One of the most legendary metal bands of all time will reunite to headline the Sunday of Download’s 10th Anniversary with the original lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward – and they’ll be putting out a brand new album!

We speculated, we hoped, we prayed and then we dared to believe – and now we can officially confirm that Black Sabbath are back, and they will headline the Sunday of Download 2012!

The original lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward held a press conference in LA earlier today to confirm that they have reunited, will be recording a brand new studio album and will return to Donington for the first time since 2005 as a UK festival exclusive, joining Saturday headliners Metallica, who were confirmed yesterday and will be playing their seminal, self-titled ‘Black Album’ in full!

“The reunion of the original line up of Black Sabbath has been one of the most talked about stories of the year,” says Live Nation’s Andy Copping. “I am thrilled that the band will return to Donington Park next year to help us mark 10 years of the Download Festival.”

Download’s 10th Anniversary will take place at Donington Park from June 8-10 2012. Weekend tickets for Download 2012 go on general sale 9am Friday November 18 from www.downloadfestival.co.uk – subject to availability. Weekend ticket prices for Download 2012 will remain the same as the prices for Download 2011 until midday, Monday January 30, 2012, when all ticket types will go off sale.

All tickets will go back on sale at 5pm Monday January 30, 2012 with Weekend tickets increased to 2012 prices, so you best grab yourself a ticket while the offer lasts!

Vodafone customers can buy tickets 48 hours before they go on general sale: from 9am on Wednesday 16 November 2011 at www.vodafone.co.uk/vip

Download RIP ticket packages are on sale now and can be purchased via www.livenationexperience.co.uk or on 0207 009 3484.

just……..oh…..yep, just ejaculated

No other festival will compare!!!

and next Maiden please! Then we’d have all 3 of the top headliners from the past 10 years (in my opinion) – exciting news indeed!

the mark of zur-en-arrh

again? at Download festival……. again? Sonisphere has already won the 2012 battle of the festivals without doing a damn thing.

king of heavy metal

seems that andy copping has learnt after years of fucking everyone around that he needed some decent headliners

Moonio79

MachineHead will be the Friday headliners

Well played, Download.

Also;

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SABBATH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

So they have the originators of the genre, and the biggest metal band ever. How about they round it out by giving someone a shot at their first festival headline slot by booking Machine Head?

rockin'rob

the mark of zur-en-arrh, you sure you’re a metal fan? You moaned about Metallica and now about Black Sabbath… Enjoy Sonisphere and let us know how Paramore were.

Really excited, two proper, Heavy, ‘Kin, Metal bands already. Anyone negative about this just what the fuck is wrong with you. Its Donington, its Metal. Its Ozzy, Tony RiffLord Iommi, Geezer and Bill. And Metallica.
great start.

Michael

the mark of zur-en-arrh, what exactly do you mean by ‘again’? Metallica last played in 2006 and Sabbath in 2005… It’s hard to accuse of them of ‘repeat’ headliners when its been that long..
.

now just for priest or maiden for the last day, maybe both ;)

Definately looking like the best lineup in ages (2010 was TOP) gna trump the other fests this year. Machine Head definately the friday headliners :) this makes me happy

Download isn’t fucking around this year, guess Sonisphere handing them their ass last year lit a fire under them.

Iron Maiden for sure will headliners od SONI 2012! But headlining DOWNLOAD after 2007 slot, would be great bill for 2012!!! Maybe today they announce somethin’

Metallica who?

This is amazing, never thought the oppertunity to see them play would ever come up. Already said no interest in Metallica but this is something that is once in a lifetime.

SHARON!!!!!

wot the fuck is wrong with some of you? You winge about sabbath annd you piss n wine bout Metallica. You have the 2 most influential and important metal bands of all time but you still find fault. like someone already said . Enjoy sonisphere. Jesus …the chillis are legendary but if as rumoured the shit foo fighters are there then its a no no

Do we know when the new album will be out? In time for Download?

Scotchmik
