zakkwylde_90It seems as though Zakk Wylde is yet to receive a phone call from Ozzy Osbourne over the interview in which it seemed the Double O had fired Wylde. Hear that infamous interview on the latest Metal Hammer podcast.

Zakk Wylde has said the following to Oregon’s 101.5 KFLY (The following transcript comes courtesy of Blabbermouth):

“I’ve gotta be honest with you. The boss (Ozzy) hasn’t even given me a phone call, so I mean… I’m just like… I don’t know what’s going on over there. Are we doing this thing or are we not doing it? When I keep getting asked these questions, I go, ‘Call the boss. When he tells you, then he can call me back.’ I mean, it’s just like… I love you, man. Whatever you want, that’s cool. But if we’re doing this, let’s do it, and let’s whoop some ass. But if you don’t wanna do it, then just give me a heads-up. Call me, man. Tell me what the hell’s going on. I don’t know what the hell’s going on over there.

“We’re working on the new record, we’ll be back in September, we’ll work on finishing the record. And then we’re supposed to do the tour. I mean, it’s like, dude, you don’t wanna play with me anymore? Fine. Play with whoever the hell you wanna play with. I couldn’t give a rat’s ass. Like I’m gonna get all jealous or whatever. But you know what?! Man up and give me a phone call and tell me what the hell’s going on. You finished with me? Cool.

“I mean, it’s just like… Everything’s sounding like Black Label? [Referring to Ozzy's claim in a recent interview that his solo albums were beginning to sound like Black Label Society due to Wylde's involvement with both projects — Ed.] I guess everything sounded like Black Label when I first started with you, when I was 19. It was still the same guy; I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Listen to the interview in which Ozzy suggested he and Zakk would part company on the latest Metal Hammer Podcast.

I’ve got to agree with ozzy on the albums sounding like black label… as time has went on black label have grown massively and developed a sound that is particular to them… the black rain album just sounded like a continuation of that.

Think it may be time for Ozzy to go in a different direction. And if Wylde can’t see the similarities between black rain and Shot to hell, he’s deluding himself.

Time for Ozzy to get his sound back and for Wylde to go truly on his own, without the Ozzy safety net.

MAD SPANNER

I think ozzy needs to get his priorities straight. like someone else said, ozzy needs zakk more than zakk needs ozzy.

BackWithAVengeance

Ozzy needs to call the guy and come clean and let him know if he`s using the guy on his record or not.

not cool to fuck people about, and especially in the press.

bad move

yeah, you don’t fuck about one of the world’s best guitarists through the press, it doesn’t matter who you are.

The problem with Ozzy (who I’ve always loved in musical terms) is that he keeps getting stuck into other projects with his wife, which take him away from his own music.

Presenting TV show this, reality that. Where’s your credibility man? Go back to being the Godfather of Rock, the Prince of Darkness, not the Dandy of TV!!

She-who-we-must-not-name should go and fuck herself!!

I’ve said it before, but I think it’s time to end this relationship (music wise).
Maybe it’s time for Ozzy to go out and look for another bright young spark to get his fire burning; and maybe even making him realise she’s killing what’s left of his career!!

CowgirlFromHell

That’s really unfair of Ozzy, Zakk’s been playing for him since 1988, he should at least have the decency to tell Zakk whether he’s playing or not.

ozzy is a cunt simple as
if he gets rid of zakk then fuck that i wont even download his album for free wont waste the space, he always fucks up things cus of his stupid ugly wife i mean really wtf ring him let him no dont talk shit bls is better than ozzy ever has been he fucked bs up and now heaven and hell is fucking class, he is a dick needs to grow the fuck up

zakk kicks arse, ozzy does need to man up and make a decent record, not release some shit with kelly o lol

I didn’t know there was a difference. Zakk Wylde has always sounded like a poor-man’s Ozzy/Black Sabbath wannabe anyway. Cliche, dated metal by numbers.

Dion Abbott

Can anyone actually what ozzy says anyway? LOL, what difference does a phone call make, Ozzy will just stutter and stammer incoherently.

On another note, people whine Metallica are sell outs, yet Ozzy had a reality show, go figure.

ozzy made zakk, he gave him a chance to shine never forget

BLS sound nothing like Ozzy. Their albums have more ballads on them.

Fuck him off, Zakk. Let him get on with doing butter commercials on TV and butchering classic Sabbath songs with his fat-pig of a daughter. He’s not going to miss you, I’m sure the bitch from hell that is his wife has got something just as soul destroying but sure-as-fuck a money-making project lined up.

“Sharooooon!!!” Jesus, what a joke he’s become…

Love ya Ozzy, but your family are arseholes.

I heard that Gus G is going to be Ozzy’s new guitarist! Seriously, is that true?! I really hope not because I adore Firewind and that would possibly get in Firewind’s way >.< Gus G is an amazing guitarist.

Ozzy Osbourne is a true metal legend! I’ve been a huge fan for years and own all of his albums (solo and Black Sabbath). This current situation with Zakk Wylde is very regrettable. While I can’t deny the strong similarities between Ozzy’s Black Rain and the last two Black Label Society records from Zakk (Mafia and Shot To Hell), I still believe there’s plenty of life left in this musical partnership. Wylde is one of the very best metal guitarists in the world today and I would struggle to find fault with any of his work, whether it be with Ozzy, BLS, solo or Pride & Glory. As much as I’ve enjoyed their union over the years, the logical part of me thinks that if The Oz Man feels that it’s time to move on, with a new guitar player and an updated sound, that’s his call. If he picks the right person, like he always has in the past (as in a upcoming, young virtuoso who will morph into an innovative star of the future), it could make for a very interesting album/tour. However, if the reports that Zakk hasn’t even heard from Ozzy are true, I’m disgusted… but, sadly, not surprised. Zakk has given Osbourne over 20 years of dedication and hard work so deserves much better! Sometimes hard decisions have to be made for the progression of a band’s/artist’s music (much like with Metallica parting ways with longtime producer/friend Bob Rock before Death Magnetic) and they result in tricky conversations which nobody will ever like… but to ‘fire’ a man who has worked so closely with you for such a great amount of time (longer than a lot of marriages) in a magazine interview is just lower than low! Unfortunately, this seems to be the way that a lot of rock/metal stars who started out in the 70’s and 80’s act. They chop and change band members, regardless of loyalties and decency, to ensure they get to play/record with the elite musicians/writers of the day in order to stay ‘fresh’ and boost their sales/profits. The amount of ‘journey-men’ who had short stints with big metal bands in the 80’s only to be replaced after one album/tour by the band ‘leaders’/managers, then move on to another band to repeat the process again, is staggering! Amongst many others, Tony Iommi (before getting his act together with the 1997 classic line-up Sabbath reunion and now, the magnificant Heaven & Hell) was guilty of it in the late 80’s/early 90’s (poor old Tony Martin was messed around massively). However, the worst offender in my view, at least throughout the 80’s, was Ozzy! The revolving door approach in his band over the years has been shocking. There are way too many wronged musicians to list here but one specific example comes to mind: the way he/his management (Sharon) treated original bass player Bob Daisley (who actually wrote a large amount of Ozzy’s material in the early days) and drummer Lee Kerslake is testament to the cold/ruthless attitude which has always been present in the Osbourne band! I guess Zakk is lucky he’s lasted this long because nobody else has! Would even the awesome Randy Rhoads have been safe from the chop as the years went by, if he’d lived rather than tragically dying in 1982? I love Ozzy’s music (some of the albums he’s performed on feature in my all time favourites list) but it occurs to me that he has always been ‘propped up’ by talented others… Iommi, Rhoads, Jake E. Lee and Zakk musically, Geezer Butler, Bob Daisley. John Purdell and even Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister (amongst others) lyrically… and rarely seems to show them any decent gratitude… apart from his wife for her management skills, obviously! This fact, along with the Black Sabbath copyright lawsuit (in addition to previous others with Daisley, Kerslake, even short-lived bassist Phil Soussan) and the awful television appearances, is starting to gradually dim my view of my one time ‘hero’. I know that most people blame Sharon and (from what we’ve seen of her on TV and read in magazines/books over the years… shit in a box anyone?) they’re probably right… but surely if Ozzy REALLY disagreed with her he’d have the guts to speak up? He may be portrayed to the non-metal loving public as a bumbling TV idiot on The Osbournes and the like, but The Prince Of Darkness MUST have more about him in real life! I know Sharon seems like a tough/no nonsense lady but she is his wife/the mother of his children, not just his manager! I’m not ashamed to admit (ok, maybe a little) that my girlfriend can be quite scary when she’s in a mood too, but I’d never sit back and let her treat my friends and co-workers like that if I genuinely thought she was in the wrong. Ozzy’s complicity, whether he echos the sentiment or not, means that he’s just as responsible for these situations as Sharon! I hope that, whether Zakk stays or goes, Ozzy and Sharon do the decent thing by actually sitting down with Wylde to discuss the situation face to face. Treat him with the respect he is entitled to, let him know either way and show some appreciation for what he’s done over the last 20 years!

andy bickerdike

ozzys had his day,hes just become a cartoon character, his wife has destroyed any credability he had left, get on with it zakk.you deserve better

JOSHUAPOCALYPSE

Whoever thinks ozzy needs zakk more than zakk needs ozzy is stupid. zakk fuckin rules but ozzy is on a different level.

ozzy has managed to go from getting hired to sing in black sabbath just because he was the only guy with a P.A. to being the guy that makes guitarists legendary.

you think randy would have been as big of a deal if he only played with quiet riot???

I think it might be time for ozzy to sit with zakk and figure out if zakk can play 2 different styles. can he seperate BLS riffs from ozzy riffs.

maybe tune back to standard for ozzy stuff instead of playing the drop D riffs that sound like a continuation of a BLS song.

and if zakk cant do that then ill be more than happy to fill his spot.

tallicahead

zakk should leave n tour wit bls ozzy should get kirk from crowbar, down,KoS hes cool as fk n can play like a mofo
