Travis was always the subpar member of that band. Hopefully Nick will take them up to the next level.”
You’re kidding right? Travis was an awesome drummer.
Ehhh……. OK then.
at the faggot at who said Travis was ’subpar’: I will slit your throat and shit in the wound
@D – seriously, you honestly thought Travis was subpar?
May not have contribute a great deal to the writing process but he can drum with the best of them
I can’t believe Matt is such a douchebag. Travis was such an amazing drummer.
Am I the only one thats wondering where the actual rhythm and beat was in that particular video? Thought not. Wasn’t impressed. Trivium turning into some kind of Jazz/Rock combo? lets hope not eh?
I thought Travis was excellent.
Well the new guys playing seems to have as much groove as a blacksmith :/
Travis had the chops and used them tastefully, this guy sounds all over the place and isn’t really doing anything but making noise…
i’ll pass judgement after the tour, but there’s no way travis was ’subpar’. not the best drummer in the world but certainly no slouch!
Huge Shame… really liiked his playing style. seemed like a cool guy also. Too Early to comment on the new drummer tho, will save my judgement for after the gigs in March
Hes abit hyped really, I wasnt expecting tech, but I was expection prescision and I didn’t see this here. Trivium are shit anyways, go listen to Necrophagist.
Travis wasn’t subpar but he was certainly over-hyped. He was your standard metal drummer who seemed to think having more cymbals than everyone else made him better. You tend to find that drummers with masses and masses of gear don’t know how to use the basics to their full potential nevermind all the extra little gimmicks
Travis sucked. This guy’s not much better. Why do drummers nowadays play like such pussies. I don’t care how fast you are if it sounds like you’re playing with toothpicks. You’re playing metal, play like you have a pair…
@ Divided good point actually, like the guy from system of a down. he has a massive drumkit but doesnt seem to get much use out of it!
john boecklin from devildriver has a pretty minimal kit and slays the fuck out of it, now there’s a proper drummer!
Oh yeah and did no one else spot the trigger on his snare? There’s more than likely one on his kick too. Once you’ve got the midi signals down you can work wonders with ProTools, another reason why most of these “amazing” drummers actually turn out to be quite shit if they can’t hide behind all their toys
And before anyone jumps down my throat about triggers, I know it’s not cheating, I have used them in the past myself but I was commenting that the finished track will sound nothing like this due to a lot of studio wizardry which seems to get used too much in studios nowadays. Thinks start to sound too clinical, you can be tight without triggers, you just need to be a better player. Plus triggers can make people lazy, you need to be able to hit fast and hard not just fast, that’s too easy.
Goddamnit!
Travis is so fucking much better!
As has been said, Travis wasnt the best of metal drummers, but then he did the best job for a band like trivium, all i’ve seen since this guy has been playing, is them playing the songs overly sped up so they dont have the same effect anymore, oh well glad i got to see them with travis still in the band numerous times, i wish him nothing but good fortune in whatever he immerses himself in next.
good! trivium have turned shit and the only slightly good member was travis. now maybe he can do a descent project!
Travis? Sub par? Are you fucking insane. Double bass in songs like Insurrection is wild!
triviums gone down bigtime they hired a fucking idiot for a drummer!
The snare in that really annoyed me.
travis is miiiiiiiiiiiiiiles better than this guy!
technical and diverse matt? seriously? dillinger escape plan are technical and diverse, this guy just seems he cant decide which drum or symbal to hit.
shit happens deal with it!
Trivium are over for me and I don’t care, they’ve been getting on my nerves lately anyway. Travis was the only original member left, if he forms another band I shall check em out. Good luck Travis Im sure you had your reasons
Meh, he was alright, nothing special, nothing horrible either. The video doesn’t work for me, what about you guys?
WOW. You guys haven’t even heard the song. There is probably a reason they took the video down. He is better than Travis for sure, listen to his old band Maruta or watch their latest live videos. He is an awesome drummer. Who cares if Travis was an original member, he left for a reason, he also contributed almost nothing to songwriting anyways.
Everybody stop dissing this guy. Maybe it’s “all over the place” because maybe Trivium’s new record is more varied in it’s song structure? I mean, you haven’t even heard the finished product yet you’re already out to rag on this guy just cause you liked Travis. That’s not fair. If you were a musician in a successful band, would you want people saying you suck before they even hear your music just because they liked the guy before you? Leave him alone, Trivium’s last record was fucking amazing, they themselves are amazing, so calm down and just wait for the record because it’s probably going to be very good regardless of if his style is different than Travis’. And what’s wrong with a new style anyway? It’ll be fresh and new, and Travis has already been on all 4 albums, so it’s not like you haven’t heard him enough. It’s time for something new, so fuck off and let this guy do what he does.
Haha they probably took it down cos they saw all the comments on youtube saying how terrible it was!
It’s nothing to do with Trivium and how they have rapidly gone down hill since their debut. It’s to do with how incredibly sloppy his playing was in that video. Regardless of song structure, timing, bpm etc, Travis wasn’t a god of drums at all but he was fairly solid, this new guy however doesn’t seem like he is. If you’re going to release a preview of your new drummer to show him off and you’re on a bit record label, your career relies on it etc then you would think you’d put something up that showed off his talents not something that made him look like a joke!
