22 Reasons Why Michael Jackson Rocked
King Of Pop, sure. But he still rocked! And here’s why…
.
.
.
.
1) Getting Eddie Van Halen to solo on ‘Beat It’

2) Getting Slash to play on ‘Give In To Me’…
3) …and ‘Black Or White’…
4) …and ‘DS’.
5) Using Vincent Price for the intro of Thriller (a la Alice Cooper).
6) The 15 minute horror-themed Thriller video.
7) Using Jennifer Batten as his tour guitarist.
8 ) The fretless bass lick on ‘Speed Demon’
9) He was inducted into the Rock N roll Hall Of Fame…
10) …twice.
11) He grabbed his nuts.
<12) Faces like this…
13) …and this
14) He married Elvis’ daughter…
15) …and dated Brooke Shields.
16) He threw the horns.
17) He loved Queen (Brian May says it was MJ’s idea to release ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ as a single)

18) He co-wrote a horror movie called ‘Ghosts’ with Stephen King.

19) He always looked like he was wearing corpse paint.
20) He inspired some wicked covers (Alien Ant Farm’s ‘Smooth Criminal’).
21) Having Carlos Santana on ‘Whatever Happens’.
22) That jacket.

That solo on beat it is pretty bad ass
All true.
the speed demon bass is really really good even now.
guy had his issues but musically pretty fukin good, didn`t take to his later stuff but highly talented without a doubt.
I almost cried when i got a message saying he had died. he was awesome no doubt about it. and the guitar solo for beat it is awesome, love playing it on guitar hero! \m/
For the sake of balance… NOT BOVVERED!! To some he will be remembered as a talented musician. To others he will be remembered as a very dodgy man
The first dude to use zombies in a music video (i stand to be corrected)
Excellent singer & dancer. RIP!
I’m afraid I’ll have to draw your attention to point number 20 – nothing Alien Ant Farm did was wicked (in that sense of the word), especially their cover of Smooth Criminal.
All true points.
He may have had his issues, tons of plastic surgery, and the pressure of doing over a month’s worth of dates in London, but he truly did rock.
R.I.P
Seriously dude, this is so lame…KING OF POP not rock and this is suppose to be Metal Hammer, not Pop Hammer or Rock Hammer…
What does Michael Jackson sing in the bath?
“I’m forever blowing bubbles!”
Klunk: he may well have been the King Of Pop, and had his share of attention in the media, but the majority of peopel regard him as a musical legend.
Just because thsi is Metla Hammer, doesn’t mean it HAS to cover JUST metal.
It PRIMARILY covers said genre, but often covers non-metal but mainly rock or punk like artists or bands.
What an asshole you are Klunk. Bet youre an emo kid who hasnt a clue about music. Rest in peace the King of Pop.
To Klunk. This is different. MJ’s passing has impacted the entire music and media industry. This isn’t Metal Hammer changing it’s stance, this is just another music magazine paying tribute to a great musical talent and an amazing performer. In other words, you’re wrong. Fuck off.
Jacko aint dead, he’s with Elvis!
But yeah, i was listening to ‘Beat It’ earlier…how much does that song wana rock?
(love the ‘horn throwing’ number 16)
R.I.P Gone But will never be Forgotten.
R . I . P
R.I.P Jacko
You’ve missed Steve Stevens playing guitar on a song of his. When it came to picking guitarists, Jackson had pretty immpeccable taste.
Nice one Hammer, very cool of you to give this a mention. A total professional showman who’s concerts probably had more in common with rock and metal than it did with pop music.
r.i.p Michael
Ok
missing out Steve Lukather writing and performing, not just underrated, but one of the best guitarists and importantly-MUSICIANS EVER. dont do it.
Its HIGHLY debatable whether Van Halen actually did the solo on Beat It, its considered by the public to have been Van Halen, but apparently this isnt the case…..Lukather ftw
but yeah, MJ certainly ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Legend.
RIP
Not a fan of the man, think he had… issues.
However, he was musically a legend and I’m sure an influence on even the music we all love. So for that, I guess I have to grudgingly thank him and say Rest In Peace.
Any day a musician dies is a sad day…
Number 20 is wrong. That cover version sucked.
RIP Jacko.
Indeed Skumbo; Steve Stevens ripped on Dirty Diana.
(And EVH’s solo on Beat It may be the best one-take guitar solo ever recorded)
Kudos to MH for the tribute!
He was Loved by many, and will be loved by many, His name will be known by billions for the next coming decades and era’s.
at first I couldn’t believe it, than i realized it’s true, h’s not here anymore the way we were having him here.
but he will never really leave us, when we hear his songs, and remember him through dance moves in which he a little it will say hello, when we’re watching a concert of other mucisians.
Michael, I’ve never seen your concerts, Have no single cd or Vinyl of you, I never have ben a fan, but I will miss you together with the rest of the world,
RIP Michael,
Number one is wrong. Eddie Van Halen is about as “metal” as Load.
I may be a bit of a music nazi when it comes to metal but I remember buying MJ’s Bad and Maidens Powerslave on the same day and enjoying them both. Even the most die of corpse paint wearing death heads have at least one Jacko song somewhere in the collection.
RIP
RIP to a true musical genius.
With the exception of his lifestyle, his talent was unsurpassed!!
His roll call of guitarists was phenomenal and ‘Beat It’ not only had one of the greatest solos ever, but is one of the greatest songs ever too!!
Reason #23 – He had Steve Stevens play guitar on the song Dirty Diana
Okay, it’s never nice to see someone die but to be honest I never liked his music nor the way he conducted his personal life. The amount of TV coverage has been quite frankly ridiculous and I suspect the newspapers and record shops will cash in on his death. At least it’ll get Jordan off of the front page of the tabloids…………
Yeah I can just see another ‘Best Of’ or other similairly titled Michael Jackon retrospective album or CD collection coming out in the not too distant future.
Or his 3 classic albums get re-released.
Or his whole discography gets re-released.
Or indeed all of the above…
Clearly the guy was a legend, shame the media tried to destroy him (with some success) Anyone who cannot see his influence across musical genres, including rock and metal, does not understand how music works end of.
Just thought of another one for the list: that duet he did with Mick Jagger on “State Of Shock”. I think it was on a Jacksons album and not an MJ album. Very cool song, I had the 7″ single when I was a kid.
Amen!
No matter whether your into metal… or pop or R n B… EVERYONE who knows anything about music will appreciate Micheal Jackson.
RIP
RIP Michael Jackson 1958-2009
he was a big influence to me when i was young you just never realise that until someone that left a musical legacy like michael jackson goes so suddenly R.I.P.
fuck michael jackson’s nose
I defy any metal fan to listen to ‘Dirty Diana’ and not appreciate that song. The guitar work is awesome.
Same goes for ‘Beat It’ (obviously) and ‘Give In To Me’; also the cover of The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’ is also pretty amazing and everyone should give it a listen.
I was brought up on a mix of Sabbath, Maiden, Cooper and Metallica and this is still my poison of choice but I have always loved Sinatra and Michael Jackson.
Very much like Sinatra, I always thought respect for MJ transcended genre boundaries and I can’t believe the negativity in this thread.
Given that the guy has just died if you have nothing positive to say, surely better to keep your comments to yourself and let those who wish to pay their respects in this thread do so without having to read your bile [rant over].
The world has lost a truly wonderful showman.
RIP Michael – thank you for the memories.
He was one of a kind. A bonafide musical genius. RIP Michael.
MJ will be sincerely missed by all. It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of rap, hiphop, pop, rock or metal; That man had an energy/personality/ genius that many have admired.
He moonwalked his way up and is rocking that world above
Rest in Peace Michael Jackson
Metal Hammer I applaud you for mentioning Michael and recognizing him.
Klunk: You are an idiot.
finally the guy is out of his misery. i used to be a fan as a kid, but he just too weird for my taste. he screwed his own life up. can’t feel sorry for him.
Say what you want about the guy, but his music will live on forever.
he will still be around for a while. plastics not bio-degradable, is it?
king of pop!!!
he was a great guy
killer dancer and singer
thanx michael for everything.
we will always remember you.
your home now.
R.I.P.
*devil horns up*
x
your right. and give it up, black or white, thriller and bad all were very high powerd rock songs!
Hardcore metal fan but besides that i listen MJ. Whether u were a metal/rock/rnb fan this guy connected the genres! how u can not appreciate the guitar work on beat it, give in to me, dirty diana, d.s, morphine, black or white? Excellent taste in music, fantastic showman!
The concerts were as a guy previously above said more metal and rock than pop!
Whoever says MJ is not worth it, he doesn’t know shit about music. This was the day that a part of music died and will never be replaced!
Reason 23) guitar work on dirty diana
24) headbanging in concerts!?
25) long hair!
I am apparently not very metal then, seeing as basically all I’ve listened to for the last three weeks is the Bad album.
But hey, despite Liberian Girl being the second biggest pile of shit after The Girl Is Mine, Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal and the sheer amazing guitar work that is Dirty Diana (who said only Motley Crue can write songs about groupies?) well make it actually the best album ever.
