Each to our own! HIM are a great band, Ville is a great frontman but the main focus is taken off the band and purely on Ville, meaning tonnes of girls love him. Lyrically and musically they are very good, more focus should go to the band though

Michael, you’re right, more attention should be paied to the band but reall,y don’t think it’s their fault. The media created Ville. Before 2000 it was just the band HIM. After they broke out with “Join Me” the media, especiall in Germany, suddenly screated “Ville Valo and HIM” as if are two seperate things. I also don’t like it but unfortunately that’s how things work nowadays. If you look at other bands, though with not so iconic frontmen, thigs are pretty much the same – attention falls on one person. It’s inevitable!
Anyway, the guys are terrific musicians, especially the guitar-player Linde, so who knows, may be he’ll be the next super star from HIM..

baloo, not media created Valo, he created his image himself and thats absolutely normal that the frontman gets the most attention, especially so charismatic as Ville is, besides the rest of the guys never guestioned his popularity among fans or media representatives and as far as i remember in a number of interviews they stated that they are really glad that Ville takes up major responsibility for promoting the band which is not easy at all and thus making it possible for the guys to have some private time with their families. Its no doubt that everyone of them is an amazing musician but everyone has their niche in the band the way it should be

To the people who are not into HIM it seems like Ville’s band, solo project or whatever, I’ve heard a lot of shit on the matter. You see how someone has aksed the whole band for an interview and the interviewer still communicates only with Ville and the bass-player Mige.
Don’t misunderstand me, really. I live with the music of HIM already 10 years, I know how the guys feel about Ville’s position and stuff. But media makes it look totally diverted.

baloo, i see your point, the media can fuck up in all possible situations but thats not only due to them that Ville is taken for HIM in general. The man has a wicked charisma so no wonder that the media go for him and Mige is a great and talkative comedian so together they are twice as awesome. Suppose taking an hourlong interview from Linde or Burton for example, the guys would be really freaked out. Let Linde simply play his guitar and he’ll be the happiest, or Burton, or Gas. But it really pisses me off that many people just see Ville’s looks as the main thing and the music as an appendage (and it seems the first motive for f*cking haters).

I love the way Ville happens to put thoughts into words….”the mental boner that doesnt go away” lol pure greatness. I will forever be a fan of HIM and their work. Im sure this is going to be one of their best albums yet….i hope its alot better than Venus Doom….that was kind of a stinker compared to the other albums they’ve come out with.

Also too Bauld…just wanted to say Accept kinda sucks since Balls to the Wall was their ONLY hit….If you want real Heavy Metal go listen to some Metallica.

i’m 28, i teach in a high school, i follow HIM since their first album not for ville,but for the lyrics that i discovered before the music:some of those “belong” to the romantic period according to me.
before criticizing we must have the entire work-life of an artist on our hands, do not be either superficial like a lot of HIM fans (“valo’s beautiful!”) or a priori destroyer like misinformed HIM haters (“theirs isn’t real metal music”).

I started listening to HIM music after I had “discovered” older staff ( Greatest Lovesongs, Borellus….) or Uneasy Listening Vol. 1. and had found out that HIM music is not only about “Join me in dead.” They have been doing great “job” and often it has nothing to do with METAL. A load of people need to have music pigeon-holed, but I do not think this is HIM´s aim. They just want to “do” music and they do it fabulously.

I’m 25 and listen to HIM. I also like Slayer, Metallica, Cradle of Filth, Satyricon and Judas Priest. You cannot deny that they are talented and Linde is an underrated guitarist.See a live show and you will see what I mean. He can even hold his own against Kirk Hammett(Metallica)! Sounds far-fetched but it’s true.

I’ve been listening to HIM since late 2000 or early 2001….I actually have a friend from Finland and she gave me a copy of the Finnish Razorblade Romance, very cool. So yeah, there may be some teenybopper fans just because Ville is good looking, but there are also us older people that dig HIM too. Quit hatin! Haha.
