When Anvil Met Clint Eastwood & Mickey Rourke
Lips and Mickey Rourke hang out and talk about hair nets. No, seriously.
Anvil, who will be gracing the stage of our Metal Hammer Golden God awards, have spoken to the Huffington Post about their recent brushes with the toast of Tinseltown following the success of their movie, ‘Anvil: The Story Of Anvil’.
Huffington Post: Finish this sentence for me: ‘I can’t believe we met….’
Robb Reiner: Clint Eastwood! He didn’t believe that my name was Robb Reiner. I went up to him and said: ‘Hi, I’m Robb Reiner.” And he said, “Cool, man.” But he didn’t believe me. He had this look in his eyes, like ‘Yeah, right.’
Lips: We also met Mickey Rourke. I said : ‘You wore a hair net for one scene in your movie, I wore a hair net for 8 years! (In the documentary Lips works delivering food to school cafeterias.) Then Robb goes, “Tell me, did you die at the end of The Wrestler? and he goes, ‘I hope so.’

When I got my first job (back in 1988) I started spending all my cash on records. I bought this compilation from a 2nd hand place, it was a double album and it had stuff like Di’Anno’s Battlezone, Rogue Male, Madam X, Slade, King Diamond and Witch Fynder on it. Anvil was on there too and I ended up buying their Metal On Metal album on a crappy old cassette tape that got chewed after about 10 plays. Soon got the actual vinyl record and it’s still in my collection back at my Mum’s place, though a bit worse for wear. Anvil are great and I’m really glad that people are starting to take some notice of them but I’m very curious to see how many bandwagon jumpers leave them high and dry after the novelty wears off. Be honest Metal Hammer, would you have given the guys the time of day if the movie had never come out? Everyone loves an underdog but I don’t think Robb and Lips want people to like them out of pity, they want people to dig Anvil for their music. And if the truth be told Anvil DID bring out some pretty mediocre records in the 90’s. I’ve heard there’s a new album out some time later this year/early next year. I’m hoping the band back it up and bring out an album that they can stick up everyones arses and say “we told you so”!!
Yeah that’s my fear also. They are such down to earth nice guys. I sure hope their popularity doesn’t wear off before they have time to fully enjoy their new found (and well deserved) fame. WTG GUYS FOR STICKING IT OUT!!!
